» Alma College is going green, and one such upgrade is the installation of several WILO Stratos high efficiency pumps, which ECM technology to modulate the pump speed or flow rate through hot and cold water systems according to demand. The campus currently has 12 of these pumps installed and is looking to install several more over the next year.

» Measurements taken on the kW draw of a single Stratos pump that replaced a larger circulator pump in the Oscar E. Remick Heritage Center, provides a glimpse into the electrical savings alone:

» In its pursuit of the newest technologies to reduce energy consumption, a US Military facility chose to investigate the benefits of high efficiency pumping technology that combines ECM motors and variable speed drive pumps for water circulation.

» Stratos pumps were installed in the cooling system in barracks 1506, while the 1511 building’s cooling system remained unchanged. Power consumption for both the new and existing pumps were metered over a 35 day period to compare energy consumption. E-Mon electric meters were utilized for the analysis, measuring the kWh consuming during the period from September 16, 2010 through October 22, 2010.

» Based on the measured and extrapolated data, the following results were observed: see above chart

» The Wilo Stratos demonstrated 88% energy savings when compared

to the 3HP constant speed pump. These results are similar to experiments conducted in Europe since Wilo premiered the Stratos in 2001. As an added bonus, the base was able to turn off a 25HP pump in the main plant due to decreased flow requirements from the oversized 3HP pump.

» In response to a request to perform a mixer energy audit, Wilo visited Stamford, CT WWTP on May 11, 2012 to demonstrate the potential energy savings of a TR75-2.19-6/16 mixer in comparison to a Flygt 4640.410 mixer. Both mixers were installed in the same basin at the treatment facility, and energy readings were taken using a Fluke 1735 power logger.

» Based on data collected on site in this side by side comparison the Wilo TR75-2.19-6/16 mixer exhibited a potential 71% energy savings over the Flygt 4660.410 mixer.

» In response to a request to perform a mixer energy audit, Wilo visited Annapolis, MD WWTP on January 20, 2011 to demonstrate the potential energy savings of a Wilo Wilo TR50-2.33-6/8 mixer in comparison to a Flygt 4640.410 mixer. Both mixers were installed in the same basin at the treatment facility, and energy readings were taken using a Fluke 1735 power logger.

» Based on data collected on site in this side by side comparison the Wilo TR50-2.33-6/8 mixer exhibited a potential 34% energy savings over the Flygt 4640.410 mixer.
