Selected Action Steps: Options for Aligning and Incorporating Equity Scorecard Efforts

Foster timely degree completion The Evidence Team will soon be looking at UW-SP’s retention data and will identify where students of color are lost or struggle on the path towards degree completion.

Their data-findings will lead to inquiry into day-to-day practices and practical recommendations on how UW-SP can address the achievement gap.

Reduce the achievement gap among all underrepresented groups

Provide comprehensive support services to enhance the quality of experiences for all students

Selected Action Steps: Options for Aligning and Incorporating Equity Scorecard Efforts

Support a culture of continuous improvement through assessment of student learning, programs and services

The Equity Scorecard process provides faculty and professional development in methods of self-assessment. Faculty and staff use data to identify gaps in student outcomes by race/ethnicity and then assess day-to-day practices.

In order to maintain this learning, the Equity Scorecard process of data and self-assessment should be incorporated into existing structures – such as faculty and staff development opportunities.

Support and expand faculty and staff professional development opportunities that focus on teaching and learning

Goal: Cultivate an Inclusive and Ecologically-Responsible World View Among All Constituents

Selected Action Steps: Options for Aligning and Incorporating Equity Scorecard Efforts

Implement appropriate and assessable curricular revision that promotes cultural diversity and inclusivity

The Evidence Team will soon begin looking at course-to-course persistence rates, which opens the door for classroom self-assessment and identifying how classrooms be more inclusive.

Goal: Develop sustainable relationships between the university and its partners – local, state, regional, national, and global

Selected Action Steps: Options for Aligning and Incorporating Equity Scorecard Efforts

Ensure that the university’s intellectual, cultural, and recreational resources and activities enrich the lives of people throughout our community, state, nation, and world

The team has identified that Latino/a and Hispanic students are underrepresented at UWSP compared to the local community and may choose this area as a point for further inquiry to produce practical recommendations.

They’ve also identified transfer as an opportunity for increasing UWSP’s racial and ethnic populations.

Through collaboration and shared governance, the University will establish processes to :

• Measure our progress on achieving our goals

• Evaluate our effectiveness as an institution

• Develop strategies for our continual improvement

• Communicate progress to our varied constituencies

The Equity Scorecard process will produce:

• Specific measures for progress in achieving equity by race/ethnicity

• Measures for evaluating UWSP’s effectiveness in closing the achievement gap

• Strategies for improving and monitoring improvements

• Communication methods for sharing findings, recommendations, and goals.
