Dear all, Welcome to camp 2019, we are incredibly lucky to be running camp again from Berwick Farm this year, most of you have already know that Berwick is under the new ownership of the Padfield family and we are very grateful to them for allowing us to be here again. Many of you have been to our summer rallies here and will know what a fantastic place it is. We have the same team running camp this year, Sue Hall, Sarah Nelmes, Charlotte Pegrum, Ella Caton and myself, our fantastic camp chef Emily Bray has agreed to cook for us, the amazing Melanie Thornton will be back to run the stables and our Director of Fun Richard Pohl will be thinking up suitable entertainment for the evenings with lots of games and events going on to keep you all entertained. Please see the information sheet for further details regarding your accommodation and ponies. Please read these carefully with your children so they are fully informed of what will be expected of them at camp, some seem to think team duties are optional, they are not, all duties are scored and a prize is given at the end of the week to the top scoring team. Your team captains take this very seriously and it is always a hard-fought battle! There is one major change this year, you will need to bring your own bedding for your ponies – so please bring SHAVINGS, we will not be providing straw this year. Please note that we will be running a check-in and registration again where you will need to sign both your child and pony over to us. You will also need to hand over your pony’s passport before you leave at 4.30pm, registration will be in the barn, no passport no stable, please make sure that your vaccinations are fully up to date. Looking forward to seeing you all, I am sure we will have another amazing week. Emma, Sue and Sarah Contact: Emma Good 07769 676154 [email protected]

General Information for Camp 2019

28th July – 2nd August

Camp will be open from 2-4pm on Saturday 27th July for you to bring in your accommodation and bed down your stables (please see below).

Camp will then start on Sunday 28th, you should arrive between 3.30 and 4.30 pm and make yourselves and your ponies comfortable. Parents will be asked to say their goodbyes by 5pm at the latest. Supper will be served at 6.30, this will be a ‘snacky’ meal on the first night (so please make sure you all have a large lunch!). A Camp meeting will follow with all notices, teams, rides, rules, duties and health and safety. Prize giving will be on Friday at 3.30pm (approx.) when parents are encouraged to come and clap loudly and then everyone can depart.

1. We will supply hay this year but not straw, you will need to bring your own shavings, one bale is not enough, ponies are not turned out at all but will be housed in temporary stables, you will need a minimum of 2 bales, but more likely 3 depending on the size of your horse. Do not lay deep beds on the first day as the ponies like to dig it up to eat the grass, put a small amount of shavings around the outside of the stable leaving the grass exposed.

2. Please only bring normal sized buckets as the children struggle to carry them when they are full. A kit list is attached.

3. Make sure all equipment is clearly labelled.

4. Emily makes sure the children are all really well fed, there are always drinks, fruit and biscuits freely available, so no need for any tuck please, it just adds to the chaos and mess in their accommodation. Please note this year again we will not be allowing energy drinks, the children do not need them, they have plenty of energy already and caffeine at bed time is never a good idea. The kids are welcome to bring in some small bottled water and some cans of other fizzy drinks if they are desperate, however no large bottles of still or fizzy drinks will be allowed this year due to alcohol being smuggled in them previously. If found they will be removed.

5. Gas bottles are not allowed because of health and safety risk, please make

sure they are removed from your accommodation.

6. The use of alcohol is strictly forbidden. Frequent and random checks will be made on all accommodation and breathalysers will be used if your child is suspected of drinking alcohol. Please make your child aware of this, if your child test’s positive they will be immediately sent home and no refund given. Obviously camp is a no smoking zone and anyone found smoking will also be sent home immediately.

7. Please note there is only one shower at Berwick which is very temperamental and not always in working order, the children are usually very adept with a bucket of fresh water and some wet wipes, all part of the fun of camping!

8. You will be allowed to wear different coloured Jods during the week but you will need clean cream ones for the competition on Friday. There are new Camp hoodies for 2019 also EHNPC Onesies on the GG Gear Website perfect for mucking out on a chilly morning, put in EHNPC into their search. www.gggear.co.uk

9. Unless you have been asked to help with lunch, supper or the competition, parents are not allowed to come to camp as it unsettles the children, especially the younger ones. If for any reason you need to visit to drop something off for example, you must phone and organize a time with either myself of Sarah, am always available on my mobile in case of any problems, if you have any worries at all you can call me at any time 07769 676154 or Sarah Nelmes on 07731 019969. All parents visiting (those invited to help) must sign in and out. We do need helpers so please, if you can, make yourself available and indicate a willingness to help on the online form.

10. Please make sure your pony is fit and well and has just been shod before camp, all your tack should fit and be in good condition, make sure you also have a stronger bit if needs be. If your pony has any quirky habits, bites or barges please let us know, before your pony does, our Stable Managers like their fingers as do I.

11. If all parents could bake (or buy) a home baked cake, which we give to the children every day at tea time, after a long day in the saddle it is very much appreciated by them all (and the instructors). Please give them either to Emily

or one of the Team on the Sunday in a named Tin or Tupperware and remember to collect them at the end of camp.

12. Please make sure your pony is fully vaccinated and wormed before you come to camp. You will be asked to bring your pony’s passport again this year which we will be kept on site and returned to you after you have cleaned your stable out and it has been checked by our stable managers on the last day. Please don’t forget them!! No Passport, No Stable!!

13. We are very lucky to be hosting camp from Berwick, please respect the fact that the Padfield family have very kindly let us be here and make a special effort to keep your accommodation, stables and surrounding area rubbish free. Please bring your own rubbish bags and pick any litter that you see (even if it’s not yours). Nobody will be allowed to leave until camp is left as we found it as we would like to be invited back next year.

14. Camp is run by an amazing group of volunteers each year and takes a huge amount of organization and time. Please explain to your children that Camp duties are not optional, this is how we make camp run as well as it does, the children will be expected to be on time and report for their team duties, which will include cleaning the Barn, Kitchen, tidying the Muck Heap and Loos, if your child will not be happy doing these chores, then perhaps camp would not be suitable for your child.

15. Children are always expected to treat the staff with respect and be polite. No bad behavior, bullying of other children or poor treatment of your ponies will be tolerated.

16. Parents will need to be easily available in case of illness or injury, please provide at least 2 mobile numbers on the online form that we can always contact you or a grandparent or guardian on.

17. Address for Camp is Berwick Farm, Berwick Lane, Stamford Rivers, CM5 9PY. Please follow the EHNPC signs for set up.

18. We will be running a check-in service from 3.30pm – 4.30pm on the Sunday, please make sure you sign in and hand over your pony’s passport before you leave.

19. Please note that we recommend that no more than 4 children should share

accommodation as it’s impossible for them to keep it tidy and they do get marked on tidiness, and this can cause upset.

20. You will be designated an area to leave your accommodation/horsebox in, these are set out this way for a reason, so the younger children are nearest to the adults. Please do not move them or else you might find yourself parked next to the muck heap for the week or even worse between the loos and the staff!

21. If you have any queries or worries, however small, please don’t hesitate to send me an email, Camp can seem quite daunting for the younger children the first time they come, if there is anything at all you think would help your child settle, just let me know. We make sure the first night is a real team bonding experience and a lot of fun!

22. I will need to have the balance no later than June 1st, if I don’t receive this by this date, I will assume your child no longer wants a place and it will be offered to another child. I understand that there can be pony/accommodation changes nearer the time, just please let me know if you do change, so I can make sure your child and pony are in the correct group/accommodation on site! Don’t worry if you haven’t got a friend to share with, we can normally sort something out for you, again just let me know and we will ‘buddy you up’ or at least make sure you are camping with the children in your ride.
