Osman Kassim (Chairman)

Osman Kassim is a well versed personality in Islamic banking & �nance and was instrumental in introducing the non-interest based concept of �nance to Sri Lanka with the setting up of Amãna Investments in 1997, whose assets and liabilities were later on transferred to Amãna Bank PLC in 2011. He also sits on the Board of Amãna Takaful PLC, the �rst Islamic insurance company in Sri Lanka, as a founder Director.

With over 40 years of senior management experience, Kassim was also the founder Chairman of the well-established Expolanka Group of Companies which is engaged in diverse business activities. He currently sits on the Board of Expolanka as a Non-Executive Director.

He is also the Chairman of Asia Paci�c Institute of Information Technology (APIIT) Sri Lanka, set up in collaboration with APIIT Malaysia and the Chairman of Vidullanka PLC, a leading provider of renewable energy to the National Grid. He is also a Director of Aberdeen Holdings (Pvt) Ltd.

He holds an Honorary Doctorate from the Sta�ordshire University in recognition of his achievements as both a global entrepreneur and visionary educationalist. Furthermore, he sits on the Boards of various other companies both locally and overseas.

Tyeab Akbarally (Deputy Chairman and Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director)

Tyeab Akbarally is a senior Director of Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd and its subsidiary companies for the past 30 years. Akbar Brothers (Pvt) Ltd is a diversi�ed group of companies and is the leading Tea export company which have won many prestigious awards for their export performances. He has served as a member of the executive committee and as a committee member at the national chamber of commerce. He has also been the Chairman of the Spice & Allied Products Traders’ Association and Colombo Tea Traders’ Association. He has considerable experience in the import and export trade and has strong business relationships with the Middle Eastern Countries. Tyeab Akbarally also holds directorship in other public quoted companies.

Dr A A M Haroon (Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director)

Dr. A.A.Mohamed Haroon is a graduate of King Edward Medical College; Lahore, Pakistan. Dr. Haroon is also the Chairman of Lucky Group of Companies which is engaged in the manufacturing and export of readymade garments and textiles, real estate development and health care. He was the President of the Sri Lanka - Pakistan Friendship Association and the Memon Association of Sri Lanka. Dr. Haroon practices as a Family Physician in Colombo. He is also a Panel Doctor for foreign airlines, foreign missions and Hotel Taj Samudra, and is a Council Member of the Medical Practitioners’ Association.

Harsha Amarasekera (Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director)

Mr Harsha Amarasekera, President Counsel is a leading Lawyer in Sri Lanka having a wide practice in the Original Courts as well as in the Appellate Courts, specializing in Commercial Law, Business Law, Securities Law, Banking Law and Intellectual Property Law. He also serves as an Independent Director in several listed companies in the Colombo Stock Exchange including CIC Holdings PLC (Chairman), Chemanex PLC (Chairman), Vallibel Once PLC, Royal Ceramics Lanka PLC, Expolanka Holdings PLC, Chevron Lubricants Lanka PLC, Keells Food Products PLC, Amaya Leisure PLC & Vallibel Power Erathna PLC. He is also the Chairman of CIC Agri Business (Private) Limited.

Mohamed Jazri Magdon Ismail (Non-Executive, Independent Director) Mohamed Jazri Magdon Ismail is a Financial Consultant and the current Vice President of AAT Srilanka. He has served on the Directorate of Alhambra Hotels Limited, the Owners and Operators of Holiday Inn Colombo. He is a Fellow of �e Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka and is a Member of the Institute of Certi�ed Management Accountants, Australia. He is a Nominee of the ICASL on the Governing Council of the Association of Accounting Technicians of Sri Lanka, of which he is also a Fellow Member.

Wahid Ali Mohd Khalil (Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director)

Wahid Ali Mohd Khalil was the former Chief Operating O�cer, Business Support, of Bank Islam, Malaysia prior to his retirement in 2014. He holds a Master of Science in Economic Crime Management and Bachelor of Economics in Business Management. He is a Member of the Institute of Bankers Malaysia (MIBM) and an Associate Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors Malaysia (AIIA). He is also a member of the Financial Planning Association of Malaysia (FPAM) and the Federation of Malaysian Unit Trust Managers (FMUTM). He joined Bank Islam as the Chief Internal Auditor in 2007. Prior to joining Bank Islam, he spent 5 years at A�n Bank Berhad handling various portfolios, including as Chief Internal Auditor, Director, Banking Operations and Services, as well as Group Head of Operation Risk Management. He also spent more than 20 years in HSBC Bank holding various positions which included stints at Branches, Head O�ce Departments such as Credit Cards, Credit Control, Credit Administration and Trade Finance, as well as Deputy Head of Internal Audit.

Haseeb Ullah Siddiqui (Non-Executive, Non-Independant Director)

Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director Haseebullah Siddiqui is currently serving as Lead Specialist, Financial Sector Development & Inclusion, at the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). He brings over twenty years of broad experience in banking, project �nance, strategy consulting and development, with leading organizations like American Express Bank, Riyad Bank, Ernst & Young, and the IDB. At IDB, he currently focuses on regulatory reforms and capacity building to improve �nancial sector enabling environment, and strengthening micro�nance supply-side and governance frameworks to promote �nancial inclusion. He is also responsible for IDB’s collaboration with World Bank and the IMF for development of �nancial sector.

He also serves on the Technical Committee of the Islamic Financial Services Board (IFSB) and on the board of International Islamic Financial Market (IIFM). He has represented IDB as a board member in Jaiz Bank (Nigeria). Prior to joining IDB, Haseeb was part of an award-winning advisory team at E&Y Bahrain, focusing on public sector development, infrastructure & social housing. In the private sector, he advised banks, investment funds, private equity and mortgage companies, assisting several boards and C-suite management in strategy, capital raising and establishing organizations. To manage a strategic relationship, he was asked to lead the Waqf Fund at Central Bank of Bahrain, charged with developing the Islamic �nancial sector in Bahrain. Prior to consulting, he spent 9 years in corporate banking and project �nance, arranging syndicated �nancing for oil & gas, petrochemical, water, power, and agriculture sectors. He holds an MBA (Finance) from University of Missouri, and a BBA (Marketing & Economics) from Kansas State University.

Faheemul Huq (Non-Executive, Non-Independent Director)

Faheemul Huq is a Senior Associate in Huq & Company (1997 – to date). He holds a Barrister-at-Law (England & Wales) and is an Advocate (Supreme Court of Bangladesh); He has been enrolled in the Appellate division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh, Member, the Honourable Society of Lincoln's Inn, Member Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association (1998) and Member, Dhaka Bar Association Bangladesh (1997). Areas of practice are corporate, banking, labour law, contract, shipping, energy, VAT, customs, taxation, constitution and international arbitration. He has been a legal advisor of many local and international companies. He is a senior member of the litigation and arbitration team and represented international development agencies before the Courts of Bangladesh and completed projects for World Bank, IFC and other development agencies.

Rajiv Nandlal Dvivedi (Non-Executive, Independent Director)

Non-Executive, Independent Director Rajiv Nandlal Dvivedi is currently the CEO of Eagle Investments Limited, a privately owned Investment and Advisory �rm based in Dubai. He has over 40 years of commercial and Investment banking, Corporate �nance, and Investments experience. He spent 35 years at Citibank in various senior executive positions: 28 years in commercial and investment banking, corporate �nance and risk management in the Middle East and 7 years in Consumer Banking with Citibank in New York, USA. In addition to Amãna Bank, he currently sits on the Board of China Rapid Finance (China), Harvest Network (China), Accordion Partners (USA), Candor Group of Companies (Sri Lanka), and Eagle Investments Limited (UAE). He holds a MBA in Finance, Long Island University, New York, USA.

Dilshan Hettiaratchi (Non-Executive, Independent Director)

Dilshan Hettiaratchi is a Partner/ Managing Director of Faber Capital Limited which is an investment banking �rm headquartered in Dubai. �e �rm specializes in Capital Markets, Renewable Energy and Advisory opportunities. He has over 25 years of banking/Financial Markets experience. Prior to joining Faber Capital, he was the Managing Director and Head of Debt Capital Markets – MENA and Pakistan for Standard Chartered Bank. In this role he advised many high pro�le issuers from the Middle East such as the Government of Dubai, �e Government of Ras Al Khaimah and other Corporates and Financial Institutions from the ME region to tap the International Bond and Sukuk markets. Prior to joining SCB, he worked with Citi National Investment Bank, which was the investment banking arm of Citibank and NDB based in Colombo, as well as at Waldock Mackenzie Limited which was the investment banking arm of John Keells Holdings. He is a Director of Asset Trust Management Limited, which is a SEC regulated Asset Management Company. He was also a Steering Committee member of the Gulf Bond and Sukuk Association (GBSA), and the Chair of the Government Bond issuance committee in 2011. He has been a speaker/panelist at a number of industry conferences in Debt Markets over the last few years. He holds a MBA from the University of Colombo, is a CFA Charter Holder and is an ACMA.

Mohamed Azmeer

Mohamed Azmeer took over the leadership of the Bank in June 2014. Prior to that, as the Bank’s Chief Operating O�cer, he was overseeing the business functions of the Bank’s Consumer, SME, Corporate and Treasury divisions. Before joining Amãna Bank, Azmeer had gained signi�cant exposure to conventional and Islamic banking through his illustrious career, both locally and internationally, which spans over 30 years.

Having commenced a career in banking at Commercial Bank of Ceylon, Azmeer’s leadership progression and banking intuitiveness was a result of his overseas experience, primarily at Citibank, UAE, where he had gained the unique experience of both business and risk aspects of banking, having overseen such operations at senior levels. During such tenure, he also carried out many overseas assignments to countries such as UK, India and Kenya, where he acquainted himself to the di�erent dynamics and challenges speci�c to each business and region. At the culmination of his career at Citibank he held the position of Vice President – Risk for UAE and Oman. Azmeer’s experience also includes ‘start-ups’ where he was a founder member of the erstwhile Dubai Bank which was established at the direction of the Dubai Government.

Azmeer’s journey towards Islamic banking was a result of him wanting to have this nascent but people friendly concept accepted and embraced by a wider audience. In the �eld of Islamic banking, Azmeer’s track record involved holding senior positions at Al-Rajhi Bank Saudi Arabia, the largest and leading Islamic Bank in the world and Sharjah Islamic Bank, a pioneering bank in UAE and the �rst Islamic bank in the world to fully convert its operations from being a conventional entity, in which he was an Executive Vice President.

Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani (Chairman) Dr. Muhammad Imran Ashraf Usmani is a M. Phil, Ph. D. in Islamic Economics and graduated as scholar from Jamia Darul-Uloom, Karachi and did specialization course in Islamic Jurisprudence. He is also involved in conducting training sessions for Meezan Bank sta� in Islamic �nance and Shariah issues. Dr. Usmani has been teaching at several branches of Islamic learning since 1998 at Jamia Darul-Uloom, Karachi. He is also a visiting faculty member of Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Karachi. He also holds the position of Sharia Advisor at UBS (Switzerland), Mashreq Bank PSC (Dubai), Ihilal.com (Dubai); Future Growth Equity Fund (South Africa), Meezan Bank (Pakistan) and is a member of the Shariah Supervisory Board of Guidance Financial Group (USA).

Ash-Sheikh Ustad Mohd Nazri Bin Chik (Vice Chairman)

Mohd Nazri Chik is the General Manager/Head of Shariah Division, Bank Islam Malaysia. He holds a Master Degree in Shariah from University of Malaya and started his career as a tutor in the university until he joined Bank Islam in June 2004. He le� the Bank to join Noor Investment Group, Dubai UAE in September 2009 as its Shariah Audit Manager. During this time, he has been appointed as a member of Bank Islam’s Shariah Supervisory Council until he rejoined the Bank as its Head of Shariah in January 2011. He is also the Deputy Chairman, Shariah Supervisory Council of Amana Bank Limited, Sri Lanka; External Shariah Advisor of Ghazanfar Bank, Afghanistan; Accredited Panel of Finance Accreditation Agency (“FAA”); Member of Professional Practices Bureau, Association of Shariah Advisors and Accredited Trainer for Islamic Banking and Finance Institute of Malaysia. In May 2014, he was selected as the recipient of the “Promising Young Banker Award 2014” by the Asian Banker magazine.

Ash-Sheik M M A Mubarak Ash-Sheik M M A Mubarak is the former President and present General Secretary of the All Ceylon JamiyyathulUlema. He is a highly learned and respected scholar who holds a Bachelor of Islamic Law (Sharia) Degree from the Islamic University of Madina Al Munawwara, Saudi Arabia. He is a retired Principal of Sri Lanka's leading Arabic College - Al-Ghafooria Arabic College of Sri Lanka and is the present Chairman of Ash- ShaikhBinbaaz Muslim Ladies Arabic College of Malwana, Sri Lanka.

Ash-Sheik Mufti M I M Rizwe

Ash-Sheik Mu�i M I M Rizwe is the President of the All Ceylon JamiyyathulUlema and is a highly respected scholar and speaker from Sri Lanka. He is a graduate of JamiyyathulUloomilIslamiya, Karachi where he specialized in Islamic Jurisprudence. He is a Senior Lecturer of the reputed KulliyathulRashard Arabic College, Colombo and visiting lecturer at several leading Arabic colleges. He has been lecturing on Hadees and other subjects for more than a decade. He is a Member of the Board and Advisor to 'JamiyyahIslamiyya' at Nimal Road, Colombo, the �rst Arabic College established for students in the English Language. He is also a member of the Supreme Council of Congress of Religions and the present President of the SAARC Halaal Council. He is also a member of Shariah Councils of several Islamic Banks and Financial Institutions in Sri Lanka and Maldives.

Ash-Sheik Mufti Muhammad Hassan KaleemAsh-Sheik Mu�i Muhammad Hassan Kaleem is a permanent faculty member of JamiahDarul-Uloom Karachi (a leading Institute of Islamic Sciences in Pakistan) and the Center of Islamic Economics, Karachi. He is also a trainer of Sharia standards at the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI), Bahrain and a visiting faculty member of the National Institute of Banking and Finance (State Bank of Pakistan). Muhammad Hassan Kaleem is a Sharia Board member of Pak Kuwait Takaful Company Limited, Pak Qatar Family Takaful, Deloitte (Global Islamic Finance Team), Siraj UBL Funds, Hanover Re Takaful Bahrain and Takaful Emirate and has served many years as a Sharia Advisor to Al Baraka Islamic Bank (Pakistan Operations) and various Sukuk issues. He is also a member of the committee for revising the Takaful rules 2005, formed by Security & Exchange Commission of Pakistan. He holds an Alimiyyah (Masters in Islamic Sciences) and Takhassus (Specialization in Fatwa) degree from Darul-Uloom, Karachi.
