Korea’s Experiences in Environmental Issues

One of the fastest growing economies in the world. Experienced environmental challenges arising from rapid industrialization and urbanization in the 1960s to 1980s.

In the early 1980s, Korea’s total pollution load peaked.

However, strong government policies combined with grassroots environmental movement, since then, reversed the downward spiral of Korea’s environment.

Has relevant accumulated knowledge and experience on environmental issues which (in often slightly modified form) is applicable to other countries in the region.
