as a monopoly provider or regulator of services, lacks channels to listen or at times

disregards people’s feedback..

• Technologies are simply tools!.... and have to be built in conversation with target groups and in recognition of their needs;

• planning, clear objectives and scenario building including Proof of Concept;

• Leverage on what works! Smart Ctrl-c / Ctrl-v, context is key;

• Beyond the “wow”… then what? : partnerships, especially with issue based organizations for uptake;

• Drivers or curators of the technology are key for “beyond pilots to scale-up”, learning and consistency;

• Messaging in outreach “report on election offences” Vs “protect your vote” - turning info into action;

• Combine both on-web/mobile & offline strategies;

• Policy advocacy including technology and social accountability - .KE “Mobiles not allowed at Poll stations”, Open Data and standards.

• Improved governments but largely unresponsive to citizens;

• Services have expanded but lack quality and accountability;

• Everyday retail level is what matters most to ordinary citizens – my medicine, my child;

• Information is essential for citizen action;

• Young people are a key demographic;

• Civil society could offer a critical space for collective action, but needs to be re-invented;

...having access to practical tools, pathways and examples of how to turn information into action, ordinary citizens can become the drivers of their

own development...
