English (Ms. Kayleigh Robinson)

In the first half of the term pupils will begin by learning how to hold a successful debate. They will focus on summarising information, making comparisons and discussing controversial issues which will lead nicely into them arguing a case from one point of view, giving a balanced report and expressing their ideas and opinions. Following on from this we will be exploring stories in different media including cartoon strips, graphic novels, manga and multimedia. We will look at how the same story can be accessible in a different format whilst exploring the features and techniques of different media. Students will be writing their own episodes in different media and translating from one medium to another. The second half of the term will be devoted to revision of the skills required for Checkpoint. The mock exam will happen in February with the final Checkpoint exam coming soon after the Spring Break holiday.

Mathematics (Ms. Pang Yi Chin and Mrs Karlie Walsh)

This term, we will be looking at handling data and presenting it in different forms, as well as collecting and analysing statistics. In number work, we will cover fractions, decimals and percentages; ratio and proportion; mental and written strategies for the four basic rules of number; and some of the laws of arithmetic, where brackets are used. In work on measures, we will look further at time zones and calendar problems as well as the area and perimeter of rectangles and of irregular shapes. In shape work, we will look at the properties of 3-D shapes and we will measure and construct angles. We will also spend some time revising earlier topics in readiness for the Checkpoint exams.

Science (Mrs. Nellie Wong)

This term, the students will begin with a new unit, which is on Forces and Motion (Unit 4). They will be introduced to several types of forces, namely air resistance, gravity, water upthrust and friction. The students will learn how each force acts and how it affects motion of objects. Before their checkpoint examination, the students will finish Year 6 syllabus with the topic on ‘Electrical conductors and insulators’. This topic includes identifying materials which are conductors or insulators, learning how to use circuit symbols as well as learning how changing electric components (either adding or removing) can affect the efficiency of the circuit. While going through these final units, revision on previously taught topics will be carried out simultaneously to prepare them for the Checkpoint examinations.

Humanities (Ms Hannah Warlow)

During the first part of this term, we will be studying certain aspects of World War 2. We will be looking at the range of countries involved in the conflict and at some of the reasons for the outbreak of war. We will look at the difficulties in trying to live a normal life as a child during this period. We will follow some of the main events of the war, including details of the resolution of the war, and will consider some of the consequences for the participating countries / leaders. Most of the work will cover the war in Europe but we will also include some details affecting other areas, including Asia. Later in the term, we will study ‘Earthquakes and Volcanoes’, including why these phenomena occur.

Computing (Mrs. Haniza Hussin)

This term, students will be able to learn about the benefits of sharing information online, but also about the safety and security risks of sharing certain types of information. They also will understand what type of information can put them at risk for identity theft and other scams, and how to distinguish between personal information, which is safe to share online, and private information, which is unsafe to share. Students will be able also to judge what it means to cross the line from harmless to harmful communication online, and how to generate solutions for dealing with cyberbullying. Computer networks basics will be introduced to the students this term, they will learn the advantages and types of networks. Students will continue developing their skills in information software.

Moral Studies (Mr. Jack Beattie)

In the first half-term, the students will learn about conflict management, how to resolve differences by looking at alternatives, making decisions and explaining choices. They will also explore how the media presents information. They will also consider caring for other people’s feelings and seeing things from others’ perspectives, helping them to realise the nature and consequences of racism, teasing, bullying and aggressive behaviours, and how to respond to them and ask for help. In the second half-term, the students will learn about elements of personal hygiene and how to take responsibility. They will learn about self-care and a basic hygiene routine. They will also be encouraged to express themselves positively and to feel proud of the way that they look and act. They will take responsibility for their bodies and their behaviour and they will also discover who to ask for support and how to find out more in a safe, sensible way.

Sejarah (Ms. Pattmagowri Munaindy))

The topic of focus for Year 6 this term will be ‘Famous Personalities in Malaysia’. Students will be learning about famous or notable Malaysians based on different categories (eg. Business, Designers, Inventors, Entertainers, Politicians and Sportspeople). The outline of activities for this term will be to focus on research, discussion, group work, projects and presentations, which will help the students to develop their interpersonal skills. The values of ‘Straits STAR’ will also be taught to them during the teaching and learning process.

Bahasa Malaysia (Ms. Sathiawathi Sinna Thamby and Ms. Shantiletchumi Sellapa)

This term we will be learning about Personal and Social life. The subtopic for the first half term is about self, family, family relationship and special occasions. In this subtopic, students will be learning about themselves (for example, ambition, their contribution toward the family etc) and the importance of family relationship. During the second half of the term, they will be learning about food, entertainments, pets and hobbies. In addition, students will be learning about Malaysian food and also they will be taught to debate based on the topic ‘The best entertainment for students’.

Islamic Studies {For Islamic students only} (Ms Aimi Aluwi and Ms Nassiha Halim)

This term, students will learn about belief in God's predestination. Predestination is a necessary factor in the Islamic faith. In Islam, predestination or fate means that God is the one who has destined everything that is happening in this universe (to human beings and everything). God knows what is happening or what will happen in the earth and in heaven. Nothing can happen without the knowing of God.

Advanced Mandarin (Ms. Soon Saw Imm)

During this term, students will improve their writing skills through expanding sentences and outlining practices. They will learn letter writing and reviewing five senses writing skills. The Chinese proverbs will enrich their writing. They will have oral lessons to improve their listening and speaking. There will be more interaction between teacher and student during the classes and small tests every few lessons to track their progress. To improve their reading skill, students will also learn how to use a Chinese dictionary. At the end of the term, students will be able to write compositions of around 150 words.

Intermediate Mandarin (Mrs. Pang Sook Yee)

In this term, students will be learning about verbs, transportation and furniture. The students will focus on developing their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through various classroom activities. Students will be able to understand key points and give personal responses from a short text with familiar language. Furthermore, they will be able to express themselves with increasing confidence, independence and creativity regarding the topics covered. Other than writing skills, the students will be expected to undertake oral tasks in pairs or in group discussions on given topics. Listening practice will be focused on vocabulary from the Chinese Made Easy CD in order to enhance listening skills. Other than oral speaking and listening, they will be assessed through stroke orders, written characters and phrase forming skills.

EAL (Ms Nurin Najmina)

This term, we will be focusing on the topic ‘You look great’ and ‘She’s the winner’. The students are going to identify the differences between present simple /present continuous, use adjectives to describe clothes, skim and scan for relevant details and answer reading comprehension questions. Through role-plays, games and presentations, students will brush up their listening, speaking, reading and writing skills. Weekly spelling test will also be carried out so that the students can practise new vocabularies and use them in writing sentences and also speaking.

Physical Education (Mr Dennis Lee, Ms Emily Tan, Mr.Vinod Khanna, Ms.Reena Singh)

During this term, students will complete the Invasion Games. Teams score when they move an implement into the opposing team’s zone and successfully attack that team’s goal or target area. Tactical problems related to invasion games include maintaining possession, attacking and/or defending a goal, winning the ball, etc.The focus will be on modified basketball games and skills. (COVID S.O.P) Unfortunately due to the Covid SOP we will have to do the modified range activities inside the classroom with proper distance and a safe environment.

Music (Mr Izwary Johari)

Students will be learning instruments/virtual instruments and developing the ability to perform and enhance their understanding of music elements. Students will have the opportunity to perform different pieces on the tuned percussion instruments and to expand their technical vocabulary in order to describe the music.

Drama (Ms Sharmila Kanagalingam)

Students will follow a thematic study of drama, exploring the concepts of tragedy and comedy in storytelling. Students will participate in debates to develop public speaking, performance, and presentation skills while identifying the strengths and challenges in their unique styles of expression. Students will be taught the importance of creativity and imagination in oratory and visual performance.

Art (Mr Mohd Shahrul Hasfis bin mohd Zainuddin)

This term, students will be learning about the painting. They will learn more and deeply in creating painting artwork using acrylic and watercolor paint. They will teach in painting techniques such as colour mix and match, colour mixing, brushes control and much more. Most of their paintings’ subject matter will be still life, portraits and scenery. This activity will focus on students’ ability to observe and adapt the techniques in order to extend their skills before going to secondary level.
