A paradigm shift

• The emergence of a ‘Third Platform’ driven by mobile devices,

cloud services, social technologies and Big Data.

• Cloud and Mobile will be the defining technologies of the

decade with the user interface through Smart devices and data

analytics.

• New internet-based business models will predominate e.g.

aggregation, social business models.

Importance of Cloud Computing

• Cloud is an enabling technology across industry sectors e.g.

Food sector and cloud technology

• Companies must ‘embrace cloud’ to remain competitive

• Growth in ICT services sector is reliant on the internet and

cloud

• Cloud is at the centre of much of the employment creation in

the ICT services sector.

• Skills gap - the industry is growing faster than the availability of

a cloud-educated workforce. Universities have a role to play in

producing graduates to meet this need.
