BOP Energy MapAn Ayllu product, sponsored by The Center for Science, Technology, and Society (CSTS) at Santa Clara University

Funders and social enterprises have requested a centralized repository of information on BOP social enterprise. This project is the launch of an Energy Map, seeded by CSTS, that will be updated and expanded continually as the sector grows.

Since our 2009 launch we raised $105,000, built an incredible team, and are now delivering our first products for clients. We are seeking partners and funders for the Energy Map who will help us create sector transparency, impact, and maturity.

AYLLU provides updated, centralized information so social enterprises, investors, and supporters can make more informed, efficient decisions. We map social enterprises across sectors and geographies to collect and synthesize fragmented information. We believe data transparency and effective practice sharing will drive better results.

Consistent Information Our approach is bottom up. Our IRIS-based survey method collects consistent data and qualitative information from each enterprise.

The survey is conducted by Ayllu, with support from CSTS and MBA candidates at the University of Michigan.

Comparative Analysis With consistent, reliable, and updated information, we have our finger on the pulse of the sector.

Interactive Reporting We’re building interactive online and offline tools to share the results of the Energy Map. Everyone has different needs, and customized information means users can easily find and digest what is most important to them. We share information in a way that goes beyond the PDF.

A Unique Approach

THE MISSING MIDDLE financing gap is a challenge with which both funders and social enterprises struggle when they seek to scale successful local initiatives.  The phenomenon describes the growth level in which enterprises surpass a seed-funding stage and need a range of financial resources--considered inefficient or costly for investors--to reach scale.

Dissecting the Missing MiddleAn Ayllu Product, contracted by Artemisia International

Funders and social enterprises have requested a centralized repository of information on BOP social enterprise. This project is the launch of Ayllu in India, and our database will be updated and expanded continually as the sector grows.

Since our 2009 launch we raised $105,000, built an incredible team, and are now delivering our first products for clients. We are seeking supporters and funders for the Missing Middle Map who will help us create sector transparency, impact, and maturity.

Ayllu is mapping 50 social enterprises in India, some who are currently in the “missing middle” and others who have successfully crossed this hurdle, as well as impact investors. Employing Ayllu’s IRIS based survey methodology (endorsed by CSTS at Santa Clara University) we are investigating the cause of financial constraints. We hope we enable the sector to learn and support each other more effectively.

Consistent Information Our approach is bottom up. Our IRIS-based survey methodology collects consistent data and qualitative information from each enterprise.

Comparative Analysis With consistent, reliable, updated information, we have our finger on the pulse of the sector.

Interactive Reporting We’re building interactive online and offline tools to share the results of the Energy Map. Everyone has different needs, and customized information means users can easily find and digest what is most important to them. We share information in a way that goes beyond the PDF.
