Equipping today’s Students to be tomorrow’s Leaders

“Leaders are made, not born”. NCA cultivates a harvest of future leaders; in engineering, math, government, medicine, law, music, theology, sports. It starts in Kindergarten, building a foundation of extraordinary potential and possibilities and continues throughout the next eight years of their education at NCA. Our foundation launches students to thrive and excel! We strive to prepare our students not merely to be ‘on par’ with their high school and college peers but to be AHEAD of their peers academically, spiritually and socially. Our vision for our students cultivates a sense of urgency: maximizing every opportunity to cultivate student potential! This requires funding that goes beyond tuition dollars. Tuition provides the basics. Affordable tuition compared to other schools with no federal or state funding is our goal. Therefore, generous donations and wise use of those funds undergird superior education. Without your abundant donations, we cannot provide the ‘value added’ education that sets us apart as a school. In proceeding years generous donors launched the K-8 engineering program, built the performing arts center, purchased new music and art curriculum, doubled the library, expanded the playground, and funded technology. Please continue this tradition and give generously to help all students thrive and excel as tomorrows leaders. Please give to help set our students apart from their peers- academically, spiritually, socially and emotionally.

This issue of The Thrive Report

tells the stories of young lives

transformed — because YOUR

generosity made it all possible.

This school year marks a milestone in Northshore’s history – celebrating 20 years. NCA enters into the future in much the same way as our students graduate, as leaders and ahead of our peers. We pride ourselves on graduates who are Thriving and Exceling being spiritually grounded, academically solid, socially adept, and emotionally strong.

To ensure a sustainable future, Northshore launches the Thrive Navigator Annual Fund. A key piece of Northshore’s operating budget is achieved through generous giving at the Auction, Walk-a-thon and our Annual Fund. We are asking for the support of our families and friends.

We believe we are a united family, prayerfully working together, our goal is that each family will participate in giving to the Annual Fund. While the dollar amount will vary based on family circumstances, our goal is 100% participation through the Thrive Navigator Fund.

Karli began 1st grade in

public school, her

parents noticed she was

struggling more than she

should. She was highly

driven even from a young

age working hard to

compensate and keep up

with classmates.

In 2nd grade, Karli’s

reading and spelling

struggles increased. The

public school evaluated

but results were not “low”

enough for any sort of

intervention. Karli’s self-

confidence plummeted –

she compared herself to

the other students and

felt inadequate. She

continued to struggle

while working hard all

throughout elementary

school.

A family friend suggested

they enroll at Northshore

Christian Academy for

middle school. The

beginning of NCA middle

school, her teacher

recognized the signs of a

non-traditional type

dyslexia and suggested

Carrie Davis has been

involved at NCA since

the second year

Northshore existed in

1996! Her First /

Second grade split

class of students at

NCA was her first

position out of college.

The first classrooms

were at the “built-out”

warehouse on 80th

Street. We walked

students through

warehouse loading

docks to get to some

of the classrooms.

In the early days, our

facility may have

looked different and

seemed a little tempo-

rary but the goals of

the organization and

the academic out-

comes for students

were always the

same: Excellence.

“God brought me to

NCA to begin my

teaching career and to

grow and stretch me

as a professional and

to grow and stretch

my own personal

faith.”

“NCA students arrive at Archbishop Murphy High School prepared for our rigorous high school curriculum. We measure their success by virtue of their Impressive GPA

(NCA graduates are currently earning an average 3.7 GPA at Archbishop Murphy)

PSAT scores (NCA alum Sam Meyers is a 2015 National Merit Semi-Finalist)

Balanced with their role in our school.

NCA alumni serve the AMHS community as class officers, club pres-idents, retreat leaders, student-athletes, per-forming artists, and servant leaders.

Not only do our NCA alumni fulfill their ser-vice hours each year, they are active leaders in our Campus Ministry and Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) pro-grams.

On behalf of our entire school family, I would like to thank the Northshore Christian Academy for blessing our community with these amazing young men and women.”

further diagnostic

evaluation. She was

tested through the Thrive

Program and found to

have a form of dyslexia

not in the usual dyslexia

spectrum. Thrive tutors

began working with Karli

– they went back to

basics using a multi-

sensory approach. Inten-

sive tutoring at NCA gave

her the tools to master

reading strategies.

Having a “diagnosis” was

liberating for Karli, as a

person and student,

there was a cause for her

academic difficulties.

Karli had a reason to

fight! Successful

achievement in school

accelerated once she

acquired the help from

Thrive Program.

In fact, Karli graduated

from high school with

high academic honors

and has been awarded

the Superintendents

Award for Everett Public

Schools. The award

comes with a full schol-

arship to Central Wash-

ington University where

she is a freshman.

Full credit goes to

supporters of

Northshore who help

make Thrive possible.

The process allowed

her to be successful

without feeling like a

failure. Thrive prepared

her to overcome life’s

challenges.

Karli is Thriving

and Exceling!

“I credit my

success to the

foundation I

received at

Northshore”

- Karli

Your generous donations are at work for ALL students!

We continue to strengthen our literacy

program - strong skills are a must! Last

year’s Thrive donations added new

resources that have helped us meet our

literacy standards. New student

materials and resources – both print and

digital - provide appropriately complex

texts for students. Teacher professional

resources - centered on research-based

instructional strategies and implementa-

tion of new curriculum to maximize

student learning

Our THRIVE Specialized Tutoring team

has grown to four tutors. Thanks to

Thrive donations, some of our tutors

received training on multi-sensory

teaching and learning strategies over

the summer. Each tutor has a calling

to help NCA students thrive in their

learning journey, supporting them with

important learning strategies, but they

also have a relentless desire to share

God’s love and encouragement with

each child.

School counseling is a valuable com-

ponent to helping all NCA students

thrive. September is a critical transition

time – new school, new grade, or a

new division at NCA. Sometimes, stu-

dents need support navigating this

change. School counselors have

paved the way, helping students build

friendships and new relationships so all

NCA all students can feel welcome
