She worked as a Geospatial Analyst for South Dakota State University where she was recruited for a NASA-funded research project forecasting the West Nile virus risk. Personal Biography When Paolla is not engineering, she devotes her time to her two beautiful kids: a 4-year old boy and a 3-year old girl. You will find her hiking with her family on Missourian trails during nice weather and enjoying indoor pools when the weather does not cooperate. She enjoys learning and talking about different cultures and languages, although she is picky about trying new foods. Paolla’s husband is from Ukraine and they only communicate with each other in English. Sometimes some words can get lost in translation making even the smallest conversations turn into a whole lot of work. They made their home in Missouri three years ago and have enjoyed every moment.

He received his bachelor’s degree in structural engineering from the University of Wyoming in 2008. He has been working with McClure Engineering (formerly THHinc) for the last 10 years and is currently a project manager. He has experience with structures of all types of construction and has worked on a range of buildings from single to twelve story building that take him around the country. Marcus is currently licensed in 4 states and working on projects in Detroit, Chicago, Gainesville, and Missouri. [email protected] Professional Biography Kevin Kuhl has worked in the Kansas City office of HNTB for 17 years. He has served as geotechnical engineer for most of these years until he became the geotechnical section manager in December 2017. The geotechnical section consists of seven geotechnical engineers, a technician, and a geologist. Geotechnical design is completed on major bridge and roadway projects throughout the United States of America; however, many of the projects are located primarily in the Midwest. He has both deep and shallow foundation inspection experience as well as geotechnical design experience in a variety of soil and rock conditions. Geotechnical design performed includes shallow and deep foundations, major river caisson geotechnical design (bearing capacity and settlement), retaining wall design (cast-in-place, soil nail, mechanically stabilized earth, soldier pile and lagging, secant shaft walls), building support recommendations, roadway slope design, ground improvement design, and pavement design. A portion of his time is spent reviewing geotechnical designs and reports on HNTB projects where the geotechnical section is not providing the design. Kevin graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1990 and Master of Engineering in Civil Engineering from the University of North Dakota in 1991. Professional Biography Tom Lohman has over 22 years of experience as a structural engineer and inspector, specializing in highway bridges and related structures. He is currently the Assistant Business Unit Leader – Structural Bridge for Horner & Shifrin where he has worked for 12 years. Prior to his time at H&S, he was a structural engineer for MoDOT’s Bridge Division for 10 years. He received a BSCE and MSCE from Missouri S&T. In addition to the structural analysis and design of bridges, he has extensive experience with HEC-RAS hydraulic modeling. Tom is qualified to discharge the duties of a Team Leader in accordance with the requirements of the National Bridge Inspection Standards (NBIS) and is a registered PE in Missouri, Illinois and Arkansas as well as a registered SE in Illinois. He is an active member of the Great Plains Chapter of the International Concrete Repair Institute, having chaired the scholarship committee for the past three years. He has managed many bridge repair projects for MoDOT in the past decade including to the 8000’ long double deck I-64 Poplar Street Bridge Approach which included 37 expansion joint replacements, hydrodemolition of the slab, concrete overlay and steel repairs. He also managed the rehabilitation of the Rte. 76 Bridge over Lake Taneycomo in Branson, MO, an open spandrel reinforced concrete arch bridge, which received the 2012 Precast Concrete Institute’s (PCI’s) Best Rehabilitated Bridge Design Award. He has been on the programming committee for the annual Transportation Engineers Association of Missouri conference for five years and has been a presenter at the conference several times. Personal Biography Tom has been a member of Toastmasters for five years and is currently the President of the McCarthy Communication Builders Toastmasters club. [email protected] Professional Biography Anne Schroer grew up in Merriam, KS and attended Johnson County Community College and the University of Kansas as a non-traditional student and graduated with a BSCE in 2003. Her first “real job” out of college was working for BRB Contractors as a field engineer on water and wastewater treatment plant projects. After two years of working on construction projects in Topeka, Iola and Shawnee, KS, she decided it was time to find a job to gain engineering design experience, with the goal of becoming a licensed Professional Engineer. With this in mind, in 2005 she joined GBA as a roadway designer, and became a licensed engineer in 2007. Soon after, Anne began the Master of Civil Engineering program to advance her knowledge of roadway design. She later switched to the Master of Science in Engineering Management and graduated from The University of Kansas in 2010. Since joining GBA, she had the opportunity to work on and lead design teams for several innovative interchange and roadway design projects in both Kansas and Missouri. Notable projects include the Johnson County Gateway Design Build Project at I-435, I-35 & K-10 and, most recently, the US-50 & M-291S Divergabout in Lee’s Summit. She currently serves as a Transportation Project and Roadway Group Leader for GBA. Personal Biography Anne has been a Chiefs season ticket holder for 16 years, attending almost every game with her sister. She has managed a variety of projects including the 2011 California ACEC Merit Award project winner, Enterprise at Big Dry Creek, Boswell Groundwater Banking Facility, and Webster County Route B Realignment and Grade Separated Railroad Crossing. In addition to managing projects, she also has experience in all aspects of roadway design including geometrics, corridor modeling, bike and pedestrian accommodations and utility coordination. Jennifer is currently the design lead for a 16-mile safety improvement project on US-65 in Christian and Taney counties, which will include an in-depth crash analysis and developing design alternatives for 20 intersections or roadway segments. She also serves on the Board of Directors for the Ozarks Chapter of International Transportation Engineers, served as the Responsible Engineer in Charge for an Engineers Without Borders Community Engineering Corps project in rural Monterey County, CA and participated in a rapid structural analysis as part of Missouri’s S.A.V.E. coalition, following the extensive flooding in Van Buren, MO in 2017. Personal Biography Jennifer was born and raised in California before moving to Missouri with her husband in 2013. She has two kids, ages 6 and 4, and enjoys traveling, reading and cycling.
