My name is Frank Ayers, and I consider it a privilege and great pleasure to serve as the Chancellor of Embry-Riddle’s Prescott Arizona Campus. I joined the University nearly fifteen years ago after a long career in the U.S. Air Force, and along with my wife Debbie, I actively participate in nearly every part of student life on campus. We take pride in having been deeply involved in developing and nurturing academic, athletic, and student life programs that make our Embry-Riddle students the envy of the aviation, engineering, intelligence, business, and science sectors.

WELCOMEfrom the

ChANCELLOR

Dr. and Mrs. Ayers

I am a 1986 graduate of Embry-Riddle Master’s degree program and more recently earned a doctorate in education in 2008. As a “fifty-something” year-old student, I was doing nightly homework just like every other Embry-Riddle student, so I understand the challenges they face. Your sons and daughters are the reason I come to work every day, and my wife Debbie and I would like to develop a more personal relationship with you as well.

Let me tell you about what some of our students have been up to, and will be doing this Fall. A group of engineering and business students are building and marketing a 250 mile per hour Electric Land Speed Record Car (not to worry we will have a professional driver behind the wheel) immediately upon the heels of completing the university’s first completely student-designed and built 300 mph jet dragster. Our nationally recognized “Golden Eagle Flight Team” has secured nine national championships and is hungry for number 10. In the last decade, they have won this coveted title five times, the most of any collegiate team in the nation. Our global studies students will be planning and executing a national conference on global security and cyber security, and as I write this many of them are spending the summer in China, the Middle East, and all over the world. Our study abroad programs are taking students to the Rain Forests of Brazil, and to Ireland and Paris, and all points in between. This year our students are beginning the construction of a Vans RV 12 Aircraft that will be the first aircraft in the campus research and development fleet, and are constructing an earth orbiting “Cube-Sat” that will be launched into orbit in 2016.

The Air Force and Army ROTC detachments commissioned over 40 2nd Lts. last year (one of the largest commissioning classes in the nation), and have a full slate of leadership activities for this year. Our campus proudly hosts over 200 US Military Veteran students.

Once again over 95 percent of our pilot applicants achieved their dream of becoming air force pilots!

We were so very pleased to start up the Nation’s first “College of Security and Intelligence” last spring, and to dedicate the new Security and Intelligence building on campus in the name of Glen Doherty, an Embry-Riddle Prescott alumnus who tragically lost his life during the Benghazi Consulate attacks, while bravely defending his country. This year the campus is undergoing many significant enhancements. Our athletic facilities are undergoing a complete renovation to compliment the recently completed campus fitness center. We are building a new 264 bed residence hall just to the east of the soccer field that will have amazing suites and will open for the Fall of 2016. And our architects have just completed the design of a new 50,000 square foot Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Building on the campus. Construction on this facility should start this fall.

Your sons and

daughters are the

reason I come

to work every

day, and my wife

Debbie and I would

like to develop

a more personal

relationship with you

as well.

This past year our athletic programs entered their third year in the California Pacific (Cal Pac) athletic conference, which placed our Embry-Riddle Scholar athletes in front of a new and greater west coast audience. To date they have earned 10 outright Cal Pac Championships, which are proudly displayed in our activity center, and this last year were proud to highlight the performance of wrestling national champion Jose Cruz, and two time Women’s Golf First team All American Lauren Kruszewski. No wonder the Eagle’s earned the Cal Pac Commissioners Cup this year. We are most proud that our student athletes maintain an amazing record of academic achievement with seven of our nine teams earning “Scholar Athlete team” recognition by the NAIA. On tap for Fall 2015, includes men’s basketball, with women’s basketball and men’s baseball to follow in 2016 and 2017.

Over 2,800 Embry-Riddle grads work proudly for the Boeing Company, and “Riddle” graduates dominate the engineering staffs at Cessna and other major manufacturers. Embry-Riddle pilots are the largest and highest quality single group of commercial pilots in the world. They make our skies safer every day. Graduates of our Global Security and Aviation Business programs are taking seats at the Treasury Department, State Department, CIA, FBI, and in the

boardrooms of aviation businesses around the country. Let me also tell you what Embry-Riddle is doing for our nation right now. Nicole Stott is one of six Embry-Riddle astronauts and is a graduate of Embry-Riddle’s engineering program. She has flown twice, once on the Space Shuttle and a second time on the International Space Station. Another Embry-Riddle astronaut, Colonel Al Drew (who spoke at graduation recently) flew in space with Nicole, while Senior Mission Controller, Norman D. Knight (another “Riddle” Hall of Fame alum), supervised their flight from Mission Control in Houston.

Please take a moment to join the Embry-Riddle Parents’ Association. It is a wonderful organization that connects parents with administrators, faculty, staff, and other parents. I highly recommend it. Since its inception a little over three years ago it has grown to well over 900 members. You are now part of the Embry-Riddle family, and we take that responsibility quite seriously. Please do not hesitate to call or email me with any questions, suggestions, and concerns. I will always get back to you personally within one day on any issue. Also, please communicate with our deans and department chairs. They can especially help you with academic issues. The best part of Embry-Riddle is the close relationship between students, faculty, and parents that starts at the top. Debbie and I look forward to getting to know you better and meeting you at our Parents’ & Family Weekend in the spring.

Warm regards,

Dr. Frank [email protected](928) 777-3800

At Embry-Riddle, we understand and appreciate the vital role that parents play in the lives of our students. Whether you are the parent of a new traditional student, returning student, veteran, or transfer student, our faculty and staff are here to assist and support you and your student’s goals.

We work diligently to provide the support you seek to assist your student in completing his or her academic degree and developing professionally and socially. This process takes a team effort from the staff, faculty, students, and you.

Please take time to familiarize yourself with the resources we have provided. This guide introduces you to campus student organizations and services that are available to you and your student. It provides information about the offices that can best answer your questions and support your needs. It is each student’s responsibility to know their Rights and Responsibilities as members of the Embry-Riddle Prescott community, as well as the basic Standards of Conduct. Students are encouraged to review these documents online at prescott.erau.edu. These guidelines are in place to provide a safe and supportive campus for all of our students to pursue their educational goals. In addition, an online handbook is available for all students that includes information regarding student rights and responsibilities.

Welcome from the Dean of Students

We hope that the activities of all of our students during this academic year become part of lifelong learning experiences that they will adopt and incorporate well into their professional lives and as alumni of Embry-Riddle. Please encourage your student to take advantage of the many student organizations and professional opportunities available on campus. These professional, academic, community service, and co-curricular opportunities will enhance his or her college experience. Through associations with students of similar interests, lifelong friendships are developed and relationships that support future vocational opportunities are forged. These activities will aid in their personal physical, spiritual, social, emotional, and career growth.

Finally, the Federal Education Right to Privacy Act (FERPA) dictates that the University consider students adults, and

as such, all educational records relating to their progress (academic, social, and financial) cannot be shared without their approval. Instructions as to how your student can approve your access to review any confidential information, and allow University staff and faculty to discuss specific concerns, is contained within this parent guide. (This information is also shared with your student during Orientation.)

On behalf of all of us at Embry-Riddle Prescott, Welcome! We look forward to participating in this wonderful new chapter in your student’s life!

Academic Advising at Embry-Riddle provides guidance to all students to empower them with the skills to plan, develop, and achieve their educational, career, and life goals.

Faculty, staff, and career advisors, as well as student mentors, provide one-on-one interaction to help promote student success. Each student is assigned a faculty advisor in his or her field of study. Each college also has an academic advisor who works primarily with incoming students but also provides additional support for faculty advisors and current Embry-Riddle students. Students are encouraged to communicate with their faculty advisors frequently. Free peer tutoring is also available for all students.

Disability Support Services

The Disability Support Services (DSS) Office works with students, faculty, and other departments to ensure access and

Academic Advising and Support

provide reasonable accommodations for students with documented disabilities who apply for assistance. Students are responsible for requesting and filling out an Intake Form, and for providing qualifying documentation (medical evaluations on a doctor’s letterhead verifying the nature and extent of the disability) to the DSS Office. Please allow six weeks for this application process. Prospective students are strongly encouraged to contact the DSS Office by email or telephone several months prior to arriving on campus.

Academic programs that are FAA-certified are subject to regulations that may delay or preclude participation or licensure in those programs by persons with certain disabilities.

Please contact the Disability Support Services Office at (928) 777-6750 for more information.

Student Activities

Truly a hub of student involvement, the Department of Student Engagement develops and implements programs that contribute to a meaningful co-curricular experience. Programs include: Board of Campus Activities, Music, Wellness, Orientation, Passport to Embry-Riddle, OctoberWest Homecoming and the Eagle Leadership Series. This department also offers comprehensive support to all registered campus organizations including Fraternity and Sorority Life.

Student Organizations

The Prescott Campus offers over 115 student organizations. These include: academic, service, club sport, cultural, fraternity and sorority life, military-affiliated and professional organizations. Involvement in these organizations hones important life skills and soft skills used in the career field. Students have the opportunity to learn about

our organizations at the Fall and Spring Student Organization Fairs. A full list of current registered organizations can be found on The Control Tower (thecontroltower.erau.edu).

Competitive Spirit

In addition to our athletic programs, our students compete for various titles and recognitions nationally. Among them, Phi Beta Lambda, the business club, has consistently swept top honors in the statewide competition. The Golden Eagles precision flight team has consistently ranked among the top in the country in the Safety and Flight Evaluation Conference (SAFECON) competitions and has captured the national championship title nine times. Female flight students also have a special opportunity to represent the campus in the Air Race Classic, a transcontinental race for women that dates back to 1929.

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association council is elected each spring for the subsequent year by the student body. SGA provides a communication link between the students and the faculty and staff. SGA council members lead a student panel during new student orientation and participate in almost every committee on campus. The president of the SGA is a student delegate to Embry-Riddle’s Board of Trustees. The SGA serves as the voice of the students and provides many enhancements to student life through its service organizations: Riddle Radio, Board of Campus Activities (BCA), and Horizons Newspaper. Additional SGA services for students include, but are not limited to: free beverage service, Safe Ride (a free taxi ride to students who feel they are in an unsafe situation), lockers, and a free fax service. There is also a weekly shuttle on Wednesday evenings that visits Walmart and Fry’s Food.

For questions, comments, or concerns, contact [email protected] or call (928) 777-3959 or (928) 777-3784.

The purpose of the Prescott Campus Women’s and Diversity Center is to act as both a resource and an advocate for diversity, including groups underrepresented on the Embry-Riddle campus (women, people of color, LGBTQ, diverse socioeconomic groups, etc.).

Our goal is to assist in the improvement of the diversity climate on campus for students, staff, and faculty by promoting mutual respect for the celebration of

Women’s and Diversity Center

differences. The Center accomplishes this through educational programs, recommendations to various University departments, and development of long-term initiatives focused on increasing campus diversity. The Women’s and Diversity Center is supported by the Diversity Advisory Board, comprised of student, faculty, and staff representatives from the Embry-Riddle Prescott Campus. The Board advises the Director and campus on policy and program issues, contributes to various programming efforts, and provides direct financial support to diversity-focused efforts on campus.
