The Polaris Networks LTE EPC Load Tester is a comprehensive test solution for evaluating the performance and the stability of LTE EPC nodes, such as the MME, the S-GW and the PDN-GW. The EPC Load Tester is ideally suited for manufacturers of EPC equipment as well as operators deploying EPC nodes in an LTE network.
The Tester can be used for testing both the Control Plane and the User Plane undervarious load conditions and for measuring the capacity and various key performanceindicators of EPC nodes.
The LTE EPC Load Tester has a distributed, scalable architecture. The Tester emulates all the networkelements - UEs, eNodeBs, MMEs, S-GWs, PDN-GWs and IP Traffic sources and sinks - that are required for testing an EPC node. The emulated nodes can run on one system or on multiple systems for producing higher loads. All of the emulated nodes are configured and controlled from a central console.
The EPC Load Tester is available on a high-performance, scalable hardware platform. It is also available as a software test tool that can run on a PC.
TEST BED CONFIGURATIONKEY FEATURES
Users can drag-and-drop Emulated Nodes from a Toolbox to create a Test Bed Configuration easily. Users can also copy-paste to replicate Emulated Nodes as well as the entire Emulator configuration.
Simulate large number of base stations and subscribers with multiple bearers per subscriber to generate heavy load on the system under test
Test all types of signaling transactions, including UE Attach, Detach, Tracking Area Updates, Handovers, Bearer Setup, Modification and Release, Paging, etc
Generate a mix of Control Plane and User Plane traffic from asingle test system
Generate line-rate IP and GTP-U traffic on uplink and downlink simultaneously using multiple Gigabit Ethernet ports
Change the traffic load and transaction rates during test execution
Measure Performance Metrics and QoS Metrics such as throughput, packet loss and latency
Save Test Logs and snapshots of Traffic Metrics automatically Full state-machine based implementation of all emulated nodes
Simulate both normal signaling scenarios as well as abnormal orfailure scenarios
Configure Test Bed and create Test Scenarios with easy‘drag-and-drop' operations
Scripting interface for integration with existing test automation framework

LTE EPC LOAD TESTERTEST SCENARIOS
The EPC Load Tester Console allows users to create Test Scenarios graphically, without having to write test scripts. User can drag-and-drop test procedures from a Toolbox, add loops to repeat a set of procedures, and define parallel streams of traffic generation to generate a complex mix of signalingtransactions and user traffic.
The Console lets users change the traffic load dynamically.
Users can change the rate and duration of signaling transactions while the Test Scenario is playing.
EXAMPLES OF TEST SCENARIOS
PERFORMANCE METRICS
Simulate several signaling procedures such as Attach, Detach, Cell Change, UE Context Release, Service Request, Bearer Resource Allocation, Bearer Resource Modification, S1-MME Setup, S1 Release, Paging, Bearer Deactivation etc
Simulate DOS threats by simulating a group of rogue UEs that attempt to connect to the network
The EPC Load Tester provides signaling traffic metrics for all the signaling transactions such as UE Attach, Detach, Bearer Creationand Handover and user traffic metrics such as Throughput, PacketLoss and Latency. These performance metrics are displayed in atabular manner as well as using graphs.
Performance metrics are saved periodically in a CSV file at auser-configurable rate.
