“Sanofi is pleased to support the QiC Programme in 2020 and to recognise those individuals, teams, Trusts and partnerships who demonstrate quality in care for people living with diabetes.

We’re keen to see evidence of quality improvement which aligns with current NHS priorities. These include reducing variation in access and quality of care to minimise risk of complications,

improving achievement of NICE treatment targets, expanding provision of structured education including digital self-management tools and ensuring hospitals provide access to

multidisciplinary teams to improve recovery, reduce length of stays and future admission rates.”

2019 PATIENT CARE PATHWAY – ADULTS (HIGHLY COMMENDED 2019)

JUDGES SPECIAL AWARD (WINNER 2019)Supporting Primary Care with Diabetes and Chronic Kidney Disease Managementby East and North Herts NHS Trust

“The recognition and high commendation from QiC for the DM renal project was important to help move forward discussions with commissioners to change care pathways and to start serious planning for multi-morbid complex care. The quote from QiC of the transferability of the programme more widely should encourage other services to look at this area and consider a similar approach to managing diabetic kidney disease.”Dr Peter Winocour, Consultant Physician and Clinical Director for Diabetes and Endocrine Services

“We are delighted to continue supporting the QiC Diabetes Awards programme as it brings together many organisations and industry who feel passionately about diabetes care, it reflects our underpinning philosophy of

sharing ideas and best practice and the recognition it brings provides a hugely positive boost for all involved and ultimately our patients.”

DIABETES EDUCATION PROGRAMMES – HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS

Digital Safety Training Improving Ward Staff Insulin Competency and Confidence

by Cambridge Diabetes Education Programme

“It was a great honour winning a QiC Diabetes Award in 2019. The Safe Use of Insulin in Hospital digital

training was delivered in collaboration with Dr Sam Rice, Chris Cottrell and PocketMedic. We are all very

proud of the training and the positive impact it is having on ward staff’s competency, confidence and guideline

familiarity in a variety of organisations. Many more trusts are now considering implementing it as a diabetes

staff training tool to reduced clinical incidents and improve insulin safety. As a result of success of CDEP’s

hospital-focussed insulin safety training, we developed a second insulin safety training package for staff

working in the community, which was launched in September 2019, increasing the reach and impact of our

online insulin safety training. In March 2020, we will launch a series of 1 minute films focusing on various

aspects of insulin therapy further enriching the insulin safety resources offered by this training.”

Candice Ward, Lead CDEP Educator

MIND AND BODY HEALTHY TOGETHER – EMOTIONAL WELLBEING PROGRAMMES FOR PEOPLE WITH DIABETES - ADULTSEmbedding Psychotherapy Within a Community Diabetes Team by Diabetes Care for Youby Sussex Community Foundation Trust“Winning the QiC Diabetes 2019 Mind and Body Healthy Together, Adults award was incredibly special and important. To be recognised for the way in which Diabetes Care for You (DCFY) embeds psychotherapy within all aspects of the diabetes community illustrates the acceptance and the importance of connecting the mind and body for positive self-management of diabetes. This initiative has already been showcased to commissioners to illustrate how psychological services can work for people with diabetes and what they should actually look like. The award confirms that the service should be a template for ‘best practice’ and has been used within our service literature and in publications for Diabetes UK. Multiple agencies (diabetes and psychological) have contacted us to find out ‘how it is done’. Internally (within our own Trust) the award has highlighted the importance of emotional health in the management of all physical illnesses and difficulties. We (the diabetes psychotherapy team) feel proud that our work is recognised nationally and internationally.” Jackie Fosbury, Diabetes Psychotherapy Lead, Diabetes Care for You, Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust

“Diabetes UK is once again delighted to collaborate on these important awards. They highlight and promote the exciting and innovative approaches that are being implemented around the

UK to improve the care of people with diabetes.”
