Emerson and Nature

Emerson and NatureEmerson; a vassal of nature

Emersons quotesFirst the simple perception of natural forms is a delight.; meaning that nature gives people happiness. It is the first feeling that people have when exposed to nature.

Nature satisfies the soul purely by its loveliness, and without any mixture of corporal benefit. This means that people can be fulfilled and satisfied by nature without having to make money or benefit themselves from it.

the happiest man is he who learns from nature the lessons of worship. That can be interpreted as that the man who knows nature is closer to God, and that nature can bring man closer to what is esoteric.

Berrying

"May be true what I had heard,Earth's a howling wildernessTruculent with fraud and force,"Said I, strolling through the pastures,And along the riverside.Caught among the blackberry vines,Feeding on the Ethiops sweet,Pleasant fancies overtook me:I said, "What influence me preferredElect to dreams thus beautiful?"The vines replied, "And didst thou deemNo wisdom to our berries went?"

In this short poem, Emerson is speaking to himself about nature. He speaks about how other peoples idea of nature is different than his own.

And while the ideas of nature being a fraud are going through his head, He realizes how calming nature is.

Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience.

This quote is explaining that nature is slow paced. It is saying that we should be more like nature and be more patient with things.

What is nature to you?Nature is a calming force, for most people.
