To get a nice square corner when roll hemming on, the serger, on lightweight fabrics such as chiffon, place a small piece of soluble stabilizer under the corner. This supports the fabric and stops it being taken down into the needle plate. The result is a better finish on the corner and the stabilizer can be washed away later.
