It has certainly been a busy semester in the Emeritus College! We have had great attendance at events especially in light of the innumerable printing and mailing problems we have encountered. It seems as though each mailing brings unforeseen challenges and is- sues beyond our control. I am pleased to announce that the second annual Emeritus Day on Campus will be held on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at the Madren Center. At this time, we will issue lifetime user ID’s which will en- able continued access to email. Our luncheon speaker will be Kay Wall, Dean of University Librar- ies. Mark your calendar now! Emeritus Certificates

The Emeritus College office is pleased to assume responsi-bility for awarding Emeritus Certificates at the General Faculty Meeting on May 10. We are considering revising the certificates as well as the process for the future. If you have suggestions for chang-ing the certificates, the proc-ess, or the presentation, please let us know.

New Web Site Design

You may not be aware that the University’s web site is undergoing major renovation. A new Office of Web Services (OWS) has been instituted for the purpose of redesigning the web site. Each University department is encouraged to redesign its web site using templates that will be provided by OWS. We will begin to redesign the Emeritus College web site during the summer. We plan to add several new features including an Emeriti in Action section in the Photo Gallery.

Email Reminders

We are trying to establish an email distribution list whereby event reminders and immedi-ate good-of-the-order informa-tion might be communicated. We will continue to mail most information but email will help us to communicate in a more timely manner. If you did not receive an email message about Emeritus Night at the Brooks Center, then please send us your current email address. Send it to: [email protected]

Still have that unfinished manuscript in a box? What about those lecture notes you plan to organize…someday? And do you really need to keep a 1952 edition of Introduction to World Civilization? Well, the answer to this dilemma may be the University Libraries!

The University Libraries, in conjunction with the Emeritus College, is inter-ested in preserving your contributions to Clemson’s history as well as receiving publications that may be added to the collections or sold at book sales. A committee of emeriti, chaired by Dr. Jerry Reel has been work-ing with the library to develop a process for your acquisitions. You will be receiving a letter from Kay Wall, Dean of the Libraries, with details on how to donate your “stuff” (and clean out the garage)!

What’s New?

SPECIAL FEATURE: The University Archives…or How to Clean Out Your Garage!

Upcoming Events Emeritus Night at the Base-ball Game

We had so much fun at the basketball game we’ve de-cided to do it again…at a baseball game. The Tigers were ranked #1 in the pre-season polls so come watch them on the road to Omaha! Wednesday, April 25 at 6:00 pm will be Emeritus Day at the Baseball Game when the Ti-gers play host to Wofford. All emeriti and spouse/guest are invited to this free event. No additional information will be mailed. Please RSVP to [email protected] or 656-3990

Town ‘n Gown Exhibit

Many of you were interviewed last year for the Town ‘n Gown Oral History Project. Students who conducted the interviews are preparing an exhibit that will run May 3 – June 13 in Cooper Library. The exhibit will depict life on campus and in the town during the 20th century. If you were inter-viewed for this project you will receive an invitation to a re-ception at the library; however we hope everyone will stop by and see this visual account of life in Clemson as told by retir-ees.

The third annual Emeritus Night at the Brooks Center was attended by almost 100 emeriti and guests. The Clemson Players did an outstanding job in their performance of Urinetown which was directed by Professor Mark Charney. Prior to the performance, emeriti had the opportunity to partake of refreshments and enjoy chatting with former colleagues.

Success Stories: Emeritus Events!

Thank You, Friends! (Help your College - join today!)

Enjoying conversation and spirits at the Brooks Center are emeriti Bruce Cook, Morris Cox, Ed Free-man, and Jack McLaughlin.

There's chemistry in the smiles of emeriti Joe Allen and Mike Hub-bard!

Ann Brown and Pat Cook join emeriti Mickey Harder and Farrell Brown at Emeritus Night.

It was Super Bowl Sunday but 52 emeriti and guests chose to attend the Opening Gala of Emeriti in Action at Cooper Library. The exhibit featured work of 29 emeriti ranging from mystery books by Corinne Holt Sawyer to a hymnal edited by Elwyn Deal to botani-cal photography by Jim Fanning. Those is attendance enjoyed the exhibit, reception, and of course, visiting with old friends. Many thanks to Susan Hiott, Library Curator, and the Emeritus College Library Exhibit Committee, chaired by Lucy Rollin, for their work.
