Just a reminder that a new scoring scale came into effect in the 2020 season. Synergy Dance hasn’t adjusted the scor-ing scale in the last decade, but since that time we have increased in size by over 25,000 dancers and thousands of performances.

The 2020 adjustments to the rubric scale for scoring were put in place to ensure a balanced curve and distribution. New scaling continues to reflect the demographic of a province-wide standard; as talent in the province increases, a need for adjustments to the scale has been required to reflect that development. Our judges complete mandatory online train-ing, which provides the platform for a province-wide standard of excellence and expectation.

The scale has been adjusted, for example diamond was pre-viously 92.55 and in 2020 it is now required to obtain a score of 94.00 to reach a diamond designation. As scoring slides on the new rubrics, there are expected increases to the fre-quency of high silver awards and decreases to the frequency of diamond awards respectively.

Sandra successfully juggled a busy schedule of teacher, dance studio owner, choreogra-pher, artistic director, producer and adjudi-cator for 48 + years. She spent many years training and has taught all types and styles of dance. She got an early start to her training in the Edmonton area and continued on to study in Toronto, New York, Los Angeles, Lon-don, and Las Vegas with many of the world’s most reputable and inspiring teachers.

Sandra has established herself as a promi-nent teacher and choreographer not only here in Canada, but in the USA, Europe, Asia and New Zealand. She is a much sought after adjudicator and is presently devoted to inspiring our next generations of dancers.

Sandra freelances as a choreographer and was the artistic director of the international per-forming group Edmonton Dance Excel for over 15 years. This group of young aspiring dancers, actors and singers is a not-for-profit performing Dance Troupe. Since it’s conception in 1994, Sandra and Edmonton Dance Excel traveled and performed all over the world.

Sandra has had the pleasure of training hundreds and hundreds of students over the past 50 years, many of whom are now work-ing as professional dancers and directors, actor/singers, in ballet, contemporary, tap or jazz dance companies, on cruise ships, for Disney, in Las Vegas, with Cirque del Soleil, and at the various resorts and organizations and tour companies around the world. Her love of dance has been instilled and gifted to her students, many of whom are now profes-sional teachers and studio owners at various schools and postsecondary institutions throughout Canada and the U.S.

Megan has been teaching for over 20 years. She holds her Canadian Dance Teacher’s Association Stage Division Full Member – Ontario Division (Stage Division); she is an accredited Acrobatics Arts teach-er; and is a well-respected dance festival and competition adjudicator and a member of the Professional Adjudicators Alliance.

In Saskatchewan, she was the Director of the Regina Musical Theatre Studio, running both the recreational, examina-tion and competitive dance and musical theatre programs. Megan was also the Director and choreographer for a youth performance company and she also spent over 12 years as the choreographer and assistant to the Artistic Director of a touring performance company.

In 2009 Megan was the Rehearsal Director and her students were selected as the children’s chorus of the Touring Production of The Wizard of Oz and in 2012 she had the opportunity to choreograph and assist during the CBC’s Canadian Country Music Awards. She was also selected to choreo-graph for Johnny Reid’s performance at the Labor Day Classic, as well as co-direct and Choreograph the Cheer Team for the Sas-katchewan Roughriders Season in 2007.

Now living in London, Ontario Megan has had the opportunity to work professionally as a choreographer at The Grand Theatre (Legally Blonde, Ring of Fire, Addams Family), Drayton Entertainment (Annie) as well as choreograph several produc-tions for Original Kids Theatre Company. Currently Megan is on faculty at Fanshawe College teaching movement in the Theatre Arts Program, as well as a choreographer and dance instructor at St. Mary’s Choir and Orchestra School in London, Ontario.

3Shaylin Williams is an established dancer, in-structor, choreographer and adjudicator who has been involved in the dance industry for over 15 years. She is an incredibly versatile and well-rounded performer who specializes in a wide variety of dance styles, winning many prestigious awards as a competitor and choreographer.

Shaylin travels across Canada adjudicating numerous dance competitions and festivals every year and continues to teach master classes and workshops across the GTA. She is privileged to have trained with the Na-tional Ballet of Canada and the Quinte Ballet School throughout her training. Shaylin is a graduate from Ryerson University’s Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree program with Honours in Performance Dance.

Most recently, Shaylin received the Kent Farndale Bursary for the Arts award for her continuous contribution to the arts within her community. She is a member of the Profes-sional Adjudicators Alliance (PAA) and has extensive training in the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD), Acrobatic Arts, American Ballet Theatre (ABT) curriculum, and is a cer-tified ADAPT instructor. Shaylin is currently the Captain of the Raptors 905 Sauga City Dancers based in Mississauga.

Can’t find your diamond dance routine on Youtube?

Not all routines are posted, here are the reasons you may not be able to find it.

1. Not all studios want their videos posted into the Youtube Hall of Fame. If the studio has requested that we do not post their videos, you will not find it in the archive.

2. We do not own Youtube and we cannot control songs/vid-eos that may be taken down due to copyright infringement placed on the song by the owner of the content which is the musician/composer. If the song for the routine is flagged for copyright, the video is often deleted. In some cases the video is muted, and in other cases it is blocked from being playable on cellphones and mobile devices or tablets.

Don’t forget, we only post ONE diamond video per soloist! Videos are loaded in random order over the course of the season based on project workflow. Not all videos are posted to our Facebook page to reduce the “over posting” there, be sure to follow us on Youtube for all the great video content!
