Market players are generally reliant on the growth and condition of their buyers' businesses, and are often dependent on a small number of large customers. However, market players are often vertically integrated companies that design and manufacture products and offer after-sales service. Consequently, contracts are often long-term, which can result in switching costs for buyers. Inputs to the sector are varied and can usually be sourced from a range of suppliers. However, for certain specialized components, market players will often rely on a sole supplier. The loss of such a supplier can have an adverse effect on the market players' business and thus strengthens supplier power.
