Sentinel Automatic Self-Testing

Sentinel is an automatic self-testing system designed to a world standard to automatically perform routine tests specified by AS/NZS 2293.

Sentinel eliminates the need for additional wiring or upgrades and can be installed on existing local wiring circuits. The system ensures that fittings meet the discharge test requirements of AS/NZS 2293, including when non-conforming wiring is present and no emergency lighting test switch is installed.

Once installed Sentinel automatically performs the routine tests required, 120 minutes on commissioning and 90-minute tests every 91 days thereafter. Device statuses are then displayed via the LED indicators.

SENTINEL NOW BUILT-IN!Sentinel is now built into our range of PREMIUM Lithium Emergency and Exit Lighting as standard.

Mesh networking technology operates every node as a transmitter and receiver minimising the amount of hardware therefore reducing costs. Each area is managed by a dedicated Smart Area Controller (SMARCO) which performs diagnostics in compliance with Australian Standards and collects data from each connected device.

If one device can no longer communicate via its original path, the system automatically self-heals, redirecting communication via other devices. This ensures that the system is always communicating to the main SMARCO via the optimal route.

Wireless fidelity - No extra wiring or communication cables between devices. SubGHz frequencies for extended coverage and high penetration through walls & floors.

Web-Based - Completely customised, embedded within the SMARCO and accessed via most web enabled devices.

Off-site commissioning & monitoring – Includes the provision for remote access to complete commissioning or system monitoring, avoiding on-site labour costs.

Total management - Monitor, schedule tests, maintain logbooks and obtain status reports for the entire emergency lighting system.

Operational ModesMaintained Mode: All emergency lamps are active at all times. The lamps are active when the mains power is ON, all lamps switch to emergency mode when the mains power is lost.

Non-maintained Mode: All emergency lamps are non-active when the mains power is ON. All lamps switch to emergency mode when the mains power is lost.

Combined Maintained Mode: All emergency lamps are operational when the mains power is ON. Only one lamp will switch to emergency mode when the mains power is lost.

Combined Non-maintained Mode (Sustained): Only one of the lamps are operational when the mains power is ON. When the mains power is lost the other lamp will switch to emergency mode and the mains operating lamp will shut off.

Accessories

The Australian Standards AS/NZS 2293 specifies that a two hour discharge test has to be performed to commission an emergency lighting installation and a 90 minute discharge test has to be performed at least 6 months thereafter. BARDIC Emergency Lighting Test Switches provide a simple test procedure for the emergency lighting circuits connected to it to simulate a supply circuit failure.

What is a Centrally Supplied System?An emergency lighting system in which a number of exit signs, or emergency luminaires, or both, are supplied from a common power source.

Centrally supplied luminaires are a light source with its emergency power source and associated charging and control equipment located in a remote room or enclosure. The emergency power source may be located in a room with battery systems associated with building monitoring, fire safety or evacuation systems.

A central battery system differs from the conventional SPU (single point unit) fittings in that the battery to power the fitting in emergency mode is physically removed from the fitting itself.

What types of Centrally Supplied Systems are available?Central battery systems are custom designed with common configurations including:

• Dual supply: 240VAC mains running maintained fittings with the central battery system supplying the backup emergency power

» The 110VDC supply from the central battery system could be either maintained or non-maintained.

• 110VDC Slave: A fitting (slave) is powered solely by the central battery system » Maintained - The 110VDC supply from the central battery system is always

‘live’, resulting in slave fittings being maintained. » Non-maintained - The 110VDC supply from the central battery system is

only powered on loss of mains, slave fittings are non-maintained.

Whilst 110VDC is the most common voltage used in central battery systems, many other variants have been created using other voltages such as 24 or 36VDC. For new installations, 240VAC is often the more desirable solution.
