Goubeaud’s Home Appliances was located where the IGA is now. The door in your photograph faced 1st Street. My father’s store was previously located di-agonally across the street, on the northeast corner of First and South Streets. He shared this space with Terry’s Bike Shop. Google Maps indicates Triangle Sea Sales is there now. In the ads for the appliance store that I found on the NYS Historical News-papers site, the address changes from “corner of First and South” to “313 First Street” in 1952. The last ad I found for the first address appeared in the Traveler on June 26, 1952. The first ad with the 313 address appeared on Sept. 4, 1952. By  the way, there was a bonus for our family in your June 2018 issue. My mother is in the first grade photo on page 15! — Katherine Goubeaud Dodd

I just saw the June copy of The Peconic Bay Shopper. On page 5 there is a photo of the U.S. Post Office at the site of the former Goubeaud Home Appliances.  That was my father Charles Goubeaud’s building and yes it is now the site of IGA. It was a thrill to see the photo. Thanks. — Ann Goubeaud Fox

According to a an ad in the February 24th, 1955 issue of the Long Island Traveller Watchman the business was located at 313 South St, opposite the municipal parking lot. This would be the current location of the IGA. The business moved to Southold in December of 1955.  — Adam Kaelin

After printing this photo in the June issue of this year we received conflicting information, printed in July, still trying to clarify the location of Goubeauds Home Appliances. Here’s some clarification.

Rory Klinge sent this page from the Traveler Watchman, July 1955.

Ad copies provided by Jim Goubeaud.
