Environmental Management Practice in RMG Sector

Environmental issues in RMG of Bangladesh- Rapid growth in the industrialsector is playing a vital role in the economy of Bangladesh. Mainly thegrowth has been concentrated in garments which are export orientedindustries. To support garments a large number of other textile industrieshave been established more are growing to be set up shortly. These

rapid growth of textile industries create environmental pollution! mainlypollution in water bodies. The reason of water pollution is lac" ofappropriate environmental management in textiles in Bangladesh. Thereare several environmental management options in textiles. #mong variousoptions most popular and e$ective option is establishment of perfectwaste water treatment plant which is conventionally "nown as E%uenttreatment plant appropriate treatment of waste water regularly. ThoughBangladesh Government introduced law to run treatment plants but atpresent a few treatment plants are running smoothly in some of factories.&o the scenario of pollution contributed by textiles yet to improve due todischarging of waste water to water bodies causing detrimental e$ects toa'uatic lives people who are directly in contact with polluted water.

Introduction Environmental Management:#dministrative functions that develop! implement! and monitor theenvironmental policy of an organi(ation. )n most cases! it does notactually involve managing the environment itself! but rather is the processof ta"ing steps and promoting behaviors that will have a positive impacton how environmental resources are used and protected. *rgani(ationsengage in environmental management for a couple of di$erent reasons!but caring for the natural world! following local laws and rules about

conservation! and saving money are usually near the top of most lists.Management plans loo" di$erent in di$erent industries! but all aim forroughly the same goals.

    Defne Environmental Management:

Environmental management is a process that industries, companies, and individuals undertake to regulate and protect the

    health of the natural world.

0ollution is the discharge of unwanted material! residue and energy intothe environment. &ome of these residues are unconverted raw material!some are uncovered products and some are by products produced duringthe manufacturing or processing. )n other words! pollution is a sign ofine1ciency in industrial production and it can be considered as moneythat is going up the chimney! down the sewer and out of the plant inwaste truc"! thus causing loss to the manufacturer.

Bangladesh RMG industries which are already /omposite Garments)ndustry their needed to maintain Environmental Management &tandardand we should save our environment from the pollution contributed byRMG industries. &o ETPis mandatory. )f these numerous number of dyeingindustries emit e%uent without treatment into the rivers or narrow way

beside the cultivatable lands then river water will be polluted as well asthe fertility of land will be decreased respectively. The rivers &hitala""ha!Burigonga and Turag are highly polluted by textile li'uid waste. &o wehave to stop pollution immediately.

"onclusion:# certi+ed environmental management proves that the business is ta"ingactive steps to ful+l social environment responsibilities. Environmentallycredible companies have a competitive edge in national and internationalmar"ets. The Environments managements helps the organi(ation to be in
