    M erck & Co., Inc . has cut its energy consumption in the past f ive years by 50

    percent, and has pledged to reduce tota l globa l greenhouse gas emissions by 12percent by 2012 recent ly insta lled so lar energy pane ls at its off ices in New Jersey,

    which generate 7.5 p ercent of the power at the com pany's headquarters .

    GlaxoSmithKline redesigned its packaging to cut down the amount of materia ls it

    uses to pack its products

    B ig Pharma has learned that green practices, like reducing energy consumption, is

    the next best thing to a hea lthy paycheck f rom a big customer .

    A llergan the com pany's energy management, recyc ling and other environmenta l

    eff orts save the com pany about $5 mi llion a year, or about .5 to 1 percent of the

    com pany's tota l revenue . One area where the com pany is f ocusing its eff orts now is

    in the area of reducing greenhouse gases
