Summary: A Mandalorian bounty hunter tracks a target for a well-paying client.

The episode opens on an icy, remote lo-cation on the outer rim. Inside a cold tav-ern, a trio of Trawlers harass a blue be-ing named Mythrol. They’re interruptedby the titular helmeted bounty hunter, and after a brief confrontation with him,the Trawlers are dead.

While Mythrol offers him credits as areward for saving him, the Mandalorianshares some bad news: There’s a bountyon Mythrol, and he’s come to collect. Thedangers of this chilly remote planet areestablished pretty quickly as Mando and

his captive venture to his ship, a pre-Empire Razor Crest, when a large monster breaks throughice and swallows their transport vehicle and makes a grab for the ship, only to be zapped awayby Mando.

In the ship, Mythrol immediately searches for a way out of his situation. Using the excuse toevacuate his thorax, he nervously explores the depths of the ship, stumbling across the Man-dalorian’s extensive stockpile of weapons... and a trio of captives encased in Carbonite. If Mythrolwas hoping to escape this fate, he was in no such luck. Mando suddenly appears and the bluebeing becomes the fourth member of his Carbonite collection.

The Mandalorian may be a famed lone gunslinger, but he’s also part of a larger organization ofbounty hunters. He arrives on an unnamed planet (though the ominous music certainly suggestsan Imperial association), where he meets with Greef Carga, the leader of the bounty hunter guildwho brokered the bounties of Mythrol and the trio of other beings encased in Carbonite. Mandopasses along his retrieved assets and inquires about another job. Greef Carga offers a numberof low paying bounties before teasing a final, ominous assignment. It pays a lot but there’s nopuck; the mission requires a face to face meeting with person requiring his services.

Mando arrives at an inconspicuous-looking hideout. Upon gaining entry, he’s startled to findhimself in a room with a quartet of weathered stormtroopers and the mysterious client, played

by Werner Herzog. We don’t know who this man is, but based on the massive Imperial Medallionhe sports and the hord of stormtroopers at his command, this man is no good.

The haste arrival of his associate Dr. Pershing nearly leads to a standoff between Mando andthe stormtroopers, but Herzog commands the stormtroopers to stand down, though it does littleto quell the tension.

The pair reveal very little about the asset, only that it is 50 years old and they have a trackingfob. And, it needs to be returned alive, although, to the objections of Pershing, Herzog addsthat proof of termination is also acceptable, for a lower fee. As a down payment, Herzog offersa Beskar piece, promising a camtono upon the asset’s successful retrieval. As Mando departs,Herzog offers a final, ominous remark about returning Beskar back to a Mandalorian is ”restoringthe natural order of things after a period of disarray.”

Following the jarring meeting, Mando seeks out an armorer within small Mandalorian colonyhidden in the depths of the planet. She tells him the Beskar piece was gathered during the GreatPurge — presumably the now-infamous Jedi Purge. As she melts it, creating a pauldron, Mandohas a series of flashbacks about the harrowing attack on his home that left him a foundling.

With his new armor in place, Mando journeys to a cracked, desert territory, where he’s quicklyambushed by Blurrgs, a beast previously seen in Star Wars universe that looks like a dinosaurwith the face of a land-bound Deepsea Anglerfish. He’s saved by an Ugnaught named Kuiil, whoagrees to help him. The Ugnaught has helped many before the Mandalorian, though all have mettheir death seeking his mysterious asset.

Much to Mando’s chagrin, Kuiil reveals that in order to reach the encampment containing theasset, he’s going to need to learn how to ride a Blurrg. After several rocky attempts — duringwhich Kuiil reminds him his ancestors wrote the Mythosaur so taming a Blurrg should not be aproblem, Mando relaxes and finds success with a gentler approach to the beast.

Kuiil leads Mando to the compound and before departing, laments on the mercenaries anddestruction the encampment has brought since its arrival, disturbing those who want to live inpeace. He adds that he’s never met a Mandalorian, but has heard the stories and hopes Mandocan restore peace to the territory.

Mando scouts the compound, looking for an inconspicuous way in. However, his plans arefoiled before he can enact by the arrival of IG-11, a bounty droid, who strolls into the encampmentand demands the Nikto guarding the asset to hand it over, causing a massive gunfight. Mandojoins in, assisting IG-11 in taking down the additional Nikto joining the fight, having believed theywere each the only hunter with the assignment, they agree to team up and split the reward.Theshoot their way in with some impressive work from a machine gun-esque blaster, only to discovertheir asset is... a baby Yoda.

Or at least a being of his species. (This species is famously unknown, so until/if it is given, this being will be, henceforth, known as baby Yoda.)

Mando is startled that the asset is a baby, as he was told the asset was 50. However, IG-11 explains that species age differently, so 50-years-old for one species could mean somethingcompletely different for another. While he goes to kill the asset, Mando makes a split-seconddecision, killing the bounty droid. The episode ends as Mando reaches a finger out to touch thebaby Yoda as it, too, reaches out to the bounty hunter.

Chapter 2: The Child

Season 1Episode Number: 2Season Episode: 2

Originally aired: Friday November 15, 2019Writer: Jon FavreauDirector: Rick FamuyiwaShow Stars: Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian)Guest Stars: Nick Nolte (Kuiil (voice)), Stephen Jackson Powers Jr. (Jawa Elder)Summary: Target in-hand, the Mandalorian must now contend with scavengers.

Having recovered from the discovery thatthe bounty he’s been charged with col-lecting is a baby — a 50-year-old infant— of the same unknown species as Yoda, the Mandalorian is on his way to de-liver the asset to the Client. Mando ex-its the encampment, his young bounty intow. As the pair navigate the desert ter-ritory, they’re followed by a horde of cu-rious space lizards, whose sudden scurry

to safety can only mean one thing: ambush. A group Trandoshans pop out and attack Mando, who swiftly defeats them, as baby Yoda inquisitively looks on. They, too, possess a tracking fob, meaning a lot of people are on the hunt for Mando’s young asset.

In the dusk, Mando attempts to mend a crack in his armor as the young bounty repeatedlyabandons his floating egg-shaped bassinet in an attempt to reach Mando’s broken armor. BabyYoda is trying to tell Mando something but the bounty hunter isn’t interested, sealing the assetback in his bassinet. The next day, Mando and baby Yoda reach his Razer Crest, only to see itbeing looted by Jawas — a fun throwback appearance to the scavenger species first seen in ANew Hope. Obviously, this is not an ideal situation for the bounty hunter, who needs his ship toturn over his newly acquired asset ASAP.

From his hidden perch, Mando blasts a handful of Jawas, spooking them into taking offin their massive Sandcrawler — with most of the Razer Crest parts. The bounty hunter goesafter them, climbing the outer ledge of the vehicle as Jawas throw small pieces of his ship athim, hoping to shake him off. Baby Yoda, meanwhile, is still zooming on behind them in his littlebassinet. There’s a reason the Mandalorian never takes off his helmet, and it’s because it protectshim from the metal machinery being lobbed at him as he scales the Sandcrawler. Unfortunatelyfor the bounty hunter, as soon as he reaches the top, he’s shot with bolts of electricity from adozen Jawas and plummets back into the stand.

As baby Yoda carefully watches Mando, as if trying to gauge whether the bounty hunter isdead at the hands of Jawas, the bounty hunter stirs. Dejected, he and baby Yoda gauge thedamage done to his ship. Spoiler alert: It’s looking pretty rough. Baby Yoda, having, once again, escaped his bassinet, checks in on the wallowing bounty hunter. Stranded on the desert planet, the duo make their way to Kuiil, the Nick Nolte-voiced Ugnaught, for assistance.

Watching baby Yoda play with a couple of space frogs, Kuiil cannot believe this is the sourceof so much fuss... and death. Mando is still very upset about the whole Razer Crest situationbut as the Jawas have only stripped the ship and not destroyed it, Kuiil thinks they can get hisparts back. Mando has tried and can’t break into their ”crawling fortress” of a vehicle, but theUgnaught has spoken and he’s going to take Mando to trade for his ship’s parts. Meanwhile,Mando’s parenting skills leave a lot to be desired as baby Yoda straight-up swallows a space frogwhole. It’s a wild turn of events from the otherwise adorable infant.

The Mandalorian Episode Guide

Mando and Kuiil arrive to meet the Jawas, who are preparing for a fight — because Mando, well, blasted a few of them into nothing, like, yesterday. Luckily they’re also ready to negoti-ate. The scavengers tell him they’ll give back his Razer Crest parts for his Beskar armor. TheMandalorian is still full of mysteries but we’ve learned one thing: Beskar armor is important toMandalorians, so it’s a hard pass from Mando. Spotting baby Yoda, who is making himself a littletoo visible watching from the wagon, they have another trade proposition. As the young asset isnot anywhere near the offering table, the Jawas have a final proposition: they’ll give Mando hisparts if he gets them the egg. We have no idea what this egg is, but it’s clearly a big deal becausethe Jawas are giddily chanting at the prospect of its retrieval.

Mando, Kuiil, and baby Yoda accompany the Jawa to a different part of the desert territory, and Mando and baby Yoda take off in search of the cave. With the asset lingering outside theominous cave, Mando enters... and is promptly ejected by an enormous space rhino. Mando maybe one of the best bounty hunters out there, but even he is no match for this space rhino, wholays him out over and over again as baby Yoda watches — his already massive eyes somehoweven wider. The rhino charges one final time, as Mando weakly staggers to his knees, his smalldagger ready. However, before the space rhino can reach him, it’s halted by baby Yoda using theForce. Using the Force takes a lot of energy, so baby Yoda is unable to contain the beast for long. But it’s all a shocked Mando needs to ready himself and take down the space rhino.

Meanwhile, the Jawas assume Mando is dead and are ready to abandon him, but the veryloyal Kuiil is determined to stay. Just then, Mando and baby Yoda come strolling up, egg in hand.It was an odd length to go to retrieve it but the egg seems to be just that, as the Jawas go to townon the yolk. During their journey back to the Razer Crest, with Mando’s returned parts, Kuiiland the bounty hunter ponder the sleeping asset’s powers. Of which, neither of them seems tounderstand.

While Mando gripes about the repair setting his return back a week, Kuiil shadily retorts thatthings will move faster if the bounty hunter pitches in. Sure enough, the pair pull an all-nighterbut complete their task. As a thank you for his help, Mando offers Kuiil half the reward fromthis bounty but the Ugnaught declines, also turning town the bounty hunter’s offer of a job onhis crew. Kuiil wishes Mando a handsome reward for baby Yoda and the two part ways—thoughhopefully not for long. This series may be The Mandalorian but as far as I’m concerned, Kuiilis the real M.V.P. of episode two, coming through in every way while the titular bounty hunterworked on his helmeted brood.

In the cockpit of the Razer Crest, Mando watches the sleeping bounty, and while we can’tsee his eyes, they’re surely filled with at least some doubt. At this point it seems Mando is stillplanning to turn baby Yoda over to the Client and Pershing.

Summary: The battered Mandalorian returns to his client for his reward.

Having stirred from his Force-induced ex-tended nap, Baby Yoda is awake andready to play. While Mando receives ahologram message from Greef Carga in-forming him to go directly to the antsyClient upon his return, the asset in ques-tion is playing with the circular head fromone of the levers on the Razor Crest’sdashboard. But Mando is in no mood toplay games, snatching the makeshift toy

away and depositing the asset back in the egg as the ship hurtles towards The Client’s planet. With the asset in tow, Mando arrives at The Client’s secret hideout, fulfilling his duties but

betraying Baby Yoda — who, once again, saved his life in the previous episode — and the entireinternet. As they gain entry, the Child appears to sense the looming danger and looks to Mandofor guidance, seemingly to no avail. The Client and Dr. Pershing are thrilled to see the assetand the latter starts performing scans on the disgruntled 50-year-old baby. Meanwhile, Mandodemands to know how many fobs were given to other bounty hunters. The Client admits he wasdoing whatever it took to ensure the mission was completed, regardless of who was able to do soand shows the Mandalorian his payment: the promised camtono of Beskar bricks.

As Pershing leads Baby Yoda away, the little asset whines towards the bounty hunter, whohesitates slightly before allowing it to happen. Perturbed, Mando inquires about the child’s fate. The Client instead coldly comments on how uncharacteristic it is for a bounty hunter to makesuch inquiries, especially after receiving commission and payment. He further points out thatthis very question goes against guild protocol.

After a final vague threat from The Client, Mando departs with the payment, headed for theMandalorian settlement hidden in the depths of the city. However, this time, his arrival — withan entire camtono of Beskar bricks — does not go unnoticed. He asks the armorer to forge himnew armor, with the rest, once more, going towards the foundlings. As several Mandaloriansapproach Mando, one connects the markings on the Beskar bricks to an Imperial smelter andits links to the Great Purge. The two nearly come to blows as the Mandalorian accuses Mando ofdining with — and accepting dirty money from — the same people who forced them underground.

After quelling the fight, the armorer, once more, inquires about a signet for Mando. While sheinitially suggests a Mudhorn — after the beast who destroyed his armor — Mando refuses, as hewas helped by an enemy (Baby Yoda), albeit one who didn’t know it was his enemy. In lieu of asignet, she adds whistling birds to his armor. We don’t know what whistling birds are just yet,but they’ll definitely come up again. As she forges, Mando has more flashbacks from the droid

attack in his youth. This time, it’s implied his parents were killed just after hiding him in a smallstorage space in a shallow storm cellar. The fragmented memory reveals a droid found his hidingspot, though we still don’t know what happened after.

With his new armor, Mando meets a jovial Greef at the tavern. However, Mando is met witha cold reception from the other bounty hunters. Greef reveals that everyone has the Baby Yodafob, continuing to boast about Mando’s success — and subtly revealing his cut of the deal. WhileGreef suggests he take some time off after this massive undertaking, Mando is adamant aboutthe next job, preferring one as far away as possible. As he leaves the tavern, Mando asks aboutthe fate of Baby Yoda and expresses concern about the presence of the Imperial officers in theircity.

Back in the Razor Crest and ready to embark on his next mission, Mando spies the lever headBaby Yoda was playing with. This bounty hunter is definitely rethinking some life choices rightnow! Morals getting in the way of his amoral bounty hunting lifestyle, he disembarks to retrievehis former asset.

Sleuthing outside the Imperial hideaway, Mando spots the egg bassinet and the child’s tinyrobes in the dumpster. Despite being unable to see his face, we can feel the anger, regret, anddevastation rushing over him. He moves to higher ground, staking out the hideout with a thermalspyglass and listening device and learning The Client and Pershing are up to no good... obviously.Baby Yoda is still alive, but not for long if the Client has his way.

Even though he caused this situation by handing Baby Yoda over to the bad guys, Mando goesfull Liam Neeson in Taken. He returns to the hideout and sets off a diversion that buys him timeto blow up a back wall to the lair. Upon gaining entrance, he kills every stormtrooper in his wakeuntil he finds Pershing running tests on the child. While Pershing cowers, Mando steals BabyYoda and continues to battle stormtroopers as he searches for an exit. Wildly outnumbered, thisgives Mando the opportunity to demonstrate some of his stellar weapons — including Chekhov’swhistling birds, which are essentially tiny missiles. Having activated them while surrounded bystormtroopers, Mando is able to escape with Baby Yoda.

However, over at the tavern, fobs have begun beeping and Greef Carga knows exactly whatthis means — and it’s not good for Mando. As the bounty hunter attempts to make his wayback to the Razor Crest with Baby Yoda, he’s soon surrounded by the entire guild. Greef, at thehead, demands Mando put the asset in the adjacent speeder if he wants to live, adding that he’sMando’s only hope. But the bounty hunter isn’t buying any of Greef’s ”only hope” nonsense andseeks refuge on the speeder as a gunfight ensues.

Mando successfully obliterates several of the attacking bounty hunters, but when Greef takesout the droid driving the speedster, they start closing in and Mando’s gadgets falter. As thingsbegin to look very bad for our titular hero, Baby Yoda adorably coos at him and all is immediatelywell. Just kidding, a group of Mandalorians — including the one Mando clashed with earlier —arrive on jetpacks, holding off the bounty hunter guild so Mando and the child can safely flee.

Greef, meanwhile, sneaks away, confronting Mando at gunpoint on the boarding ramp of theRazor Crest. The guild leader laments that he didn’t want it to come to this, citing Mando’sbroken code. But the bounty hunter’s acts quickly, pushing a button that emits an orange mistinto the Razor Crest, obscuring Greef’s visibility long enough to shoot him off the boarding rampand take off in the ship.

Don’t worry, this isn’t the last of Carl Weathers. The Beskar bricks in his chest pocket savedGreef Carga from certain death. But it’s safe to say he’s not thrilled with his formerly prizedbounty hunter.

The Mandalorian jetpacker briefly catches up with the Razor Crest and salutes his brethren, indicating their mission complete. In the ship, Baby Yoda reaches up, once more, for the circularlever head and because he’s grown substantially as a guardian over the last 30 minutes, Mandohands it over as the ship takes off into the atmosphere.

Summary: The Mandalorian teams up with an ex-soldier to protect a village fromraiders.

The episode opens on a small village onan Earth-like planet. As villagers millabout, fishing in a series of small ponds, they’re attacked, seemingly not for thefirst time, by Klatoonians. A mother runsto her young daughter and they hidein the river, covered by a basket asthey watch their attackers ransack theirhome.

On the Razer Crest, Mando is learn-ing how difficult toddlers can be as BabyYoda — who definitely has toddler ten-dencies — presses every button in sighton the dash, to the bounty hunter’s cha-grin. Aware of the certain danger they’re

in, Mando plots their next move. Seeking to lay low for a little while, he ops for the remote Sor-gan, the planet from the cold open. Upon arrival, Mando attempts a solo investigation of theirsurroundings but the word ”stay” means nothing to Baby Yoda, and the two soon enter a tavern.

While getting his young charge situated, Mando spots Cara Dune, who disappears soon after.Mando briefly abandons the child to follow her in yet another questionable parenting decision. Two quickly trade several blows before being interrupted by Baby Yoda, who still hasn’t grasped”stay,” hilariously slurping on soup. Back at the tavern, she reveals she was a former ShockTrooper and mercenary during the war who assumed Mando had a fob on her. Both looking tokeep a low profile, they leave things cordial but as Sorgan isn’t big enough for two deadly loners— and Cara was there first — Mando (and the kid) need to find another planet seek refuge in.

However, before Mando can depart for a new haven, two villagers from the cold open, askingfor help defending their village from Klatoonians and offering all the money they have. Mandohas no interest in hearing them out until he learns of their very remote locale — which just sohappens to be what he and new surrogate son are looking for.

Taking their money, Mando recruits Cara for the mission. Upon arrival at the small village, agroup of children immediately fawn over Baby Yoda and... same. The woman from the cold open,Omera, who seems to be a village leader, helps Mando get settled in the barn while her daughter,Winta, and Baby Yoda immediately hit it off.

Omera, clearly taken with the mysterious bounty hunter, inquires about his helmet. Some-what unusual for the guarded bounty hunter, Mando casually opens up, telling her he hasn’t

taken his helmet off in front of another person since he was a kid. It also appears he isn’t anative Mandalorian as he shares he was taken in by Mandalorians after his parents were killed.

While doing recon in the nearby forest, Mando and Cara spot the infamous track of an AT-ST, the deadly walker historically used by Imperial forces. This isn’t good for the villagers andMando tells them as much, announcing the ”bad news” that they have to relocate. However, the villagers are insistent on wanting to fight the Klatoonians for their home alongside Mandoand Cara. Relenting, the pair train the villagers how to fight and create protections around theirhome. Naturally, Omera reveals herself to be a remarkable shot. Having thoroughly trained andprepared the village for battle, Mando and Cara ambush the Klatoonians at their camp, attackingthem and blowing up their supply tent, activating the AT-ST. They lead the deadly walker backto the village, where the villagers wait at the ready. The children (including Baby Yoda) are safelytucked away from the battleground.

The plan hinges on the AT-ST falling into the moat they’ve dug. However the AT-ST doesn’tfall for their plan and the fight ensues, the villagers and their hired guns against the Klatooniansand their AT-ST. At the bank of the moat, the AT-ST is showing no signs of succumbing to theirplan, prompting Cara use herself as bait and lure it into the moat. After an intense one on onewith the deadly machinery, Cara is able to shoot the AT-ST into the water, where Mando blowsit up. Their powerful weapon eliminated, the Klatoonians hastily retreat.

In the aftermath of the battle, the villagers and their guests have settled nicely. Baby Yodalearns that frogs are friends, not food — courtesy of the village children. While Omera remarksat how well Baby Yoda is fitting in in the village, it seems the fresh air is also doing Mandoquite well. Now that he has quasi-friends, the bounty hunter is opening up even more abouthis helmet situation. When Cara inquires what would happen if Mando removed his helmet, thebounty hunter reveals that once he takes his helmet off, he can’t ever put it back on.

While his simple explanation clearly contains a storied, emotional history for the bountyhunter, Cara completely misses it. She responds, ”That’s it? So you can slip off the helmet andsettle down with that beautiful young widow and raise your kid sitting here sipping spotchka?”

You can’t see his exact expression because, you know, the helmet, but Mando shoots his newBFF a very sour look before hastily changing the subject. He remarks that word of the battle willsurely spread meaning it’s time for him to move on — alone. Mando intimates that Baby Yodais better off in the village, cared for by the loving community, than in a life on the road with abounty hunter. Plus, he’s safe now.

Except that is not the case at all, as a cloaked figure with a beeping fob walks through theforest of Sorgan, inching towards the remote village.

While Mando prepares to break Omera’s heart, she reveals that the community (and her)want him to stay, and intimately goes to remove his helmet. However, Mando tells her that whileBaby Yoda belongs in the village, he doesn’t. Their lamentable non-breakup is interrupted by acommotion on the edge of the forest, where Cara killed the cloaked bounty hunter during theirattempt to assassinate Baby Yoda.

Mando picks up the hunter’s fob and realizes the bounty hunters now know where Baby Yodais. The adorable little guy is no longer safe in the village. As Winta and Baby Yoda share a tearfulgoodbye, Mando and Omera bid a brief, stoic farewell, silently mourning what could have been.Having enjoyed their dalliance with a quiet, normal life — and just a touch of danger — Mandoand Baby Yoda are officially back on the road.

Summary: The Mandalorian helps a rookie bounty hunter who is in over his head.

Every bounty hunter in the galaxy seemsto have the Baby Yoda fob and they’re allafter Mando and his charge. One man-ages to corner them in space, viciouslytrying to take the pair down. However,he makes the mistake of using Mando’stagline — ”I can bring you in warm, orI can bring you in cold” — which meanshe’s gotta go, stat. After some quick ma-neuvering with the Razer Crest, Mando’s

able to blast the opposing ship up, but having sustained heavy damage to his own ship, thebounty hunter is forced to land on the nearby planet of Tatooine — yep, that Tatooine — forrepairs.

In desperate need of repair, Mando lands the Razer Crest at a repair shop and almost imme-diately comes to blows with the mechanic, Peli Motto, after her pit droids get a little too close tothe ship. After the testy exchange, in which Mando is painfully obvious about having somethingsecret inside the ship, the bounty hunter takes off.

As Mando hasn’t found adequate childcare since leaving Winta on Sorgan, he tucks the sleep-ing Baby Yoda safely inside the ship. However, the child has repeatedly demonstrated an inabilityto stay put — and this time is no different. Baby Yoda waddles out of the ship, interrupting Peliand the pit droids’ game of space poker. The shocked mechanic decides to keep an eye on BabyYoda while Mando’s away, planning to double Mando’s bill with an added babysitting fee. Are hermethods a little dubious? Yes, but at least someone is finally looking out for Baby Yoda.

Meanwhile, Mando heads off in search of work — non-Guild, obviously — at the now-emptyMos Eisley Cantina, where the droid behind the bar tells him there’s no bounty work on Tatooine. However, another bounty hunter, Toro Callican, calls Mando over, offering him a job. He revealsa puck containing a bounty on Fennec Shand, an elite mercenary. Mando is clearly aware of herreputation, flatly rejecting the proposal. Toro’s swaggering facade fades quickly and he revealsthe Fennec Shand bounty is his first and is his key to getting into the Guild. As he only needsthe credit, he offers Mando all of the reward money — and the bounty hunter, with a massivemechanic bill on the way, accepts.

Back at the ship, Mando panics when Baby Yoda isn’t in his hiding spot. Confronting thebounty hunter, Peli confronts Mando with some hard truths about his sub-par parenting skills.Mando seems somewhat grateful for her help with the repairs — which she is doing sans-droid,his per request — and babysitting before taking off with Toro.[/caption]

While Toro clearly fashions himself to be something of a swashbuckling hero, it doesn’t takeMando long to see how much of a foolish, green bounty hunter he actually is. Mando quickly

takes charge, leading passage the negotiations with Tuskan Raiders and coordinating the planto take on Fennec, who ambushes them as Mando investigates a dead hunter still attached tohis dewback. The pair decide to attack at sundown, as the mercenary will be waiting for them tomake the first move.

While Mando rests in anticipation, Toro keeps watch — also practicing drawing his blaster, channeling his inner (space) western movie star. After sundown, the pair set their plan in motion, taking off on their speedsters towards Fennec, racing as fast as they can and using flare blastersto disrupt visibility. One of the flares disengages poorly and Fennec shoots Mando off his speeder. She fires a second shot straight at his chest but his Beskar armor prevents certain death. Beforeshe can fire her killshot at the him, Toro appears behind her, ready for a fight. Unfortunately, the young bounty hunter is no match for the experienced mercenary and she easily disarms himand they engage in combat. As she’s about to kill him, Mando swoops in and Fennec surrenders.

While Mando seeks to keep watch over their captive while Toro retrieves the dewback, Tororefuses — this is technically his mission. Relenting, Mando leaves the pair and Fennec immedi-ately attempts to talk her way to freedom. First, she goads the young hunter, suggesting Mando’sthe one actually calling the shots, which tricks him into admitting that he needs her capture tobecome a member of the Guild. Sensing an opening, she tells him he has something valuable inhis grasp — he just doesn’t know it yet. She regales the events from Nevarro — a.k.a. Mando’sbounty hunter shootout — and claims if he turns in Mando, he’ll be a legend. She offers herassistance in taking Mando down but instead of uncuffing her, Toro shoots her, surmising she’ddo the same to him if he’d freed her.

Mando returns on the dewback to found Fennec’s body. Realizing Toro has double-crossedhim, the bounty hunter heads to the mechanic shop where Toro is holding Peli and Baby Yodahostage. Mando appears to surrender but fires the last flare, distracting Toro long enough toretrieve his blaster and kill the foolish young bounty hunter. Mando steals Toro’s credits andgives them to Peli as payment for her services, interrupting her adorable comforting of BabyYoda. It seems this is the last we’ll be seeing of Sedaris in Star Wars but at the very least, wehope Mando’s going to be a tiny bit more careful with his young charge from now on — especiallygiven the number of people after them.

While Mando and Baby Yoda head back into the galaxy, back in the Tatooine desert, footstepsapproach Fennec’s body.

Summary: The Mandalorian joins a crew of mercenaries on a dangerous mission.

Still on the run, Mando makes contactwith Ran, an old acquaintance prior tohis Guild days. Ran asks about whathappened with the Guild but relentswhen Mando cites the ”no questions” pol-icy these rogue mercenaries abide by.It seems Mando’s old contact operatesstrictly off the books but has a job for thebeleaguered bounty hunter. He’s neitherDom Toretto, Nick Fury, nor Woody Har-

relson’s character in Solo, but he’s putting together a crew. Their mission: spring an associateout of captivity. Ran already has most of the team in place, he just needs Mando and, moreimportantly, the Razor Crest — which Mando is none too happy about.

He introduces Mando to the rest of the crew: Mayfeld, a former Imperial sharpshooter andmission lead; Burg, the Devaronian serving as the muscle; Q9-0, a droid called Zero; and Xi’an,a flirty, volatile Twi’lek and former associate of Mando’s.

While checking out the Crest, Zero stumbles across a jumbled old hologram message fromGreef. Meanwhile, Mando learns a bit more about the mission, namely that the captive is on aNew Republic prison ship — he’s not a hostage, he was arrested. Already disappointed in themission, it gets a lot worse when Mando’s told he’s not piloting the mission, the droid is. Rantells Mando he’s needed as a shooter. Mando, who is famously wary of droids due to his verytraumatic experience as a kid, is wildly incensed.

On the ship, things shift from tense to contentious very quickly when Mando finds Burg goingthrough his cache of weapons. Mayfeld inquires as to whether Mando actually possesses thefamous Mandalorian fighting skill before asking about his helmet — joking that he’s actuallya Gungan underneath, which is a tough dig for Jar Jar Binks. Burg makes a move to take offMando’s helmet and the two scuffle, accidentally exposing Baby Yoda in his secret compartment.Mando tries to play Baby Yoda off as a pet but is alarmed when Mayfeld makes a comment aboutkeeping Baby Yoda for a pet himself. Luckily, and without warning, Zero lands the ship andMayfeld loses his grasp on Baby Yoda, allowing Mando to secure him back in his safe hideaway.

With Zero leading communications, the ragtag quartet embark on their mission, heading to-wards the prison ship’s mission control. They don’t get far before Burg shoots a small droid, alerting a team of armed droids towards the mercenary group, which Mando fights off as the restof his stunned team watches.

Despite being told the ship was exclusively guarded by droids, they run into a nervous NewRepublic soldier, who weakly commands them to put down their blasters. Panicked, he pulls

out a tracking beacon — which would alert the New Republic fleet of some sort of distress —intensifying the situation. Mando tries to calm the situation but makes things worse when hetells the soldier they’ll let him live if he lets them go on with their mission. Mayfeld directlyrefutes Mando’s claim and soon blasters are being pointed in all directions. Xi’an takes thingsinto her own hands, killing the officer with one of her knives. Unfortunately, before he died, thethe soldier activated the distress signal, giving the team 20 minutes to complete their mission.

The prisoner is revealed to be Qin, Xi’an’s brother and another of Mando’s former associates, who Mando had previously left behind on a mission. But it seems there was a more sinisterintent behind Mando’s inclusion in this rescue mission as the bounty hunter is double-crossedby his team and locked in Qin’s cell.

Back in the Razor Crest, Zero unscrambles Greef’s message regarding the asset. Minutes later,Baby Yoda, having emerged from his hiding spot, pops into the ship’s cockpit, startling the droid, who reaches for a blaster. But when he turns to aim, the little green child has disappeared.

Naturally, it doesn’t take long for Mando to break out of his cell and go after his traitorousteam. Having returned to mission control, he severs the power, cutting all ties with Zero andforcing the mercenary group to split up. First, Mando encounters Burg, who appears to have theupper hand before the bounty hunter uses the very heavy doors to incapacitate the Devaronian.Next, he goes after Xi’an, who attacks with her knives but is no match for the famed fighter. Then he goes for Mayfeld, whose paranoia has only increased amidst the eeriness of the ship—lights flashing and doors opening. Finally, there’s Qin, who Mando confronts as he’s about toclimb back into the Razor Crest. The former captive begs for his life, giving the ol’ spiel aboutMandalorians and honor, also promising an increase on Mando’s payment.

Having searched the entire ship, Zero finally encounters Baby Yoda back in his hiding spot. Asthe droid raises a blaster, it appears the little tyke is attempting to use the force to save himself. But Mando arrives in time and takes out the droid.

Sans his team, Mando returns from his mission, turning Qin over to Ran. However, it appearsthe plans to double-cross Mando aren’t through as after the Razor Crest takes off, Ran immedi-ately gives the order to kill his former associate. Luckily, Mando always has a contingency plan.Assuming this would be the case, the bounty hunter planted the activated distress beacon inQin’s pocket and the Razor Crest passes a trio of X-wings — piloted by episode director Rick Fa-muyiwa, series executive producer Dave Filoni, and episode 6 director Deborah Chow — closingin on Ran’s base ship. Back on the prison ship, we learn that Mando spared the lives of the trioof mercenaries, locking them up in a cell and surely saving them from a better fate than Ran andQin.

Summary: An old rival extends an invitation for The Mandalorian to make peace.

In the Razor Crest, while Baby Yodasleeps and Mando plans his next move, the bounty hunter gets a hologram mes-sage from his old frenemy Greef Karga. The Guild leader reveals that in the wakeof Mando’s perceived theft, the Clientand his Empirical allies have taken overNevarro. The Guild and Mando now sharean enemy. While Greef and the Guildcan’t take the Client out, he’s hopingMando can — for a hefty reward. He pro-poses Mando returns to Nevarro where

they bait the Client with Baby Yoda and kill him, both sides walking away happy.Mando seems to consider this proposal — but not without his own team providing protection.

They find Cara Dune still on Sorgan, fighting in the tavern like a member of the UFC of the outerrim. Mando walks her through Greef’s plan and offers her a job; he needs help protecting hisyoung charge. She accepts, but having been filled in on Mando and Greef’s tense history, shedoesn’t understand why he’s accepting the mission at all, considering the likelihood they’ll bedouble-crossed. Mando admits he feels backed into it, realizing a target will be on Baby Yoda’sback as long as the Client is alive — something, the little greenling just happens to overhear. While Mando shares his devotion to keeping Baby Yoda alive with Cara, the kid takes control ofthe ship... which, obviously, goes haywire. This little stunt is the jolt they need to realize theirteam requires another member.

They head for Arvala-7 to recruit Kuiil. The Ugnaught examines the child, noting how littlehe’s grown since their last meeting. Having worked in gene farms, Kuiil may not know BabyYoda’s species but he knows the child hasn’t been engineered because he’s too evolved and too...ugly. The conversation soon moves to talk of war, in which Cara and Kuiil, an indentured servantto the Empire, fought on opposing sides. However, their conversation is interrupted by the arrivalof a newly reprogrammed IG-11 offering tea. While Mando becomes very protective of Baby Yoda,Kuiil tells him there’s nothing to worry about. The Ugnaught describes his surveying of Mando’swreckage, where he found the lifeless IG-11 and worked to repair and rehabilitate the droid.

Mando offers the reluctant Ugnaught a job, who, in turn, offers the droid. Mando refuses tohave anything to do with the droid, prompting Kuiil to offer some words of wisdom about droidsin how they’re neither inherently good nor bad, rather the neutral imprint on their programmer.Kuiil agrees to help, but only with assistance from the droid — and a trio of blurrgs. Havinglargely known a life of servitude, the Ugnaught also refuses payment, relishing in his freedom tochoose to protect the child.

With the tram in place on the Razor Crest heading to Nevarro, Cara and Mando arm wrestle,a game interrupted when Baby Yoda uses the force to try to choke Cara. Things become testy

as Cara is not pleased with the child for trying to kill — or at the very least, harm — her. Whilenone of them are familiar with the Force, Kuiil has heard rumors of the powers, prompting Carato make a snide comment of his Empirical fighting during the war.

Arriving on Nevarro, the trio meet Greef and his own trio of guild hunters in a remote location, planning to camp out before moving into town at first light. Over a campfire, they discuss theplan once more. Greef makes a comment on their fool-proof plan before being slashed by a pair ofmassive bat-like creatures. Mando, Greef, and their respective allies fight back, but the creaturesare able to subdue two blurrgs and make an attack on Mando before they’re driven away. Greegis badly injured in the attack, the poison from his wounds spreading more quickly than Caracan stop it. Without the necessary supplies to save Greef, they start thinking of a back-up planbefore Baby Yoda intervenes, using the Force to heal the Guild leader.

The next morning, as they head into town, a wary Cara and Mando are on high alert, readyfor betrayal. But before the guild hunters can take the pair out, Greef kills them both and admitshe had planned to betray Mando and take the child. Naturally, as Baby Yoda just saved his life,Greef had a change of heart. While Cara wants to kill Greef for his deception, Mando cedes thatthey need him alive to take down the Client.

However, now Mando will be used as bait. Refusing to let him go alone, Cara decides to accom-pany Greef and Mando as they confront the Client. Per Mando’s plan, Kuiil and Baby Yoda areset to return to the Crest and seal themselves inside, activating any and all security protocols tomake the ship impenetrable. Meanwhile, Baby Yoda’s new, protected egg will accompany Mandoand company to meet the Client, giving the impression the child is with them.

They arrive in town, now heavily guarded by stormtroopers, and meet the Client at the tavernonce frequented by the Guild. The Client laments Mando’s indiscretion making their supposedlyeasy transaction more difficult — much like the Empire’s occupation (and destruction) of Man-dalore — launching into a tangent about how everything the Empire touches becomes better. He then demands to see the child, insisting despite Greef’s hesitation. But before they open theegg, he gets a hologram call from Moff Gideon, who implies the child isn’t with them. Mando,Cara, and Greef take this as their cue and start firing on all cylinders, taking out the Client andthe forces in the tavern. But one look outside reveals they’re surrounded by a squad of shadowtroopers and legions of stormtroopers ready to attack.

Mando makes a plea to Kuiil to get the kid out of Nevarro as he, Cara, and Greef are out-numbered. Unfortunately, their communications link is intercepted by a pair of stormtrooperson speeders, who overhear the message and take off after the Ugnaught. The troopers are joinedby the very menacing Moff Gideon, who tells the trapped rebels that they don’t understand whatthey have in their possession and the lengths he’ll go to retrieve it. While Kuiil attempts to raceback to the Crest in time, he and the Blurrg are no match for the speeders. As Mando desperatelypleads for the Ugnaught to respond, we discover the stormtroopers have killed the Ugnaught andhis ride, kidnapping the child.
