Employment and Social Development Canada Investigation into June 2014 incident in Moncton Today the RCMP was charged under the Canada Labour Code (CLC) relative to the events on June 4, 2014, in Moncton, NB. When a federal government employee loses his or her life on the job, Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), the Labour Canada regulator, conducts an investigation as mandated by the CLC, Part II. The charges relate to equipment, training and supervision. There are four counts under 148(1) of the Canada Labour Code. As our honour roll sadly confirms, there has always been -- and sadly will continue to be deadly threats to police officers. The safety of our employees in doing this dangerous job, protecting the public, is always our priority. RCMP representatives have advised the families of Constables Gevaudan, Larche and Ross of this recent development in this tragic matter that still remains painfully vivid for everyone in the RCMP family.
