Ply Gem Engineered Plank

Installation Requirements- Primed & Pre Finished Products

Storage:

Store Material Flat and covered prior to installation. Ply Gem is not responsible for damage caused by improper storage of the product

Cutting Instructions:

Cut siding with fine tooth carbide tipped saw blade

General Requirements:

• Engineered Plank Siding can be installed over wood or steel studs spaced 16’’ o.c or directly to 7/16 OSB sheathing orequivalent. Please note: Ply Gem is not liable for any inconsistencies in framing and sheathing which can potentially lead to siding mirroring these variations on the wall.

• A Water resistive barrier is required in accordance with local building code requirements. Please Note: Ply Gem will assume no responsibility for water infiltration.

• Adjacent finished grade must slope away from the building in accordance with local Building codes, typically aminimum of 6’’ in the first 10’

• Minimum ¼’’ Clearance must be maintained between siding and finished grade

Fastener Requirements:Note: Stainless Steel and/or quality Hot Dipped Galvanized Fasteners are recommended when installing Ply Gem Engineered Plank; Stainless Steel Fasteners are recommended when installing Ply Gem Engineered Plank near the ocean, or in very humid climates. Additionally, BLIND NAILING is the preferred method of installation for Ply Gem Engineered Plank

Pneumatic Fastening:

When using Pneumatic fastener, set air pressure so that the fastener is driven snug with the surface of the siding

Painting of Primed Plank:

100% High Quality Exterior acrylic topcoats are recommended Do NOT paint product when wet Please refer to paint manufactures specifications

CAULKING:

For best Results use an Elastomeric Joint Sealant complying with ASTM C920 Grade NS, Class 25 or higher or aLatex Joint Sealant complying with ASTM C834.

Caulking/sealant must be applied in accordance with the caulking/sealant manufactures written instructions

Clearance and Flashing Requirements:

- Roof to Wall Clearance: Minimum ¼’’- Siding to Hardscape Clearance (concrete, decks, porches, etc): Minimum ¼’’- Joint Flashing Required at Butt Joints. Examples of Common joint flashing: Durable, waterproof materials such as : Alum

Ply Gem Engineered Plank Installation Instructions

Determine Location for Starter Strip:

- Determine Location of lowest corner on Home- Measure up 1 – ½’’ and snap line for panel starter. This line represents the top edge of the starter

Install Accessories:

- Install Trim at corners and windows- Install window flashings (per Window Manufacture Spec)- Measure and cut 1 ½’’ of plank to use as a starter. If preferred, you can use treated lumber, 3/8’’ x 1 ½’’ as starter.

Attach Starter Strip: - Attach starter using 8d 2’’ long ring shank corrosion-resistant nails every 8’’

- Ensure the starter is level

First Course

- Align bottom of the Plank with the bottom edge of starter and nail into Studs using 8d 2’’ longring shank corrosion resistant nails, 1’’ down from the top of the plank

- Ensure that Plank is level- Continue installing plank in the first course (1 inch down from top of plank).- Add joint flashing and butt the ends of each plank- When reaching corner, window, accessories or any other vertical termination point, leave 1/8’’

gap and caulk.

Joint Flashing

- When Butting two planks together, attach flashing (4’’ x 8’’) beneath Planks at joint- Examples of Common joint flashing: Durable, waterproof materials such as: Alum Coil Stock

and code compliant Water-resistive Barriers

Second Course

- Measure up 7’’ from top of the first course and mark alignment line for the top of the secondcourse. This spacing will allow 1 ¼’’ Plank overlap and 7’’ coverage per course

- Align top of second course with alignment line. Measure 1’’ down from the top of the secondcourse, and nail every 16’’. Add joint flashing at butt joints

Third and Subsequent Courses:

- Cut the first Plank to the desired length, measure up 7’’ from top of previous course, align plank,level and nail (1 inch down from the top of plank)

- Continue on this manner, ensuring that planks are level and butting Plank to previous Plank incourse – adding joint flashing at this detail.

- When reaching corner, window, accessories or any other vertical termination point, leave 1/8’’gap and caulk.

- Please note: Quite common and acceptable to caulk below windows/bottom piece of windowtrim, freeze boards, band boards, soffit, etc...

Top Course:

- Measure up from bottom of previous course into top trim- Subtract 7’’ and cut Plank to this width- Use 1 ½’’ wide plank at top of finish course as furring strip- Butt the plank to the top trim and nail into furring strip
