ERL Launches Advanced B-PRO 4000
Multi-Busbar Protection System
We are proud to present our latest offering, the B-PRO 4000 Multi-Busbar system which provides protection for any bus bar configuration with 3 differential zones and a check zone. Its scalable architecture ushers in the flexibility of employing the most cost effective hardware combinations, based on the actual number of zones and number of current inputs in the bus system. For example, protection for 23 feeders plus one bus tie breaker can be provided using four B-PRO 4000 relays communicating with each other.
This state-of-art system provides current differential bus protection, circuit breaker failure protection, end fault protection, backup over current protection, independent check zone, open CT and advanced saturation detection for EHV bus-bars. It also provides control, automation, metering, monitoring, fault oscillography, event logging, and dynamic swing recording with advanced communication in a flexible cost effective package.
The highlights of this system are:
Easy to use, intuitive setting and analysis software
Dynamic Bus Replica
Integrated Breaker Fail Protection with single phase initiation, End Zone Protection and Over Current Protection for each input current
Isolator and CB status monitoring and alarming
Delta Phase and Rate of Change of Differential (ROCOD) algorithms provide enhanced security during external faults with heavy CT saturation
Use 1 x B-PRO 4000 relay for every 6 x 3-phase CT inputs configured for the bus differential element
High quality fault recording and event log

ERLPhase Receives Certification for B-PRO 4000
We congratulate ERLPhase
P o w e r Te c h n o l o g i e s o n
receiving the coveted IEC
61850 protocol certification for
its B-PRO 4000 Bus Protection
Relay. This was issued by the
Central Power Research Institute
of India, this independent
assessment is based on the UCA
International Users Group
Device Test Procedures. The IEC
61850 Station Bus protocol (8-
1) is offered as a standard
feature on all 4000 Series
relays and recorders.
The IEC 61850 standard was
deve loped by to ensu re
interoperability of substation
automation devices. Beginning
in 1995, an IEC project group
of about 60 members from
different countries worked in 3
IEC working groups to create a
single protocol which would:
define basic services required
to transfer data in the future,
p romo te in te roperab i l i t y
between vendor sys tems,
standardize on a common
format for data storage, and
define testing requirements for
conformance to the standard.
The New Year brings new cheer! We have received a
large order from RRVPNL for the Supply of 80 nos.
Numerical Bus Bar Protection Schemes for the 220kV
Grid Substation against Tender Specification No.
2948. Our B-PRO Relay has been approved for this
project.We congratulate the team.

Quizzes & Creativity Mark Quality Day Celebrations
Quality Month was celebrated at ERL recently. A daily online
quiz was conducted and winners were announced throughout
the month. Ms. Uma Maheswari, Mr. A. K. Raju,
Mr. Magendiran and Ms. Jamuna were the weekly winners
during the month and Ms. Thamizhselvi was the mega winner
of the month for giving the right answers on all the days. They
were given prizes.
An Audio Visual Quiz was conducted at the Hosur unit on the
special day of 29th November, 2013. The event commenced
with five teams of 4 members each with a homogenous mix of
employees from different functions. The event was
spread across three rounds. The first one was a
multiple choice question and the second a Visual
Connection round. Each team were given random
images, which they had to relate to a quality concept.
This gave us amazing insights into different quality
concepts and the participants displayed amazing skill
and creativity in connecting random and funny
images to the topic. The third round was given in the
form of a crossword puzzle containing terms and
topics related to quality. The participants involved
themselves enthusiastically and came up with
wonderful and creative answers to each question
thrown at them.
Finally the Team consisting of Mr. Selvam (PPB-
Assembly), Mr. Baskar. V (SWG-Engineering), Ms.
Uma Maheswari (SWG-Purchase), Mr.Murali.S (PSB-
Manufacturing) emerged the winners with a healthy
lead in their points.
Mrs. Mathuravani. R, Head-Quality was the judge
and Mr. Buvanesh Kumar. B from HR team was the
quiz master. Mr. Gomathi Srinivasan and Mr. Bharath
Kumar from QA were the official scorer and Time
Keeper.
Mr. Sriram. S. V, Head-SCM and Mr. Sathiyaseelan,
DGM-Operations were the special guests for the
evening. They stressed the importance of such events
that create a vital informal learning environment that
brings the opportunity for knowledge sharing and
personal enhancement. The special guests gave
away the prizes to the participants. Mrs. Mathuravani
delivered the Vote of Thanks.

minutes. His valuable speech provided a complete
overview of Smart Grid Technology. This included
Michel Faradays’s discovery of Electromagnetic
Induct ion in 1831, the f i rs t commercial
development Single phase Alternator in 1896 to
deliver power over a distance of 0.5 Kms, evolution
of power grids in the last 100 years and the advent
of unconventional Generation (Wind, Solar, Tidal
etc) and merging them with the Power Grids.
The other topics dealt with inb-depth were the
paradigm shift with intelligence built in the
protection, measuring & control systems,
the introduction of the concept of smart grid in 2003
and its direction, present day technology to be
incorporated in Smart Grid, remote controlled with
common open protocol using intelligent IEDs, Smart
Meters, Optical CTs, VTs, Process Bus, Merging
