The formal and informal feedback received was outstanding in terms of the high value and worthiness of this initiative. Some comments captured were:-

Thank you for such an amazing opportunity.

The teachers were perfect examples of model teachers.

I would love the opportunity to come back and to volunteer my time.

A fantastic experience.

I can now appreciate how to make a difference.

Health Advice

We have been advised of cases of Croup and Hand foot and Mouth within the school. If your child presents

with any of the symptoms of these illnesses, please seek medical attention and follow medical advice.

Croupe – Caused by a virus infection, characterised by a harsh, barking cough and a noisy sound when

breathing in. Infectious period – shortly before the onset of symptoms and during the active phase of the

disease. Exclusion Period – the child should stay at home until they are feeling well.

Hand Foot and Mouth – Mild viral illness, symptoms include a slight fever, loss of appetite, blisters in the

mouth and on hands and feet (a sore mouth for a few days before the blisters appear). It is spread through

contact with the fluid in the blisters, this is most likely to occur when the virus becomes airborne during

coughing, singing, talking etc, contact with faeces can also spread the infection. Exclusion period – Until all

blisters have dried.

Representative Sport & Trials

It is an exciting week of sporting representation for WSPS athletes this week.

We wish Livie Virtue and Harry Leo all the best as they travel to the Sydney International Aquatic Centre for

the PSSA State Diving and Swimming Championships.

Trials for the Crossroads Zone touch football team take place this Friday. Nine of our touch footballers (girls

& boys) will vie for places in this traditionally strong squad.

The weather has continued to hamper lunchtime trials for school sports teams. Students have been

extremely patient and understanding of the adverse circumstances over the past few weeks. In addition to

the cross country, it is hoped to hold trials this week for Junior Soccer, Senior Basketball and Senior Touch

football. All Year 3-6 students interested in trialling for representative sport teams should listen at assembly

and check our school noticeboards regularly for information about trials.

Values in Action

In this last part of the term, we have been continuing to talk in our assemblies about how important our

current value ‘Respect’ is in building a strong community. This links really well with the main values

contained in Harmony Day, held nationally on 21 March, as it has each year since 1999. It coincides with

the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. In Australia, it is designed

especially with our cultural diversity in mind. It celebrates the essential Australian values of ‘Fair Go’ and

respect for all. This means we judge people by who they are and by what they do. We try not to judge

people by their ethnic or religious background, by how they dress, what they eat or how they live their lives

within the law. Indeed, we celebrate these differences because Australia’s past history is built on

difference, even its Indigenous past and certainly its post-colonial past. Similarly, our greatest hope for a

happy and harmonious future is that we respect and accept all people as they are, all those who call

Australia home. The message of Harmony Day is: Everyone Belongs! Let’s all make a special effort to

ensure that this is how we are speaking of and dealing with all our fellow Australians and how we as

parents and teachers model to our children and students the respect and acceptance that is needed for a

harmonious Australia.

Read our Tallong from last week for what we did in our school for Harmony Day. – Mrs Lovat

‘To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater.’ – Bono

LIBRARY NEWS

Holidays are a great time for us all to catch up on reading! The local public libraries are a great place to visit, and borrow from, over the holiday break.

Our school library allows students to borrow books over the short holiday periods, so don’t forget your library bags this week so that you can keep reading!

Could you take the time in your holiday break to help your children locate any overdue library books please? These can be popped into their school bags ready for a fresh start next term.

Happy Easter & Happy reading!
