appearance too. This is also the last day of the canteen for lunch orders. See below about the P&C funded BBQ lunch!

Canteen

On Friday 14th the canteen will close because all students will be on their end-of-year excursion.

In the last week of school the canteen will operate normally on Monday 17th Dec. Tuesday 18th Dec will be the last day of operation, and will be a special day. The P&C will fund the lunch for all students. Last Monday a note was sent home to each student, asking for each student’s preference. These orders will be delivered to rooms at 1:30pm on the day. Ice blocks will be the only item sold over the counter at 11am. Students need to bring their own food on Wednesday 19th Dec, the last day of school.

Last day for students

Students’ last day of the year is Wednesday 19th Dec. On this day, there are two activities of note. The first is that students will be told who their class teacher for next year will probably be. Students will get the opportunity to be with this teacher for part of the afternoon.

Then, just before the final bell, students will form an arch in Area A and those students and staff who will be leaving for the final time can walk through to say their final farewells.

Last Week’s Quiz

Library Stocktake

During Week 9 the library will be conducting a stocktake. Borrowing for 2018 has now ceased and it is vital that all library books are returned to the library so that they are included in the stocktake. We are currently running a competition to see which class has all of their books returned first and the children in the winning class will receive a prize. Thanks for your assistance.

Karen Meyer— Teacher Librarian.

Kindergarten PRD Christmas Colouring in competition

This week all students in Kindergarten were invited to participate in a PRD Christmas colouring in competition. Colouring in pictures are due back class teachers by 9am Friday morning. The local agent from PRD Real Estate Beresfield, Reece Thompson, will present vouchers to three students on Tuesday the 11th December at our lunch time assembly. Best of luck to all students!

special guests. Our guest speaker was Wendy Fitzgerald, who entertained all of the students with her writing tool box and encouraged all of the children to think about imaginative writing. A big thank you must go to Quarry Mining and Construction for supporting this worthwhile initiative. Due to their generosity each child gets these books to take home and keep in a library bag. As of 2018, and through the generous support of sponsors, donors and funding bodies, the tally stands at nearly 2.5 million books distributed across Australia through the Books in Homes Program!

2019 Swimming Carnival - Monday 4th February

This Friday is the final day for the return of swimming carnival notes for the 2019 swimming carnival. Thank you to those students/parents who have returned their notes already and to those parents who have indicated that they would like to assist on the day. I have only three volunteers at this stage and would love to have at least 10 so that we can time all lanes and have some assistance on the side of the pool for judging or moral support. I know some parents are unable to possibly know if they are available at this stage, but I am also happy for anyone to inform me up until the last day of the school term. Please make sure that forms are completed correctly and that your child CAN swim the nominated distance and stroke so that we are able to run a safe and positive carnival.

House Captains

This afternoon we conducted the elections for House Captains. Successful candidates will be announced at next Thursday’s Presentation Day assembly.

Michael Edwards—Sports Co-ordinator

Not Returning in 2019?

Sporting Schools Basketball

This week is the last week of our Sporting School basketball program. We would like to thank the team from Newcastle Basketball for running the program and working with all of our students. Students have thoroughly enjoyed the program and it has been pleasing to see their skills improve each week. You never know, we may see one of our students become a future “Boomer” or “Opal” and represent Australia in Basketball.

Congratulations to the following students who

received awards at the last assembly.
