Applications for UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships Close 30 September 2017. Only one application form is required for all of the above Rural Scholarships.

The UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships ProgramEngineering is a prestigious profession that applies technology to solve problems. It is essential for a nation’s future development as it creates wealth and employment, thereby increasing living standards throughout our societies.

Rural students frequently have a strong interest in engineering areas but are not able to study close to their home as rural universities generally do not provide engineering education. The UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships Program is designed to assist students living in rural and isolated areas to study at a leading Engineering Faculty in Australia.

A large number of scholarships valued at $12,000pa tax free for four years are available for rural students to undertake one of more than 20 full-time engineering programs. Many of these scholarships have been made possible by the generosity of private and industry donors to enable rural students to fulfil their potential.

The 2018 UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships Program includes: 9 UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships – Programs as listed on page 4 of the brochure

9 Women in Engineering Rural Scholarship – Programs as listed on page 4 of the brochure

9 Luciano Ferracin Memorial Rural Engineering Scholarship – Programs as listed on page 4 of the brochure

9 Mitsubishi Rural Scholarship in Mining Engineering

9 The Ian Burgess and Barbara Burgess Memorial Rural Engineering Scholarship – Programs as listed on page 4 of the brochure

9 The Bernard William Gould Memorial Scholarship in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering or Civil Engineering with Architecture

9 Graham Painton Rural Engineering Scholarship in Electrical Engineering and Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering

Some of the donor sponsored scholarships MAY include an invitation to undertake work experience during the summer vacation periods. If this option is available this will be made clear at the interview.

9 You must be completing the New South Wales HSC or equivalent examination this year, or have undertaken a one or two year Gap year (but you may not have commenced tertiary study);

9 You need to have a superior record of involvement and achievement in school activities and community affairs;

9 You should expect to achieve an ATAR (including EAS bonus points or equivalent) of 92 or more in your HSC or equivalent examination;

* Rural areas will generally be considered according to the Australian Standard Geographical Classification – Remoteness Areas. Please use this website as a guide to checking the geographic classification of your home/school address. To be eligible for the UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarship Program, you must be classed as RA2 (with the exception of Hobart which will be considered a major city of Australia for our purposes), RA3, RA4 or RA5. Students whose family home is located in RA2 to RA5, but who have received a scholarship to attend a RA1 (or Hobart) boarding school are also eligible to apply.

Academic requirements for a UNSW Engineering Rural scholarshipWe are looking for students with good academic ability in mathematics, english and science. If you think you have a chance of achieving an ATAR (including EAS bonus points or equivalent) of 92 or more, then you will satisfy the minimum academic requirement for an UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarship in some of our programs.

Please note however that a number of programs e.g. Civil with Architecture and some dual degrees (Commerce, Law, BE/ME) will require you to achieve a higher ATAR.

Other requirements for award of an UNSW Engineering Rural ScholarshipHaving achieved that academic standard, students are selected for UNSW Engineering Rural Scholarships largely on the basis of their personal skills and motivation, as well as their non-academic achievements. Students need to be involved in school and community activities, to have shown leadership and initiative, and to have excellent communication skills. Financial circumstances are also considered.
