I was talking with some elderly people the other day, and they were telling me about how uneducated the youth of America is today. They ranted on and on about how, in their day, they learned important things like how to shift their cars and how to churn butter (you know, those sorts of things). In general, I firmly believe we are very educated. I am learning things as a sophomore that my parents were not taught until college. However, I do believe there are a few things that we are not getting taught. So here it is, “The top five issues that America is not facing.” 5. Hurricane pi It has not hit yet…but it will. We all know that hurricanes names alternate gender and are in alphabetical order. Once they get through the alphabet, hurricanes start using Greek letters for their names. Well, eventually we will be hit by hurricane pi. I, personally, think this is very serious issue. This is because I do not think people are going to run away from pi. I can just imagine the news reports now. “…And Florida was showered with pi. Looks like they got their just desserts.” 4. Amount of planets in the Solar System I honestly cannot tell you. In my day we had nine planets. Now experts are saying that Pluto is a dwarf planet. So just because Pluto has some size issues it no longer counts as a planet? That is really mean, NASA! I happen to know some very nice “dwarfs,” if that is what you are calling them. I guess we should stop considering smaller people as human beings then? I think not, and just like Pluto with the planets, they are very much a necessary part of society. Anyway, now we, the youth of the nation, are torn. Half of us think there are nine planets, half think there are eight planets. We may be sitting on some r e a l social unrest here. 3. Illiterate kittens We may have a serious issue on our hands here. It seems that approximately 100 percent of all kittens cannot read. What are you doing to prevent this? Anything? Despicable. How can you stare at these adorable creatures that warm our hearts on a daily basis? I cannot think of anything more heart wrenching than illiterate kittens, and I hope I never find one. 2. Illiterate puppies Do you all remember that one time that I said, “I cannot think of anything more heart renching than illiterate kittens, and I hope I never find one”? Uh, hmm, well. 1. Illegal Canadian immigrants Do you know how many Canadians illegally cross the U.S. border every year? Me neither, and that makes me very upset! How come they do not get any recognition? They work their butts off to get into this great land of the free and what do they get? Nothing! No news story, no article, no nothing! Have they all of a sudden become a protected people? It is for these reasons and so many more that I think this is the number one issue that Americans are not facing. The dearly departed Metro Station, rest in peace forever May 22 7 p.M. After two of the four members left the band, things were looking hazy. Synthesizer player, Blake Healy, dropped the band and got married. Metro Station’s keyboardist, Anthony Improgo, was the next to resign from the group. This left only lead vocalist a n d guitarist, Mason Musso, alongside lead guitar and backup vocalist, Trace Cyrus, in the band. Although the rumors still spread, this did not stop Cyrus and Musso from announcing that they would stay a band, but this did not last for long. On March 25, Metro Station officially confirmed the rumors and split. Metro Station only released one album, their first and last. Most recently, an EP, titled Kelsey, was released. Kelsey consisted of the acoustic and remixed versions of the “Kelsey” track and two brand new songs. Their final work was on the single “Where’s My Angel” for the Almost Alice soundtrack. Metro Station attracts listeners of all arrays, from the pop to hardcore scenes. Their first album, self- titled Metro Station, was released in 2007. This included the radio- h i t , “Shake It,” which kicked Metro Station o u t into the main stream. Another popular single, “Seventeen Forever,” was featured on this album. Metro Station has produced many catchy and upbeat songs, which engrave themselves into any listener’s memory. Tracks such as “Wish We Were Older,” “Kelsey” and “Control” are the definition of Metro Station’s unique style. Each song carries definite electronic beats and memorable choruses. Currently, it is unknown what Mason Musso’s plans are after Metro Station’s breakup. Will he go solo? Will he collaborate with Mitchel Musso, his singer/ actor brother? Only time will tell. As for Trace Cyrus, he has already uploaded his first new track on MySpace. He now works under the name AshlandHIGH and has recently released the solo track, French Kiss.” He is planning numerous collaborations, such as with rapper, Lil’ Wyte. Cyrus has also started a clothing line that is nearing its release, titled, Southern Made Hollywood Paid.” Although we may never hear another new Metro Station track or see the band reunited on the stage again, we can thank them for all the memories that will last: the choruses and beats that will stick in our heads, their energetic stage presence and their new-age, electronic sound that may inspire bands of the future.
