2018 "The Year of Prayer" "Do not worry about anything, but in

everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your

requests be made known to God." Philippians 4:6

*Congregational response: Bold print

We Gather Near The Old Church Building:

P: Brothers and sisters in Christ: Let us give thanks for this

place, for it is our roots and heritage, the place first dedicated

for the ministry of God's Word and Holy Sacrament as Emanuel

Lutheran Church.

A: Moses said to the Lord: "If your presence does not go with us,

do not send us up from here. How will anyone know that you

are pleased with me and with your people unless you go with

us? What else will distinguish me and your people from all the

other people on the face of the earth?"

P: The Lord replied: "My presence will go with you, and I will give

you rest." (Exodus 33:14-15)

As We Walk We Sing Together:

"Onward, Christian Soldiers" Brass ensemble

1. Onward, Christian soldiers! Marching as to war, with the cross

of Jesus going on before. Christ, the royal Master, leads against

the foe; forward into battle, see His banners go! Onward,

going on before.

"We Are Marching in the Light" (Siyahamba)

We are marching in the light of God, we are marching in the light

of God. We are marching in the light of God,

we are marching in the light of God.

We are marching, (marching, we are marching, marching,)

we are marching in the light of God.

We are marching, (marching, we are marching, marching,)

we are marching in the light of God.

We Gather Outside The Main Doors:

We rededicate this House of Worship with the liturgy and prayers

used 100 years ago:

P: O Lord, direct us in all our doings with Thy most gracious favor,

and further us with Thy continual help; that in all our works,

begun, continued and ended in Thee, we may glorify Thy holy

name, through Jesus Christ our lord. Amen.

A: Make a joyful noise unto the Lord, all ye lands. Serve the Lord

with gladness:

C: Come before His presence with singing. Know ye that the

Lord, He is God:

5

A: It is He that hath made us, and not we ourselves: we are His

people, and the sheep of His pasture.

C: Enter into His gates with Thanksgiving, and into His

courts with praise; be thankful unto Him and bless His

name.

P: For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth

endureth to all generations. (Psalm 100)

As We Process Into The Sanctuary We Sing:

"Open Now Thy Gates of Beauty" #533

1 Open now thy gates of beauty, Zion, let me enter there, where my

soul in joyful duty waits for God who answers prayer. Oh, how

blessed is this place, filled with solace, light, and grace!

2 Gracious God, I come before thee; come thou also unto me; where

we find thee and adore thee, there a heav'n on earth must be. To

my heart, oh, enter thou, let it be thy temple now!

3 Here thy praise is gladly chanted, here thy seed is duly sown; let

my soul, where it is planted, bring forth precious sheaves alone, so

that all I hear may be fruitful unto life in me.

4 Thou my faith increase and quicken, let me keep thy gift divine;

howsoe'er temptations thicken, may thy word still o'er me shine as

my guiding star through life, as my comfort in all strife.

5 Speak, O God, and I will hear thee, let thy will be done indeed;

may I undisturbed draw near thee while thou dost thy people feed.

Here of life the fountain flows; here is balm for all our woes.

P: How amiable are Thy tabernacles, O Lord of hosts. For a day

in Thy courts is better than a thousand. Lift up your heads O ye

gates; even lift them up, ye everlasting doors; and the King of

glory shall come in. Who is the King of Glory? The Lord of hosts,

He is the King of Glory.

Confession and Forgiveness

P: Blessed be the ☩ holy Trinity, the one who fashions us, the one

who heals us, the one who reforms us again and again.

L: Amen.

P: Let us confess our sin, calling for God's transforming power.

*Silence for reflection and self-examination.

P: Source of all life,

C: we confess that we have not allowed your grace to set us

free. We fear that we are not good enough. We hear your

word of love freely given to us, yet we expect others to earn it.

We turn the church inward, rather than moving it outward.

Forgive us. Stir us. Reform us to be a church powered by

love, willing to speak for what is right, act for what is just, and

seek the healing of your whole creation. Amen.

P: God hears our cry and sends the Spirit to change us and to

empower our lives in the world. Our sins are forgiven, ☩ God’s

Prayer of The Day

A: Gracious God, throughout the ages you transform sickness

into health and death into life. Open us to the power of your

presence, and make us a people ready to proclaim your promises

to the whole world, through Jesus Christ, our healer and Lord.

Anthem "The Church's One Foundation" Emanuel Choir*

*Congregation will join choir when directed.

♪ The Church’s one foundation is Jesus Christ, her Lord. She is His

new creation by water and the word. From heav’n He came and

sought her to be His holy bride. With His own blood He bought

her, and for her life He died.

First Lesson Isaiah 35:4-7a 4Say to those who are of a fearful heart, “Be strong, do not fear!

Here is your God. He will come with vengeance, with terrible

recompense. He will come and save you.” 5Then the eyes of the

blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; 6then the

lame shall leap like a deer, and the tongue of the speechless sing for

joy. For waters shall break forth in the wilderness, and streams in

the desert; 7athe burning sand shall become a pool, and the thirsty

ground springs of water.

The word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Psalm 146

L: Hallelujah! Praise the LORD, O my soul!

C: I will praise the LORD as long as I live; I will sing praises to

my God while I have my being.

L: Put not your trust in rulers, in mortals in whom there is no help.

C: When they breathe their last, they return to earth, and in that

day their thoughts perish.

L: Happy are they who have the God of Jacob for their help,

whose hope is in the LORD their God;

C: who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that is in them;

who keeps promises forever;

L: who gives justice to those who are oppressed, and food to those

who hunger. The LORD sets the captive free.

C: The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; the LORD lifts up those

who are bowed down; the LORD loves the righteous.

L: The LORD cares for the stranger; the LORD sustains the orphan

and widow, but frustrates the way of the wicked.

C: The LORD shall reign forever, your God, O Zion,

throughout all generations. Hallelujah! Second Lesson James 2:1-10 [11-13] 14-17 1My brothers and sisters, do you with your acts of favoritism really

believe in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ? 2For if a person with gold

rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and if a poor

person in dirty clothes also comes in, 3and if you take notice of the

one wearing the fine clothes and say, “Have a seat here, please,”

while to the one who is poor you say, “Stand there,” or, “Sit at my

feet,” 4have you not made distinctions among yourselves, and

become judges with evil thoughts? 5Listen, my beloved brothers and

sisters. Has not God chosen the poor in the world to be rich in faith

and to be heirs of the kingdom that he has promised to those who

love him? 6But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who

oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into court? 7Is it not they

who blaspheme the excellent name that was invoked over you? 8You

do well if you really fulfill the royal law according to the scripture,

“You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 9But if you show

partiality, you commit sin and are convicted by the law as

Page 12: EMANUEL LUTHERAN C A congregation of the Evangelical ...emanuellutheran.net/media/2016/03/Anniversary-Sunday-Bulletin-.pdf · A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in

12

transgressors. 10For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one

point has become accountable for all of it. [11For the one who said,

“You shall not commit adultery,” also said, “You shall not murder.”

Now if you do not commit adultery but if you murder, you have

become a transgressor of the law. 12So speak and so act as those who

are to be judged by the law of liberty. 13For judgment will be

without mercy to anyone who has shown no mercy; mercy triumphs

over judgment.] 14What good is it, my brothers and sisters, if you

say you have faith but do not have works? Can faith save you? 15If a

brother or sister is naked and lacks daily food, 16and one of you says

to them, “Go in peace; keep warm and eat your fill,” and yet you do

not supply their bodily needs, what is the good of that? 17So faith by

itself, if it has no works, is dead.

The Holy Gospel Mark 7:24-37

Gospel Acclamation “Alleluia" Page 151

The Holy Gospel according to St. Mark the 7th chapter.

Glory to you, O Lord. 24From there he set out and went away to the region of Tyre.

He entered a house and did not want anyone to know he was there.

Yet he could not escape notice, 25but a woman whose little daughter

had an unclean spirit immediately heard about him, and she came

Page 13: EMANUEL LUTHERAN C A congregation of the Evangelical ...emanuellutheran.net/media/2016/03/Anniversary-Sunday-Bulletin-.pdf · A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in

13

and bowed down at his feet. 26Now the woman was a Gentile, of

Syrophoenician origin. She begged him to cast the demon out of her

daughter. 27He said to her, "Let the children be fed first, for it is not

fair to take the children's food and throw it to the dogs." 28But she

answered him, "Sir, even the dogs under the table eat the children's

crumbs." 29Then he said to her, "For saying that, you may go — the

demon has left your daughter." 30So she went home, found the child

lying on the bed, and the demon gone. 31Then he returned from the

region of Tyre, and went by way of Sidon towards the Sea of

Galilee, in the region of the Decapolis. 32They brought to him a deaf

man who had an impediment in his speech; and they begged him to

lay his hand on him. 33He took him aside in private, away from the

crowd, and put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his

tongue. 34Then looking up to heaven, he sighed and said to him,

"Ephphatha," that is, "Be opened." 35And immediately his ears were

opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. 36Then Jesus

ordered them to tell no one; but the more he ordered them, the more

zealously they proclaimed it. 37They were astounded beyond

measure, saying, "He has done everything well; he even makes the

deaf to hear and the mute to speak."

The gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, O Christ.

Hymn of the Day #729

"The Church of Christ in Every Age"

1 The church of Christ, in ev'ry age beset by change, but Spirit-led,

must claim and test its heritage and keep on rising from the dead.

Page 14: EMANUEL LUTHERAN C A congregation of the Evangelical ...emanuellutheran.net/media/2016/03/Anniversary-Sunday-Bulletin-.pdf · A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in

14

2 Across the world, across the street, the victims of injustice cry for

shelter and for bread to eat, and never live before they die.

3 Then let the servant church arise, a caring church that longs to be

a partner in Christ's sacrifice, and clothed in Christ's humanity.

4 For he alone, whose blood was shed, can cure the fever in our

blood, and teach us how to share our bread and feed the starving

multitude.

5 We have no mission but to serve in full obedience to our Lord; to

care for all, without reserve, and spread his liberating word.

Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and

earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, God's only Son, our Lord, who

was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was

buried; he descended to the dead. On the third day he rose

again; he ascended into heaven, he is seated at the right hand of

the Father, and he will come to judge the living and the dead. I

believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the

communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of

the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.

“Chorale And Fugue (on A Mighty Fortress)” Allan Lust

Arranged by James Denton

The Reconsecration

P: And now in this faith, and with hearts lifted up to Almighty

God, from whom cometh down every blessing, we, ministers of the

Church of Christ here assembled, do set apart and reconsecrate this

edifice as a house of God, as a place of assembly for the Christian

Church under the name of the Evangelical Lutheran Emanuel's

Church, separating it henceforth from all un hallowed, ordinary and

Page 15: EMANUEL LUTHERAN C A congregation of the Evangelical ...emanuellutheran.net/media/2016/03/Anniversary-Sunday-Bulletin-.pdf · A congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in

15

common uses. We reconsecrate it to the preservation and

furtherance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, that in it the Word may be

rightly preached, His holy sacraments may be administered and His

teachings handed down to the latest generations. To these holy

purposes we do set apart and reconsecrate this house, in the name of

the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

But inasmuch as the consecration of the temple erected by human

hands is vain and ineffectual, if not followed by another

consecration, even the consecration of those who intend to worship

therein, I call upon all of you, who are here present, now to

consecrate yourselves anew with all you are and have to the service

of our God. To Him let our calling station in life be consecrated, that

every day may bear witness that we have not received His grace in

vain, but that we are living to His glory. Thus may the consecration

of this house be accompanied by the consecration of ourselves. And

let all the people say, Amen.

"Glorious Day" (Living He Loved Me)

One day when Heaven was filled with His praises

One day when sin was as black as could be.

Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin.

Dwelt among men, my example is He.

Word became flesh and the light shined among us.

His glory revealed.

Living, He loved me Dying, He saved me

Buried, He carried my sins far away

Rising, He justified freely forever

One day He's coming O glorious day, O glorious day

One day they led Him up Calvary's mountain.

One day they nailed Him to die on a tree.

Suffering anguish, despised and rejected.

Bearing our sins, my Redeemer is He.

Hands that healed nations, stretched out on a tree

And took the nails for me.

Living, He loved me. Dying, He saved me.

Buried, He carried my sins far away.

Rising, He justified freely forever

One day He's coming O glorious day, O glorious day

One day the grave could conceal Him no longer

One day the stone rolled away from the door

Then He arose, over death He had conquered.

Now He's ascended, my Lord evermore.

Death could not hold Him, the grave could not keep Him.

From rising again.

Living, He loved me. Dying, He saved me.

Buried, He carried my sins far away.

Rising, He justified freely forever.

One day He's coming. O glorious day,

O glorious day, glorious day

One day the trumpet will sound for His coming.

One day the skies with His glories will shine.

Wonderful day, my Beloved One, bringing.

Amazing Love

My Lord, what love is this, that pays so dearly;

That I, the guilty one, may go free.

Amazing love, O what sacrifice.

The Son of God, giv’n for me;

My debt He pays, and my death He dies,

That I might live, that I might live.

And so, they watched Him die, despised, rejected;

But O, the blood, He shed flowed for me.

Amazing love, O what sacrifice.

The Son of God, giv’n for me;

My debt He pays, and my death He dies,

That I might live, That I might live.

Sending Hymn "Lead On O King Eternal" #805

1 Lead on, O King eternal! The day of march has come; Henceforth

in fields of conquest your tents will be our home. Through days of

preparation your grace has made us strong; and now, O King

eternal, we lift our battle song.

2 Lead on, O King eternal, till sin's fierce war shall cease, and

holiness shall whisper the sweet amen of peace; for not with

swords loud clashing, nor roll of stirring drums, but deeds of love

and mercy the heav'nly kingdom comes.

3 Lead on, O King eternal: we follow, not with fears, for gladness

breaks like morning where'er your face appears.

Your cross is lifted o'er us; we journey in its light; the crown

awaits the conquest; lead on, O God of might!
