Prayer for the week
Heavenly Father, thank you for your goodness to us this autumn, for the beauty of your creation andcolours of this turning seasons. Amen
Welcome back from half term and guess what an inspector calls.
Well, one cannot complain of an uneventful week. Not when inspectors from OFSTED arrive to carry outthe school’s three yearly statutory care inspection of our boarding provision against the NationalMinimum Standards. I was just settling in to a meeting at Roundwood Park School with the HarpendenHead Teachers when my mobile phone started to ring at 08.40am indicating that Mrs Bainbridge wastrying to contact me, which only meant one thing, we had received the phone call. Whilst we had beenexpecting the call since the start of the year the anticipation and apprehension are a little inescapableand in some ways it is a relief to finally get the call and to be given the opportunity to share ourwonderful school with others, even when you know their purpose is to judge your performance.
So from 12.30pm on Tuesday until 13.00pm on Thursday we were host to three Ofsted Social Careinspectors who pored over every aspect of boarding, care and welfare in the school, telephoneinterviewed numerous boarding parents, met with staff, boarders and senior leaders, peered in toevery ‘nook and cranny’, immersing themselves in our boarding experience and emerged bothenergised and complimentary, most especially about the positive atmosphere created by the boardersthemselves which they described as warm, homely and welcoming. Until the report is finished its qualityassurance journey through Ofsted and published I am not able to share the findings in any detail but Ican say that I am delighted with the conduct and indicated outcome of the inspection, which is largelyand mainly down to the Boarding House staff and boarders great team work.
Hopefully in the next few weeks I will be able to share the final report with you. In the meantime I wouldlike to thank all the staff, parents and boarders and the day pupils, who were also observed and spokento by members of the inspection team, for their contribution to the inspection as well as their unfailingexcellent behaviour and attitude at all times. I would like to give special mention to Mr Jon Timmins our
