Why Buy ENERGY STAR?

Save energy• ENERGY STAR qualified bulbs and fixtures use about

75% less energy and produce about 75% less heat than standard incandescent models.

High quality performance • ENERGY STAR qualified fixtures are designed around

the light source (GU-24 base), which:– Distributes light more evenly than standard fixtures– Provides the right fit so the bulb hides easily behind

the fixture glass

Save without sacrifice• Qualified light fixtures are available in hundreds of decorative styles—including

portable and hard-wired options.• Some models feature dimming, automatic daylight shut-off, and motion sensors.

ENERGY STARLight Fixtures

Using a screw-base CFL in a standard fixture is not the same as choosing an ENERGY STAR qualified fixture for your home.

• Qualified light fixtures are typically purchased as a complete new fixture that includes the CFL bulb.

• Qualified light fixtures primarily use CFLs with a GU-24 "Twist and Lock" base, and distribute light more efficiently and evenly than standard fixtures.

Then: Once was a source used only in linear fixtures and utility-type applications…Now: Includes bulbs compact enough to be used in functional and decorative fixtures in every room in the home.

Then: Once was a source that produced a poor color of light, sometimes called cold, harsh, “green” or “blue” light…Now: Available in soft warm colors that make all of the objects in a room appear just like they would under incandescent lighting

Then: Once was a source that always flickered for several seconds after turning on the switch, and buzzed when operating…Now: Available as “instant-start” (less than 1 sec) and operates quietly

Saving Energy Helps Protect the Environment

FACT:

If every American home replaced their five most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ENERGY STAR qualified models, we would save close to $8 billion each year in energy costs, and prevent the greenhouse gases equivalent to the emissions from nearly 10 million cars.

15

Saving Energy = Saving Money

• Replacing a home’s five most frequently used light fixtures or the bulbs in them with ENERGY STAR qualified models can save $70 a year in electricity costs.

• The amount saved in energy costs throughout the product’s lifetime

more than makes up for any difference in the initial fixture cost.

ENERGY STAR qualified products use less energy and cost less to operate resulting in:
