Your Challenge Today?

Making a Speaker

Making a Speaker...with Plates

=

Your MaterialsPlates (styrofoam, paper), Bowls (styrofoam), and Cups (styrofoam)Masking Tape2 Neodymium Magnets (½” diameter x ½” height)1 Neodymium Magnet (½” diameter x ⅛” height)Magnet Wire (32 gauge)Index cardRulerScissorsAAA BatteryInstruction Manual created by ExCITe Center MET-Lab

Your Goals

1. Build a speaker that can play sound from an MP3 player when connected to an amplifier.

2. Refine and redesign the speaker to improve volume, clarity, and range of sounds produced.

3. Communicate your process and progress to judges.

Please Consider Safety

When you touch the battery to the wire for testing, be aware that heat may be given off.

The magnets are VERY powerful.● Keep away from credit cards and electronic devices.● Try not to get pinched when magnets snap together.● Magnets may shatter if they snap together quickly.
