Val works the toilets in “Pleasure”, a hedonistic gay club in the north of England. For years, she’s been a shoulder to cry on and a confidante. She is much-loved but viewed as an enigma. Why is she still there? Why does she never leave? When a young man, both beautiful and unpredictable, arrives from the city and leaves a gift for Val, it marks the beginning of a passionate and violent night…

Born in Liverpool in 1988, composer Mark Simpson won BBC Young Musician of the Year as a clarinettist in 2006 and also, that same year, received the accolade of BBC Young Composer of the year – the only individual to have won both competitions. In 2010 he won the Royal Philharmonic Society Composition Award.

Atomising bodies, movement, film, sound and light into miniature shards of intense sensation, Atomos is a work by cutting-edge contemporary choreographer Wayne McGregor.

"In 1974 my father invested £750 (£8,100 in today’s money) in a Royal Worcester porcelain figure of The Duke of Wellington on horseback - made to celebrate his victory over Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo. He kept the figure we affectionately called The Duke, wrapped in sponge, in a big box, under his bed.

After he died in 2001, my mother decided to take the figure out and display it on the table in the bay window.

Since 2005 I’ve been working on a film script which is in the very final stages of development.

In the autumn of 2015 I sit at my desk waiting for an email that will tell me what I need to do to the script to get it onto the screen. I turn the radio on. I listen to a report about the refugee crisis. My mother calls. She tells me she’s broken The Duke.

My mother, my film script and the refugee crisis all need my attention."

Mouse The Persistence of an Unlikely ThoughtA new show by Daniel Kitson

A few years ago, quite suddenly, I thought of something.

Something unlikely.

An implausible story about a mouse.

Since then, whenever starting a new show, faced with the empty page and the endless possibility and the looming deadline I have tried and failed to find a way of telling that particular story. Every structural gambit or presentational conceit feeling both oddly insufficient and insufficiently odd. And so, every time, eventually, I’ve abandoned the mouse and I’ve moved on. I’ve had a different idea, for a different story and I’ve written a different show.

This time was no different, again I wanted to tell that story and again I didn’t know how.

And then, quite suddenly, I thought of something else.

Something equally unlikely.

An implausible story about a phone call.

And here we are.

Currently thirty eight years old and still not entirely bald, Daniel Kitson returns to the Everyman Theatre with a massive white board (possibly), an angle poise lamp (probably) and the world premiere (definitely) of a brand new show about, friendship and loneliness, doubt and hope, a mouse, a phone call and the unfathomable repercussions of everything we ever do.

All the onstage deaths in Shakespeare performed by “four of the greatest clowns working in Britain”Time Out

There are 74 onstage deaths in the works of William Shakespeare - 75 if you count the black ill-favoured fly killed in Titus Andronicus. From the Roman suicides in Julius Caesar to the death fall of Prince Arthur in King John; from the carnage at the end of Hamlet to snakes in a basket in Antony & Cleopatra. And then there’s the pie that Titus serves his guests.

Spymonkey will perform them all - sometimes lingeringly, sometimes messily, sometimes movingly, sometimes musically, always hysterically. The four ‘seriously, outrageously, cleverly funny clowns’ (Time Magazine) will scale the peaks of sublime poetry, and plumb the depths of darkest depravity. It may even be the death of them.

Directed by Tim Crouch (I, Malvolio, An Oak Tree, Adler & Gibb), The Complete Deaths will be a solemn, sombre and sublimely funny tribute to the 400th anniversary of Shakespeare’s death.

The mayor is in a cold sweat. News has reached him of an imminent visit from a government inspector. His fear is well-founded as he has been somewhat lacking in his official duties: the hospital’s a health hazard, the school’s a war zone, the soldiers don’t have trousers to march in and he never quite got around to finishing his building programme.

On 1 July 1916, the 36th (Ulster) Division took part in one of the bloodiest battles in human history. The Battle of the Somme.

One hundred years on, Everyman & Playhouse present this modern classic in a major co-production with Abbey Theatre, Citizens Theatre (Crime and Punishment) and Headlong (The Glass Menagerie, plus touring shows 1984, Spring Awakening and The Absence of War) directed by Headlong’s Artistic Director, Jeremy Herrin.

Portia, a wealthy heiress of Belmont, sets her suitors a challenge. The winner will win her hand in marriage; the losers will lose her hand and much more. In Venice, the epicentre of consumption, speculation and debt, Bassanio borrows money from his friend Antonio to finance his attempt. Antonio, in turn, takes out a loan from the moneylender Shylock. The loan will be repaid when Antonio’s ships return to the city. But if they should fail, and the money cannot be repaid, Antonio shall give to Shylock a pound of his own flesh. And they do fail. And Shylock will have his “bond”.

In some of his most highly-charged scenes, Shakespeare dramatizes the competing claims of tolerance and intolerance, religious law and civil society, justice and mercy; while in the character of Shylock he created one of the most memorable outsiders in all theatre.

The Complete

Walk The Globe marks the 400th anniversary of

Shakespeare's death as part of Shakespeare 400 with an event to celebrate the scale and reach

of his imagination, his life and his legacy.

Commissioned by Shakespeare’s Globe, The Complete Walk is a series of 37 short films, one for each of

Shakespeare’s plays, to be shown in venues throughout the city centre including the Everyman and Playhouse.

At the heart of each film will be some of the great scenes from Shakespeare’s plays, shot in the place hovering in his

imagination when he wrote them. Imagine Cleopatra in front of the Pyramids, Shylock in Venice’s Jewish ghetto, Hamlet on the rocks

of Elsinore… all filmed with some of our best-known actors.

If you’d like us to post your tickets we’ll ask for £1 to cover postage costs for bookings under 10 tickets and £2 for bookings over 10 tickets.

In Person:The Playhouse Box Office is open Mon-Sat 10am to 4pm and until the start of the show on performance nights.

The Everyman Box Office is open Mon-Sat 10am to 6pm and until the start of the show on performance nights.

Pricing & FeesA single transaction fee of £2 is applied to all phone, counter and internet bookings with the exception of cash payments. Ticket prices are subject to change – for current prices please visit our website or contact the Box Office. Book early to ensure the best seats at the best prices.

Standby Tickets:Students, under 26s and unwaged persons (in receipt of a Jobseekers’ Allowance), turn up on the day of a performance and if there are seats available then pay just £6 for a ticket (ID is required).

Discounts:Available at certain performances (subject to availability) for: over 60s, education groups, children 16 and under, unwaged persons (in receipt of Jobseekers’ Allowance), disabled, students, under 26s, Equity, BECTU, Musicians’ Union and Writers’ Guild members.

Group Bookings:Whether it is small groups, or larger coach parties, our dedicated Group Bookings Service offers you a longer reservation period giving you time to make necessary arrangements. Returns & Exchanges: Tickets are non-refundable, however, subject to availability we can exchange tickets for another performance of the same show; provided tickets are returned for sale at least 24 hours before the performance.We may provide a re-sale service only in the event of a sold out performance. The value of any resold ticket will be placed as credit on the customer’s account and can be redeemed against the purchase of tickets for a future show. No alternative refund by cash, card or cheque is available.Reselling a ticket for personal or commercial gain makes it void.

Latecomers: Please arrive in good time for the performance. Every effort will be made to ensure the admittance of latecomers at a suitable break in the performance but admission cannot always be guaranteed. This may also apply to customers who leave their seat during the performance.
