TOXIC STRESS & CHILD DEVELOPMENT: 

Child maltreatment is not selective; it exists in all segments of oursociety. This training will teach individuals how to recognizecharacteristics of child maltreatment in children and abusiveparents, defining a mandated reporter, identifying steps in reportingsuspected child maltreatment, and resources for families andcaregivers.

For Youth

RECOGNIZE & REPORT CHILD MALTREATMENT:

THE CHOOSE YOUR PARTNER AND CAREGIVER CAREFULLY

Everyone knows there are times when you have to leave your childwith another person. It's hard to imagine someone you love or trustcould hurt your child, but it happens. Many children are harmed eachyear by adults who don't know how to take care of a child, especiallywhen the child is crying or being difficult. The purpose of this courseis to provide information on how to carefully select safe caregiversfor children, including identifying warning signs and behaviors inpotential significant others, babysitters, or other individuals that maycare for children.

 ENOUGH ABUSE: STRATEGIES FOR YOUR FAMILY & COMMUNITY

Enough Abuse! This educational program provides strategies foradults to take responsibility for preventing child sexual abuse. Learnhow to recognize behaviors in adults that suggest someone mightpose a sexual risk to children, and to recognize signs a child mighthave been sexually abused.

HEALTHY FAMILIES, HEALTHY COMMUNITIES: 

WORKING WITH PARENTS IN CULTURALLY COMPETENT WAYS:  

Who: Children/ Duration: 30­60 minutes.   This presentation addresses personal safety (including physical and mental) and bullying. Physical safety includes personal space/boundariesand physical abuse. Mental safety includes communication with peers and adults. The definition, consequences, and reasons for bullyingbehaviors are also addressed in this presentation. The program closes with the value of kindness. This presentation can be given assembly styleor in smaller classroom groups.

 WE DESERVE TO BE SAFE! 

EXPECT RESPECTWho: Children/ Duration: 8 hours.The Expect Respect program consists of eight one­hour sessions that focus on reducing risk factors for violence and promoting protectivefactors for healthy relationships. Topics include: preventing teen violence with a focus on bullying and sexual harassment, skills to develophealthy relationships, how to be respectful and positive, and leadership development. 

Cultural competence is the ability to work with families and learnpractices to respect cultural preferences and increase familyresponsiveness. This session provides participants with an overviewof the relationship between culture and parental functions to becomemore proficient at recognizing important cultural factors,understanding how culture influences parental functions, andlearning strategies to address cultural issues during parentinterventions.

A child's earliest years are the most crucial for brain development.Living in stressful environments can negatively affect a child’semotional, social, and physical development. Through this training,attendees will be provided with an overview of how stress canaffect brain development, and be shown how to identify potentiallyunsafe children and the steps to take when suspicion arises. 

This class, appropriate for all types of community organizations,focuses on tactics for building strong family foundations andcommunity connections, enabling communities to prevent neglectand abuse through forming interconnected support systems. 

CARE FOR KIDS Who: Children/ Duration: 3 hours.Care for Kids is a fun, health­based curriculum for children from 3­8 years old. The curriculum contains 6 units that teaches and reinforces 2 to 4simple, age­appropriate messages about the body, emotions and asking for help via a circle time, a song, a book, and an activity or craft. Thiswell­researched curriculum also includes a component that helps adults understand the link between healthy sexual education and child sexualabuse prevention. This presentation can be given assembly style or in smaller classroom groups.

WE CARE ELEMENTARY  (3rd­6th grade)

Who: Children/ Duration: 6 hours.We Care Elementary is a developmentally targeted sexual abuse prevention program created for elementary school communities that focuseson building children’s protective factors and understanding healthy relationships through multimodal, highly experiential lessons. This trainingalso has a component that emphasizes skill building in the adult community through training opportunities and informational articles.

LEARNING FOR YOUR LITTLE ONE WORKSHOPThis workshop teaches parents how their child is learning andgrowing from 0­5. It provides parents with some tools and resourcesto help get their child ready for school. 

Learn the basics of what makes up advocacy and discover how thisprocess can help you achieve a better outcome for you, your family,and your community.

SPEAK UP FOR YOUR FAMILY: ADVOCACY 101

OUR TRAININGS & CLASSES

These story times teach parents and children the importance ofspeaking up, while also showing parents how to make reading funfor their child. This activity lasts 30 minutes.

 ENOUGH ABUSE: PREVENTING CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE

Classes are one­hour long and available in English or Spanish.

Enough Abuse! This educational program discusses the natureand scope of child abuse, from inappropriate boundary violationsto illegal sexual abuse of child or teens. It also provides elementsof proper screening of prospective staff and how to respond todisclosure of sexual abuse or misconduct.

Classes are one­hour long, and can be taught in English or Spanish.CEUs are available when requested.
