What do we do?Why does it matter?

    The Enfield

    Talking Newspaper

    is a lifeline to

    blind and partially

    sighted people in

    Enfield. For manylisteners ETN is

We provide a free weekly news tape to

300 blind and partially sighted listenersin Enfield. To some listeners we offer

companionship, to others we are simply

a source of useful information. To all we

provide a valuable service, as ListenerRepresentative Diane de Jersey explains:

Contact us by email - [email protected]

their only source of local news. The

    Whats On section is particularly

    popular, providing information about

    local events.

We are are able to produce the Enfield TalkingNewspaper due to the kind support of RoyalMail, who deliver our tape each week freeof charge. Enfield Council provides us withspace to record and produce the tape. TheEditors of our local newspapers allow us to

use their articles and our 40 regular volunteersgive their time free of charge, producing nearly20,000 tapes each year.

Thanks to this generosity, it costs as little as10p per edition to produce the Enfield TalkingNewspaper. However, these costs are rising,

as technology to speed-duplicate so manycassettes becomes more costly to maintain.

We want to move todigital production(using memory sticksinstead of tapes). We are raising

funds to purchasenew technologyand provide eachlistener with a suitable

    player device.

The majority of our listeners live on a

fixed income. We do not want to impose acharge for the service we provide. We relyon the generous support of individuals andcommunity organisations to continue ourwork. Please support our work if you caneither by making an individual donation orsupporting us as your Charity of the Month.
