Research from the Education & Employers
Taskforce and other sources show that
young people who have a greater exposure
to employers whilst at school, achieve
better employment outcomes.
Our first and cornerstone initiative is a new
network of ‘Enterprise Advisers’ who will
work one-to-one with school and college
leaders helping them to develop effective
employer engagement plans, drawing on
their own local business networks.
The Enterprise Adviser Network is a join
initiative brought to you by The Careers &
Enterprise Company and Thames Valley
Berkshire LEP.
The Careers & Enterprise Company is an
employer-led organisation set up to inspire
and prepare young people for the fast-
changing world of work. Its role is to take
an umbrella view of the landscape of
careers and enterprise, supporting the
programme coverage nationally.
Principles:
Build on what works
Test, learn & adapt
Work nationally, tailor locally
Enable & convene the best programmes
?
You will need to devote at least one day
per month for a minimum of a year. In
return , you will have the opportunity ot
shape our education landscape and help
develop our future workforce.
You will be matched with an Enterprise
Adviser based on your needs. So if you
want access to an industry specialist who
can improve destination measures, then
join the network.
Remember there is an upper limit of 20
schools and colleges per cluster, so act
now and don’t delay!
Thames Valley Berkshire (TVB) is an
economic powerhouse of enormous
importance to the UK. It is home to over
870,000 people and 42,000 businesses.
Together these generate economic
output – measured in terms of Gross
Value Added (GVA) – of well over £30bn
(in current prices). This is equivalent to
around 15% of the total for the South
East region or just over 2% of the UK-
wide figure.
Employment rates in TVB are high and
unemployment rates are low. However,
there has been little change in these rates
over the last 18 months, which has seen
other local areas leapfrogging TVB in
terms of labour market performance.
Enterprise Advisers are volunteers who
work directly with the leadership of
individual schools and colleges. These
volunteers are drawn from the world of
business and will help to develop
effective employer engagement plans.
The cluster of schools, colleges and
Enterprise Advisers are by a supported by
Allison Giles, a full-time Enterprise Co-
ordinator, who effectively brings the
network together.
