Many of our students and teaching staff have reported about the positive improvements that are being seen within our classes, and more importantly for our students’ learning.

I would like to thank all our students and parents who have given us feedback on our Ready to Learn program. I would like to encourage any parents or families who have any concerns with this initiative to please call or email the College to ensure that we address these concerns immediately.

For the Junior school, phone calls, letters and notes should be directed to Mr Jaremczuk, and for the Senior school, phone calls, letters and notes should be directed to Ms Alder.

Facebook PageLast week, the College reinstated its official Facebook page. This is managed by College staff, and we will be using it to share with our community, any upcoming events, or any specific items which we would like to celebrate. To assist our parents and families with the correct page, there is an image of the heading on the page below.

Please lookout for items on our FB page. https://www.facebook.com/Emerald-Secondary-College-107941602572331/

Hawthorn FC Visit to ESC.On 27th February, Cyril Rioli, James Cousins and Luke Surman of the Hawthorn Football Club visited Emerald Secondary College and spoke specifically to our VET Sport and Recreation class.

The class all listened to the player’s individual stories, and their passion for playing AFL footy. They each spoke about their journey to becoming a professional footballer, their lifestyles and training regime, their futures beyond Football as well as what other jobs are involved in the sport such as Nutritionists, Physiotherapists and Sports Psychologists.

Students had the opportunity to ask questions and were keen to get photos with the players.

UniformUnfortunately, Beleza have not given the College any indication of current stock however, some of our families have reported that there is very limited stock remaining.

If families wish to purchase uniform items please see the following information which we received from Beleza in January. Please note that the new uniform that is available from PSW in Officer or online is a whole school uniform. This is intended to unite the whole College and support families who wish to resell the one uniform rather than having two separate uniforms. Our Year 12’s will still have their own unique jackets in future years to come.Beleza Pakenham currently stock:

• Girls winter skirts• PE uniform

• School fleece• School jacket• Some Senior school items

PSW Officer currently stock:• Girls summer uniform-

summer dress, shorts, summer short sleeved shirt with ESC logo.

• Boys summer uniform- shorts, summer short sleeved shirt with ESC logo.

• Boys winter uniform -long pants, winter long sleeved shirt.

• Unisex College jumper• Optional school back pack

with laptop section.

We understand this can be confusing for our families and ask for your consideration and support in this matter. Can I reassure you that only the 2018 Year 7 students will need to wear the new uniform. All our current students will not have to wear the new uniform until 2020 and can wear the current

Beleza uniform until then.School CouncilSchool Council nominations have come to a close. I would like to announce to our community our 2017 School Council. Positions within the Council will be formally decided at our next meeting in March. In early April we will advise our community, of each member’s role and their specific interests.School Council Executive – Jodie DobleParent Reps - Phillip DwyerNigel PughKaren ToddMichelle DowsettRachelle MechielsenHeike ReichStaff Reps-Michael JaremczukEstelle AlderJulie Cross-GunnJayne Thompson

Jodie Doble College PrincipalInter School Show jumping:Hi my name is Bella Lloyd and I am in Yr 7 this year. I have been riding horses for most of my life, and have previously competed in many Inter School Equestrian competitions representing my primary school since grade 2.

Two Fridays ago, I represented ESC for the first time at the Ayr Hill Inter School Show Jumping Series. I was so happy to be competing in a higher grade (95-1.05cm) for the first time, where I placed in two sections coming 7th and 10th. I was happy with my results considering there were 60 other competitors and most of them are much older than me.

In the past I have usually been the only one from my school who competes, so it is good to see some other people from ESC who ride horse as well. Hopefully we can go out competing as a team this year! Thanks for reading, Bella Lloyd Yr 7
