Each year the European Mise en Place Cup is a big success. Not only the quality, knowl-edge and creativity of the students claim to be the reason of this success. Networking is what also contributes to the success of the EMCup.

With this competition we aim to create and build long-lasting relationships, provide hands on experience, open up the horizon for education, build a bridge between schools and companies and connect young professionals to the industry.

Our motto is:“It’s not what you know but who you know that makes the difference”

With this Face Book, we offer you a tool to build, expand and support your network.

Kind Regards,

EMCup Organisation

preface

The EMCup is an interesting competition for all stakeholders. We believe that hospitality plays an important role in our society. In our constantly changing world it is vital to share experienc-es and insights with likeminded people. Sharing expertise and building a strong network are the ingredients to come up with new and innovative products and market developments by which we are encouraged. Today’s market situation forces us to develop new ways of think-ing to become successful. The source of improvement is the reality. After that, the process of development, innovation and experimenting starts.

The EMCUP does not only offer an interesting and informative competition, students also have the possibility to receive dozens of business cards, handshakes and maybe even a connection that will help them in the future. It is the possibility to meet, share visions and build relationships with likeminded people from the worldwide hospitality industry in order to establish contacts for the next step in their career as a young professional. Also for the deans and directors and the EMCup partners it is an unforgettable experience.

That is why the true value of this competition lies not in the competition itself, but around it. Ask any well respected hotel management school alumni, how they have been able to accomplish their success and the majority will include ‘network’ to their answer. Great busi-ness ideas do not just create itself, they grow along their way. By sharing the idea, and to feeding it with ideas from other professionals, it becomes a great business idea.

Let’s keep in touch!

As entrepreneurs and trainers at Qstaff, we have the chance to create challenges for ourselves andfindalotofrewardingenergy.Developingacompanyisexcitingandbringssomuchchallenging situations, that our personal development is guaranteed. A must for us, because we like to practice what we preach. The rewarding energy comes from all the people we see in all kinds of development programs such as the MEP-academy, which focuses on the development of the employees of Mise en Place. Seeing their growth and realizing that we had the opportunity to contribute in their development, gives us all the satisfaction we need.

With its roots in the hospitality, Qstaff focuses on developing people in this industry. Besides hotels, restaurants, caterers, bars, pubs etc. there is a need for hostmanship in all kinds of organisations and companies. To get to a higher level of hospitality it is our key belief that it starts with a change in behavior and then in technique. Qstaff therefore organises a lot of trainings and events from serving plates to leadership and from tapping a beer to personal development. Always looking for the best connection and needs of our relations.

During my last year of Hotel Management School Leeuwarden, I did my traineeship at Forte Heritage Hotels, The Randolph in Oxford, UK. After this year I was asked to stay as assistant Restaurant Manager and one year after that I was promoted to assistant Front OfficeManager. Having stayed for 3 years in the UK, I focused on a career back in the Netherlands andwashiredatMövenpickHotelTheHague-VoorburgasFrontOfficeManager.Thiswasthefirststepinalongcareerwiththisgrowinghotelchain,becausein2006theMövenpickHotel Amsterdam opened and I started there as Training Manager and a year later as Human Resources Manager. The operational experience gave me the helicopter view, which is needed in this kind of position. Now being a mother of a 2 year old boy I combine motherhood with a 4 day working week with still a lot of happiness and joy. The variety in the hotel business and this fast moving chain keeps me focused and challenged. Joining this event is a great start of a brilliant career in this exiting branch and I look forward to meeting you all.

Bart van de Kerkhof Owner

Muurbloem

Muurbloem is a design studio that uses walls as a laboratory where ideas on form, composition and color spring to life. The function and atmosphere of the existing space inspires the design, while the proportions of the architecture form a departure point to play with color and composition. Patterns play an important role in the Muurbloem collection. We have researched traditional patterns from throughout the ages and combined old world painting craftsmanship with modern digital design. ‘We like mixing elements from the present and the past, with exotic cultures from near and far’.

In 2004, Bart van de Kerkhof became owner and general manager of Muurbloem design studio. He takes care of the projects, commercial aspects, the cost controls and the procurement of materials. And if it’s necessary he also knows how to paint! In the last 12,5 years, Muurbloem became a thriving design studio which realizes more than 100 projects a year.

Typical Bart: He is a real networker with a real design heart.

apollo Hotels & resorts

Apollo Hotels & Resorts is a chain of high-quality hotels and resorts in the Benelux. Each establishment is totally unique and has its own character, amenities and atmosphere: absolutely a source of inspiration for a hospitable stay!

Traditionally Apollo was the god who symbolized a zest for life. His lively character constitutes the foundation of our quality concept. The Apollo temple, built on the Greek island of Naxos, was the source of inspiration when we designed our logo.

Our vision; The aspect that all the hotels and resorts have in common is the respect for core values that translate into the three values: True Spirit, Hospitality (genuine zest for life) and Local Colour. Within Apollo Hotels & Resorts I am responsible for the Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam, a 223 room property just outside the City Centre and within a 10 minute walk of the RAI Convention Centre. The Wyndham Apollo Hotel has 5 meeting spaces, 2 restaurants and 2 terraces overlooking the famous Amsterdam canals.

vincent dierickxtrainerQstaff

With its roots in the hospitality, Qstaff focuses on developing people in this industry. Besides hotels, restaurants, caterers, bars, pubs etc. there is a need for hostmanship in all kinds of organisations and companies. To get to a higher level of hospitality it is our key belief that it starts with a change in behavior and then in technique. Qstaff therefore organises a lot of trainings and events from serving plates to leadership and from tapping a beer to personal development. Always looking for the best connection and needs of our relations.

As entrepreneur, manager and trainer with an international hospitality company, I learn new things each day. These daily challenges help me to constantly learn and develop. Qstaff gives me the opportunity to share these experiences with as many people as possible. As licensed MEPS-trainer I love working with teams and individuals. Not only training or teaching, but most important helping them in their growth as a person or a team.
