Masters in Planning (Environmental Planning)
2nd Semester Studio School of Planning and Architecture
New Delhi
•2012 declared as International Year for Sustainable energy by U.N
•Development to be aligned along sustainability
•Renewable energy is one step towards this…
•Planning initiative – mainstream solar energy concerns into development process
BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
• To reduce the dependence on conventional and non-renewable energy sources.
• To integrate new and renewable energy systems with the development planning process.
• To analyze the renewable energy relationship with built form and physiography.
AIM
OBJECTIVES
To formulate the environmental plan for sustainable development of Shimla.
.
METHODOLOGY
Development Planning Process
Integration of Solar energy
Identify parameters for
analysis
Output – making spatial development energy sensitive
Literature study, data collection, analysis – using
Ecotect
How it will be used in analysis
• Land use distribution- to be related with parameters
• Density distribution across the planning areaCheck feasibility of renewable energy by evaluating the existing projects
• Analyze aspect, slope, elevation
• Analyze consumption pattern – building level data collection
• Identify critical areas- in terms of pollution
TYPE OF ANALYSIS
Shimla district is part of north-western Himalayan Agro climatic region of Himachal Pradesh located in the south.
