ElementaryDistrict 279 School Counseling Choice Board
Weekly Topic: EmpathyEmpathy is ”taking a walk in
someone else’s shoes”. Discuss with an adult what it means to “walk in someone else’s shoes”. What do you
think it means?
Ask a family member or friend to share about a time they had a BIG feeling. Are you able to imagine what it would feel like to be that
person at that time?

Watch a video or TV show. Pick one character
and think about their feelings. Name at least one feeling. There may
be more than one.

Make sure you add details. How do we know how they are feeling?
Read a book. Pick a character and pay
attention to their feelings through the story. How many different feelings
did you identify?
Name 5 feelings. Show someone the feelings by making faces. Have them guess what feeling your
face is making.
Draw a picture of an angry face. Then draw a picture of a happy face. What is the difference?
Play feelings charades. Write feelings on pieces of paper and put them in a bowl. Take turns acting out feelings and guessing what the feeling is.
Think about a time when a friend was sad. How did it make you feel? What did you do? Is
there anything else you could have done?
Feelings collage: Look around your house for old magazines (ask an adult
before using them). Cut out pictures of people (faces) and glue them on a blank
sheet of paper. Try to find at least 5 different feelings.
Think of something you can do when a friend or
family member looks disappointed.
Do a random act of kindness. Pay attention to how a person reacts.
