The unofficial start to Summer! I hope that you and your family have time this weekend to remember all of those that have fought and continue to fight for the freedoms that we as Americans have the joy of experiencing every day. Memorial Day weekend is more than a weekend of grilling, camping and time off of school. If you are able, attend a pa- rade or visit a veteran to thank them for their service, as it is our responsibility as adults to teach our children the importance of this holiday! I wish you and your family a safe, relaxing and memorable Memorial Day weekend. The warm temperatures are making students antsy to wear summer clothes! I would like to put a friendly reminder out about appropriate clothing for school. Students are able to wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger tips when arms are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully covered (i.e. no spa- ghetti straps and tank tops are not encouraged) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless there is something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate shoe for school due to the lack of support and protection to the feet. Thank you for your cooperation in making the learning environment as free from distraction and as safe as possible. Our 3 rd grade students will continue M-STEP testing next week. They will complete the Math portion on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27 with Thursday, May 28 th as the day reserved for make-up testing. In case you weren’t aware, The M-STEP is the replacement test of the MEAP. We hope to have results by early Fall. Just a reminder our 5 th grade Band students will put on a marching parade on Wednes- day, May 27 at 2:00 for the school and parents to view. The parade will start on Oliver Street in front of Emerson and turn north on Dewey Street and stop in front of the playground. Save the Date: Thursday, June 4 at 7:00 PM is our 5 th grade Celebration in the Emer- son Gym. This is to celebrate the fact that the students have successfully completed their ele- mentary school years and are making the move to Owosso Middle School. Our Kindergarten Celebration will also take place in the Emerson Gym on Friday, June 5 at 9:15. This too is a celebration of the fact that the students have completed Kindergarten and will be moving on to 1 st grade. These are two very special events in the school-life of a child. Congratulations to each of them and to the parents for supporting them! The 2014-15 school year is quickly coming to a close! Friday, June 5 is a half-day of school with dismissal at Noon. The final Report Card will be coming home with students on this day! I hope that you all have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! Enjoy the sunshine and your family! 1st Day of School

Sedlar’s Snipet

Hello Emerson Families~

Ahhh, Memorial Day! The unofficial start to Summer! I hope that you and your family

have time this weekend to remember all of those that have fought and continue to fight for the

freedoms that we as Americans have the joy of experiencing every day. Memorial Day weekend

is more than a weekend of grilling, camping and time off of school. If you are able, attend a pa-

rade or visit a veteran to thank them for their service, as it is our responsibility as adults to teach

our children the importance of this holiday! I wish you and your family a safe, relaxing and

memorable Memorial Day weekend.

The warm temperatures are making students antsy to wear summer clothes! I would

like to put a friendly reminder out about appropriate clothing for school. Students are able to

wear shorts that are at an appropriate length. Shorts should be below the finger tips when arms

are at the side of the child. Shoulders, backs and stomachs should be fully covered (i.e. no spa-

ghetti straps and tank tops are not encouraged) also low cut shirts should not be worn unless

there is something underneath. Flip-flops are not an appropriate shoe for school due to the lack

of support and protection to the feet. Thank you for your cooperation in making the learning

environment as free from distraction and as safe as possible.

Our 3rd

grade students will continue M-STEP testing next week. They will complete the

Math portion on Tuesday, May 26 and Wednesday, May 27 with Thursday, May 28th as the day

reserved for make-up testing. In case you weren’t aware, The M-STEP is the replacement test

of the MEAP. We hope to have results by early Fall.

Just a reminder our 5th grade Band students will put on a marching parade on Wednes-

day, May 27 at 2:00 for the school and parents to view. The parade will start on Oliver Street in

front of Emerson and turn north on Dewey Street and stop in front of the playground.

Save the Date: Thursday, June 4 at 7:00 PM is our 5th grade Celebration in the Emer-

son Gym. This is to celebrate the fact that the students have successfully completed their ele-

mentary school years and are making the move to Owosso Middle School. Our Kindergarten

Celebration will also take place in the Emerson Gym on Friday, June 5 at 9:15. This too is a

celebration of the fact that the students have completed Kindergarten and will be moving on to

1st grade. These are two very special events in the school-life of a child. Congratulations to

each of them and to the parents for supporting them!

The 2014-15 school year is quickly coming to a close! Friday, June 5 is a half-day of

school with dismissal at Noon. The final Report Card will be coming home with students on this

day!

I hope that you all have a fantastic Memorial Day weekend! Enjoy the sunshine and

your family!
