A Musical Friendship

Nitin and Abhay lived in Surya Enclave. They were neighbours and they both loved music! Abhay practised his guitar every evening in his garden. Nitin too would take out his drum set and practise in his garden. They often practised at the same time, but never together.

Surya Enclave was soon going to hold a Musical Night. Abhay wanted to perform, but he did not have a partner. Nitin did not have a partner either.

“Why practise alone when we can practise together?” Abhay called out the next day, feeling a little embarrassed.

“Are you sure?” asked Nitin in surprise.

“Of course!” said Abhay with a smile, “We should have joined hands much earlier!”

They made great music together and put on a great show at the Musical Night!

Unlike her friends, eleven-year-old Noorie was scared of water. Her friends jumped into the village pond. “Come on Noorie, the water is so cool,” Saba called out. Noorie ran back to her hut feeling sad. “Why can’t I enjoy the water like all my friends do?” she thought.

One afternoon Noorie sat beside the pond alone. “Oh no! It’s Aadil bhaijaan. He will again ask me to join him in water,” Noorie said to herself, feeling annoyed.

Aadil walked up to Noorie and smiled. She didn’t smile back. Suddenly, Aadil caught Noorie’s hand and jumped into the water with her. “Don’t be scared, I am holding you!” he called out. Noorie held Aadil’s hand firmly, and moved her arms and legs. She managed to reach the water’s edge. She was crying and laughing at the same time.

“I am sorry, Noorie. I had to do this. I only wanted you not to be scared anymore,” Aadil said. She looked at him. “Bhaijaan, will you teach me how to swim?” Aadil smiled. He taught her every afternoon for a month.

“Come on Saba, the water is lovely,” Noorie waved out to her friends a month later. They all jumped in. Saba was amazed, “Noorie! You did it!”

Then up to the highest peaks he goes,

To fly above fierce storms he strives,

Watch the world, spread my wide wings,

I am Lord of both the earth and the skies,

And mightier than the mightiest kings!
