Definition of Terms
The following provides brief definitions of terms used throughout this report:
General Salary Increase Budget: The amount of any across-the-board increases including mandatory increases given to all employees in a classification, without consideration to performance. This would include general lump sum payments and cost-of-living allowances (COLA). The budget percentage is calculated by dividing the sum of increases granted/anticipated in the year, divided by the total salaries of all eligible employees, whether or not they received a non-merit increase.
Merit (Performance-Related) Increases: This is a variable rate increase, which is granted to an employee based on his individual performance. The budget percentage is calculated by dividing the sum of increases granted / anticipated in the year, divided by the total salaries of all eligible employees, whether or not they received a merit increase.Include your Promotions and Exceptions budget in this figure.
