NSN and GTIN

• The NATO Stock Number (NSN) identifies a type of article• Item of supply (“same form / fit / function”)
• The Global Trade Item Number identifies actual products that are traded• Item of production
• One NSN typically corresponds to several GTINs
• Maintaining the relationship between NSN and GTINs can facilitate trade and logistic processes
• GTIN may meet the requirements of the NATO Supplier Source Codification (SSC)
• GDSN is a GS1 service enabling buyers and sellers to synchronise product master data electronically. Currently (fall 2013) close to 30,000 companies use the service to synchronise data related to more than 12 million GTINs
