Lane Cove Public School has an extensive and highly regarded music programme. The school bands and ensembles perform regularly — a highlight for the children and community.Qualified music tutors conduct the bands and ensembles and provide individual lessons before or after school.All children in the music programme must be part of a school music group.The music programme is run by the Music Committee, a sub-committee of the P&C. The Music Committee is run by volunteers.

INSTRuMENT HIRE AND TuITIONInstrument hire and tuition is available for a wide range of instruments. Kindergarten children are not eligible for the programme.

Children in Years 1 and 2 may learn recorder, violin or cello. Small size violins and cellos are available for hire. Parents/Carers are required to attend violin lessons for all students in Years 1 and 2. Year 2 children can also learn guitar.

Children in Year 3 and above may learn recorder, violin, cello, acoustic guitar or a Band instrument —

flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, bass guitar, percussion or tuned percussion (glockenspiel, timpani, xylophone).

Children wanting to learn a Band instrument must give first and second preferences on enrolment. Every effort is made to allocate first preferences, however, availability of some instruments may be limited. Instruments will be allocated to ensure a balanced Training Band.

INDIvIDuAL PRIvATE TuITION• Children must have an individual private music

lesson each week with a specialist tutor for their instrument

• Private tuition fees are $40 (incl. GST) per half hour lesson per week, payable directly to the music tutor

• Tutors are allocated by the Music Committee. Your tutor will be in contact with you to organise a lesson time

• Lessons are held at the school before or after school hours

MuSICAL gROuP MEMbERSHIPChildren participating in the music programme are required to be a member of a school instrumental group, band or orchestra. Groups rehearse once a week before or after school.

Groups include:• Training, Concert and Senior Concert Bands• Jazz Band, Rock Band and Orchestra

(extension ensembles)• Guitar Groups• String Groups (Violin and Cello Groups)• Recorder Groups

Children attending private tuition outside of the school music programme are welcome to join LCPS music groups.

2018 MuSIC PROgRAMME FEESGroup fees cover the costs of employing conductors, maintaining equipment and purchasing new music and instruments.

• Group fees and instrument hire fees are not refundable except in exceptional circumstances.

• Group fees are only payable on two groups per child. No charge for additional groups.

• Group fees and hire fees are to be paid in addition to private tuition fees. Group and hire fees will be invoiced by the LCPS Music Committee. The private tutor will invoice separately.

* Instruments are hired to enable children to play in LCPS music groups. Hire to students not in these groups is subject to availability and the external hire fee (twice standard fee) plus bond will be charged.
