    ADVANTAGE MPPT TECHNOLOGY VS PWM

    MPPT FUNCTION EXPLANATION

Unlike a standard PWM regulator which lowers voltage panel at voltage battery based on the thresholds of voltage define per his charge algorithm, a MPPT regulator (converter/regulator) uses all panels voltage and reconvert the excess of voltage panel/battery in charge intensity (cf. patterns below)

UNIMPPT research in real time (refresh every 100 ms, one of the fastest MPPT solar charge controller

among on the market), the optimum power point of panel, thus verifying if the voltage /intensity couple

has changed to modify its conversion parameters in input and thus to optimize the out power.

ADVANTAGE TECHNOLOGY MPPT VS PWM (CONTINUE)

MPPT GAIN A MPPT OVER PWM

The voltage of a photovoltaic solar panel varies according to its temperature: its voltage decreases when the temperature rises and vice versa. This standard value called temperature coefficient is given for a cell temperature of 25°C. Example: a panel that displays +/-0.34%/°C, therefore means that its Vmp voltage must be corrected by -0.34% per cell degree above 25°C. As shown in the example below, which highlights the voltage variations due to temperature and voltage drops due to the cable, a UNIMPPT charge controller allows a GPM (Average Production Gain) of 20% in summer and up to 40% in winter. We also note that the more the battery is discharged and/or the panel voltage is high, the greater the advantage of an MPPT over a PWM is.

    COMPATIBILITY PANEL

UNIMPPT is Buck Synchrone technology. It converts panel voltage in lower value voltage for the 12V or 24V battery. Generator powered on happens is if the PV voltage (Voc) exceeds the battery voltage more than +5V.

The charger will turn off when voltage PV (Voc) will be less than Vbat +1V.

Theoretical and actual power of a solar panel

The production data for solar panel are given according to Standard Test Conditions (STC): 1000W/m²

solar radiation, cell temperature at 25°C.

In summer in France, the panel temperature is quickly between 50 and 70°C and the solar radiation is 850W/m².

As the table below shows, in France, a 300 Wc peak panel will produce a maximum of 200W.

    TECHNICAL ADVICES BEFORE CONNEXION

Before connection, please consult the following points:

    BATTERY

UNIMPPT has an automatic voltage detection. For its correct functioning, please check:

    - the battery voltage is higher than 6V (required voltage for the startup of the solar charge controller)

    - For 24V batteries, the voltage cannot be lower than 18V.

For flooded batteries, check the electrolyte level. If necessary, complete before charging.

For coupling, proceed as follows: In series In Parallel In Series and in Parallel

    PHOTOVOLTAIC PANELS

The maximum open circuit PV voltage of the panel(s) in series (Voc) must not exceed 100V.

Higher voltage may damage your regulator. Damage not covered by warranty. Its charging current is 40 or 60 A at 12V and 24V. If the input value is exceeded, UNIMPPT will limit its output power to this value without damaging the controller

Some advice For parallel connection, use diagonal wiring for load/discharge uniformity.

Do not pair batteries of different ages or

    different technologies

With equal capacity prefer a high capacity battery, with 2 small connected in parallel.

TEST UNIMPPT determines the daily health and charge status of your battery

and sets the steps and charge levels necessary to maintain your battery.

    2

    BOOST CHARGE

    (I)

UNIMPPT uses 100% of the energy from the solar panel, until the

    voltage reaches the equalization voltage.

The battery is then 80% charged.

    ALGOTECK LOAD CURVE (CONTINUED)

REGULATION OF THE CHARGING CURVE ACCORDING TO BATTERY TECHNOLOGY

For perfect charging of all lead-acid batteries, Unimppt adapts its charging curve to the selected "battery

    technology:

    Liquid" Battery Mode:

Liquid electrolyte batteries require a higher charge to avoid stratification of the electrolyte. Stratification

is a non-homogeneous mixture of electrolyte. The acid is concentrated at the bottom and the water has

a lower density at the top. This can lead to freezing or oxidation of the plates. To avoid this

phenomenon, Unimppt carries out, in "Liquid" battery mode, an absorption charge which mixes the

electrolyte, essential to preserve the life of your battery. Equalisation charging is also possible.

Battery mode "AGM" / "GEL" Battery mode:

Waterproof batteries (AGM or GEL) require a precise control of the charge voltage to avoid bleeding

phenomenons. Bleeding is an electrochemical reaction that leads to the release of oxygen and hydrogen

gases inside the battery when the battery voltage reaches a point named "gasification voltage".

This voltage changes according to the type of the batteries (AGM or GEL). Depending on the selected

mode, Unimppt releases a voltage level adapted to the technology of your battery for a recharge up to

    100%.

    External temperature control

The chemical characteristics of the battery vary depending on the surrounding temperature. using its Unisensor remote temperature sensor, Unimppt precisely adapts its charging voltage to a reference temperature of 25°C, +/- 10mV (+/-30mV at 24V per °C), which avoids overcharging and undercharging your battery.

    INTEGRATED PROTECTIONS

For safe use, UNIMPPT has many built-in protections that protect the regulator and battery:

    - Reverse polarity protection and panel short circuits, - Battery polarity reversal protection (fuse),

    - Thermal protection
