LAB FACILITIES

• SZABIST Engineering Workshop Lab is equipped with all the

modern tools and machines that are essential in engineering

practices and trades such as wood-working, metal-working,

machine shop, welding shop and foundry.

• The workshop practice course is not limited to the machines

and tools that are physically available in the lab, but also gives

students insight about the machines and tools that are being

used in the current industry.

• The workshop lab has all the safety requirements such as Fire

Extinguishers, fire exit, basic first aid kit and paramedic staff

located at 100 campus for minor injuries.

• Wood working

• Development of thread shaft on Lathe

• Slotting using Milling Machine

• Demonstration of plastic injection

• Understanding function of casting using

muffle furnace.

• Electronics Shop (PCB Making)

• Designing of Printed Circuit Board (PCB)

Layout of software

• Etching the layout on actual PCB.

• Soldering of components


LIST OF EXPERIMENTS


• Introduction to wooden tools and their

names used in local market and internet

• Create basic wooden object using wood

cutting saw, rough and smooth file.

• Create a block and make slots using a

chisel and hole using a drill machine.

• Develop a Lap and half lap joint and

understand tolerances and fits.

• Construct a wooden assembly using all the

wood working tools with fasteners.

• Create a basic V-joint using sheet metal and

make a hole and slot in the same.

• Understand welding techniques and

electrodes to create a corner and T-joint

on sheet metal.

• Create a threaded bolt with knurling using

lathe machine and tapping die.

• Understanding working of plastic injection

molding and create a SZABIST keychain.

• Design a circuit layout and etch it on PCB.

drivers, plier and spanners.

• Drilling Machines (Bench and Portable)


• Electric Arc welding machines (Inverter

and Transformer based)

• Bandsaw and Hacksaw cutting machine

• Injection molding and Muffle furnace.

• PCB Designing accessories such as PCB

drill, soldering iron, hot press and laser

printer.

INDUSTRIAL CNC LATHE WITH TURRET (HARDINGE CONQUEST 42)


This is a fully automated

CNC Lathe Machine with

multiple tool changer.

The program can be

directly written on the

NC Panel as well as

uploaded from PC.

The drawings are made

on AutoCAD which is

later converted into

GCODES for automated

operation.

DRILLING MACHINE


• Workshop lab is equipped

with upright drill machines

for precision work along

with a vice to hold the

part.

• Portable drill machines for

wood and PCB are also

available with different

sizes of bits.

ELECTRIC ARC WELDING MACHINE


• WE HAVE BOTH

TRANSFORMER AND

INVERTER BASED

ELECTRIC ARC WELDING

MACHINES WITH E6013

ELECTRODES.

• SAFETY EQUIPMENT IS

ALSO PROVIDED FOR

WELDING

BANDSAW & HACKSAW CUTTING MACHINE


• Multiply bandsaw machines

are available in the workshop

which makes it easier to cut

the wood, also saves time.

• Hacksaws are used for metal

cutting.

• These machines are always

operated under supervision.

INJECTION MOLDING & MUFFLE FURNACE


• Live demonstration is given

to the student about plastic

injection molding process

as well as casting of metal

in muffle furnace.

• The temperature of these

machines can go up to 500

- 1000° 𝐶

SAFETY MEASURES IN THE WORKSHOP LAB

• Safety of the students come first.

• For this purpose, workshop has a

Fire Exit along with fire

extinguishers due to electrical

short circuit.


LAB RULES FOR THE STUDENTS

• Lab coat and safety shoes are must for

any kind of work in the lab.

• Eye protection required during welding.

• Students are not allowed to eat in the

lab or throw wastage on the floor.

• Using machines without lab in-charge is

strictly prohibited.

• Be sure “FIRE EXIT” is open every time.

• All students must know where the

circuit breakers and fire extinguishers

are placed and should know how to

operate them incase of emergency.

• Appropriate safety rules are written near

all the machines, student should read

them before starting the machine.

• In case of any injury, please contact lab

in-charge immediately.
